The average play time on WoW is 2 - 3 hours a day of playing, it definetly takes more than that to down raids and hardcore players definetly play more than that
This leads me to believe most players do not slave over endgame, they log on maybe do a couple heroics or craft and then get off
I for one do just this, and i know a alot on my server who do the same, the endgame "QQers" just may be a very vocal minority, WoW has 13 million because its a casual game, the majority of WoW's player base does not even do raiding untill maybe the very end of progression in an Expansion when it has become much more casual for them
I think developers should stop fretting over endgame and just make the leveling process as best as possible, encourage alts and take your time with endgame, no need to rush the content out because 2% of the playerbase whines 24/7

It's not like blizz caters to that 2% anyway. I've known several raiding guild leave WoW for more hardcore stuff.
I haven't found endgame activities in any game that I enjoyed more than what was available while leveling up, so I have to agree endgame is overhyped and more attention should be put toward the leveling/skill-up/whatever part of the game.
In any level-based game, it's likely that a player will spend far more time at level-cap with their main character than they will in leveling that character.
As such, a level-based game must provide an adequate amount of content to keep that maxed character interested in playing the game. That doesn't necessarily mean raiding. Additionally, this is not something that only affects 2% of the player population - it will affect everyone that hits level-cap who is also interested in still playing that character they've maxed out. In short, that means pretty much everybody.
"Endgame" is a critical part of a game's design. Again, that doesn't just mean raiding. If a game doesn't provide max-level characters enough to do at level-cap, it will lose players.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Of course the endgame is overhyped. The endgame is, by definition, what companies give you to do after you've done everything worth doing, in hopes that you won't realize that you ought to cancel your subscription. If there's a lot of real content there, then it is, by definition, not endgame.
this is just me, but i hate leveling, crafting, anything that isn't the endgame raiding. honestly, it kills me that wow's raiding has weekly lockouts. i know that running raids is a small part of an mmorpg, but it's just what i like to do in my games.
For me, leveling is fun, along with exploring, grouping, and questing... BUT, I look forward to the end game raiding more than anything else.. If there's no end game, "cough Vanguard cough" then I will unsub and move on.. I know Vanguard has APW now, but they didn't when I played..
I think for at least half of the old school mmo gamers, we all look forward to end game raiding.. It's really why we endure long hours of grinding to level and gear up.. Were prepairing for the end game and most of us can't wait to jump into the raids and defeat all the content the game has to offer.. It's like playing competitive sports.. For example, I play baseball.. The season just prepares you for the playoffs, "if you make it" and then the championship.. I play for fun, but I also play to WIN.. The season is fun and all, but nothing compares to playing in the playoff's and winning the championship!
Then there's casual no talent sports fans who don't play in a organized league because they have a life and whatever excuses they may give you. So they'll play baseball, basketball, football, tennis, etc once in a while just for exercise and fun..
Well these people are pretty much the same with MMO's.. You have hardcore elite gamers, then you have casual no talent noob gamers.. The noob gamers will complain, whine, and state that end game raiding isnt needed and that the devs should focus on making a great solo and regular group content simply because they don't care about end game raiding, lol. But in reality, they really do care, but just won't admit it because NO hardcore raid guilds will ever want them in their guild simply because they don't play enough.. So, this is also where you get the casual gamers complaining that they shouldn't have to spend hours of their life raiding to get end game epic loot, LOL. This is literally why u now see stupid heroics in WoW,, because of these pew pew no talent casual gamers..

I would submit end game if anything is under rated by rated by most people including the developers themselves. If there is no end game then then you can hardly even can call the game a MMORPG anymore. A game where all you can do is queue to the dungeon finder, run it, and then log off is NOT a MMORPG. That is just another online game you might find on Xbox live. Even if you don't use the end game raids yourself it takes a lot of organization from others to complete the end game. This organization builds up the community and it is this raiding community that makes the MMORPG different then just an online game.
End Game gets hyped in some game ?!-Where lol ?
I really don't think such a thing should exist for an MMORPG... These games should have some depth so you actually look forward to working hard and hitting the lvl gap... it shouldn't be doing 3 dungs and guild wars in your free time :S
I don't know if hyped is the right word but modern MMOs focuses too much on it. The rest of the game is 90% of all the content but they make you run past all that in 2 weeks and force you to grind gear and faction until the next expansion.
Either the endgame should offer a lot more different things or the game should focus more on the leveling up part.
And it is silly that games like Wow have a lot of solocontent but as soon as you hit max level you either have to quit, reroll or start grouping if you prefer sologame. Either make endgame for them as well or cut down the sologame a lot.
I wouldn't say that this is a Wow problem, all modern MMO have it even if Wow might be the worst case.
Yes its over hyped i meet a lot more people and have a lot more fun lvling up raiding is stressful if done with the wrong people and sometimes you dont know what your getting yourself into with end game and usually end game is just another grind that takes long enough for the company to get their next expansion out.
