I'm still enjoying age of conan - why are there so many haters?

I'm currently actively playing Age of Conan.  I love the game play .  I re-subscribed last spring.  I had been playing wow for 4 years and realized it was time to change. (you can search for my earlier post to see why)  So now 10 months later I'm still loving Conan.  I'm playing on Wiccana pve server.  The community is friendly, My guild is a lot of fun and we're raiding T3.

I've found Conan’s quests to be fun and leveling pretty easy.  I’m also enjoying learning my classes which still holds a lot of challenge.  Maybe I’m missing something horrible wrong but I really do find this game fun!  I went back and played a little of the new wow expansion, Its fun enough but seems a little too childish and the community seems very childish.  The whole time I was playing it, I keep on missing some of the features found in Conan.  This made me want to play Conan even more.  Oh well… to each their own.

Are there still haters?  The game has come along way.  It's not a bad game, just fails to convince me why I should play beyond max level like most mmo.

Both AoC and Aion have come such a long ways. Both MMOs are above "good" and are a ton of fun. The issue at hand is both MMOs really burned players at launch, whether it be the company or just the game in itself. Because of that, and this is my opinion, players just don't want to return and would much rather continue to speak negative of the game(s) when they do not play it in its current state. I play Aion. I like AoC but Aion suits me more. There will always be trolls in life, no matter what.  Both MMOs are still safe and secure (especially Aion due to its popularity in Asia) and I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon. Don't worry about what people think because WoW has 12+ million and is always trash talked. You cannot convince a person to stop hating something, it is up to them. I have been tempted to go back to AoC but I like to stick to one MMO.

hmm.  so far its seems the game really only begins when you get to eighty.  I reached eighty 2 months ago on my 1st  character and I've really only started to scratch the surface.   I've been gearing up in T1 thru T3 raids and I really haven't done much in khita yet.

Maybe I’m missing something horrible wrong but I really do find this game fun!

Well even though I too like the game and have the forever free Tortuga part on my rig and play it, I didn't find it long term fun enough to pay a sub (got up to my mid-30's on a toon).

I'll try and answer your question the best that I can.

The first item I left of your quote goes along with what one of the other posted put down.  The game really doesn't start until max level and with the off line leveling it's become even easier to reach that point.  Not everyone wants that.  Now you don't HAVE to us the off line levels but like has been said, the end is the beginning.

    As too the horrible part:

Did you know AoC was actually a Pvp game?  Or was suppose to be.  Hyped, sold and then dropped without telling the populace.  That brings a lot of haters in right there.  I don't think the world Pvp is the way to go, but to just dump Pvp as a focus and make it a PvE game instead without really telling anyone.  Just asking for trouble there.  (And no I'm not a Pvp'er).  Pvp is only now supposely getting some of the love, but considering Funcom just dumped Trotuga's Pvp zones, instead of fixing them really makes me wonder on that point.

Rig demands.  While it's what makes the game so visually beautiful, the way the game utilizes data cuts out a number of players.  I can play DDO, LotRO, PotBS all on high or ultra high but the best I can do with AoC is in a minized window on low and that doesn't even give me good enough FPS to do anything BUT PvE.

Maybe a not so horrible point but the reason I dropped my sub was after tapping out all the Stygian zones I now had to go to the other races zones if I wanted to level.  I loved the whole Egyptian feel and never had an interest in the other races so why would I care to level, nay FORCED to level in their zones.

AoC is fun; mature quest lines, funny quest dialoge, good quests that felt like they had meaning, but the above are why so many have problems with it.  Should they just let the horrible launch drop, forget about the bugginess at the beginning, lack of quests?  Yes because it's not that game anymore.

What they can't let drop is a game that never really did reach it's potential.

Aion has always done very well and always had a solid playerbase.  Warhammer is a lot like AoC, warhammer didn't add anything much since launch and today it has a similar pop to AoC.

The OP loves doing 1 instance over and over with his guild, which is fine..but wow's heroics and raid instances are much harder and better scripted than AoC's so boss mechanics and class mechanics are challenge apeal to more people than, well I don't get your childish critisism as I played AoC and it is no where near mature. I'm not sure but I would imagine there is or will be more raid content in cataclysm then AoC will ever have as every wow expansion has done that so far.

IDK why there would be haters, but a lot of people have been leaving AoC RECENTLY so maybe 1 in 3 or 4  still play that bought the expansion.   Though critisisms are prpetty easy, like you are raving about T3 but that has been out around a year and T4 is bugged and not much to it, with nothing new coming down the pipeline so slow development bores players.

Most of the end game revolves around repeatable quests or doing tradeskill gathering for the best PvP gear, which are both boring and very long compared to other grinds in other games.

I am leveling from 1- 85, 84 now in wow and they revamped 1-60 but wow has always had and cataclysm is no diffrent: way more places to level and quests to do per level.  way more grouping and with dungean finder it is easy to find groups from 15- 85 anywhere. Way more end game content, way more pvp content.  Beter rewards, more challengine content with Heroic instances and a reason to do them for better loot....are like 10 or so now. Faster development so there is already more stuff coming up, beter game mechanics.

Graphics are OK, but the real question is why would anyone play AoC with LOTRO, AION, GW1, GW2, and WoW, and KOTOR Online all soon to be on the market. Those are the games MMO players are playing so why not AoC if the T3 raid instance is good enough to keep a few people subscribed?

im definetely not a hater of this game, i would love to come back to this game infact... its just that now it seems like all servers are more or less empty from all players that once were in there so its boring... thats the reason why im not playing this game anymore.

now, if it was free to play like the other guy already mentioned .. i would come back to play it definetely ... players or not

I don't hate AoC but I do hate leveling in AoC. I do not enjoy solo quest grinds and that makes up the majority of AoC leveling. I used to spend hours each night trying to find a group to run a low or mid level dungeon and every night I was told the same thing....no one groups to level, just grind to 80 where the real game begins.

I disliked playing WoW for many years, but now that I can farm dungeons from lvl 10-85 without the horrible quest grind, I do not mind the journey to max level. If AoC encouraged grouping at every level like WoW does I would gladly play it.

I don't really hate AOC, I just can’t stand to play it because of how the game is.

When I first heard about AOC I was really shocked, but after leaving Trottage the starter city in AOC everything was really out of place for me it no longer looked, or feel like the real Conan world. The Concept Art which I saw on all the Female Armors, and Armor in the Conan game in general was not followed, and you would often see armors that covered everything, and looked the same, plus were quite ugly of course this is just my opinion about AOC, and the reason I left it. Until Funcom actually re designs the entire game puts in better armors, and graphics, and fixes the Direct X 10 problems I am not playing the game period.

I want to see Ripped Cloth Armors, Possibly a system so when a monster hits you X number of times the armor fades off of you until after the battle, or something. What I don’t want to see is a bunch of full covered Robes on mages constantly and all these type of copy and paste things like Level 10 Red Robe, Level 20 Blue Robe.

Seriously Age OF Conan is a rated Mature MMO, and I expect it to be very brutal, and look like one, not a Rated T Game, I also expect there to be Death Blows where I can actually do fun finishing moves on people, such as Cut off Limbs, or something, and Fatalities like Mortal Kombat. Like seriously come on and the reason why I don’t play AOC is quite simple some of the games out there offer these things like Fury Online which was closed down a year or so ago, and Bloodlines Champions offers something Similar to this, and I am sure that down the rode there will be other games that offer this possibly.

There are a lot of 2010 games that have better looking armor, and characters, without all the copy and paste textures.

Saw your post on this on massively. Best find of the new year!!! Someone should get some screen shots before they take it out.

I tried it in game and it came up. Truely nice find.

Yea I tried it too in game earlier works.

I've already expressed feelings on how it should be handled and I have no quarms with it if done right. This point in time this is a positive move.

However, this is just an item shop which is for the Korean game I think, linking to F2P right now may be true but not right away.

     ?????

It does have Fatalities and death blows.  Do you have your 'Mature Content' toggle turned on?   With it on you get lopped off heads, hands plunging into chests and ripping their hearts out etc....

I dont hate AOC, i just dont want to play the game. Everything in this game is good, epecially the combat system that force player to actually follow the 123QE key to make combo. I play aoc because of the unique combo that other mmo can't offer.  I want to rolled a Conqueror but it suck so terrible. Everytime you saw a TOS/POM/Neco/DEmo you will get 1 shot and die. (Funcom !! make Melee server)  I really dont mind get kill in 1:1 when i actually get beat by some soldier/rogue class. But it so annoying when you actually get die from a TOS/POM/Neco/Demo. Okay maybe i'm not lv80, the class might not be balance until at lv80. But it was actually same thing, TOS/POM/Neco/Demo stand and cast dot dot dot.. die. Neco send their pet and kite you and you get the damn lag from their pets (WTF they can send 8 pets?) (even my system at that time Quad6600 2.4ghz, 3GB, 8800GT 512mb - april 2008 system)

I have lv80 conq i dont have the skill to play conq, so i rolled a HOX, then i getting bored and i rolled a Sin. It pretty good on PVE. Pretty much i spend most of my time on level up. (i believed so many people have more than 2 lv80+ toons). Then i rolled a Guardian and doing whitesand pvp and get to pvp3. It was pretty fun atleast it more balance at that level gameplay. I tried move on to Lv21-39 content but the population base(Tyranny server) was VERY LOW, Okay I move out to Lv41-60 content but i felt the game population is low all the time. So i quitted at this point.

I think i would only resub this game only if they make a Melee server. No TOS/DEMO/NECO they are ruined the gameplay.

Finatic did you even play the expansion? Dude, practically everything you posted is wrong.

a.) graphics are superior to anything in MMO market. Period. Don't believe me? Here are the awards the game won.

b.)expansion introduced some very hard dungeons, practically on par with WoW ones. Admitabbly the development is slow, but within max few months new dungeons are being introduced. Even Levi crafting was reasonably hard (T2).

T4 is not bugged anymore. Bosses are down. Might be it never was bugged, it could be that due to AoC being known as easy mode ... most of the best MMO players hasn't tried it since release and believe me now it is hard.

(same goes for khitai dungeons on HM)

c.)Lotro is F2P, GW1 is free, and wow, well WoW is a religion. Good answer for you? AoC is hurting by its reputation from first year but that is about it. Sure, PVPers left, but they were not a large portion of playerbase since start (PVP has been neglected since start, mainly due to mass exodus of PVP players because of broken content while PVE players had T1 and later on T2 and T3 to play with)

AOC have best graphic (atleast it is my style but my other friend said it is too realistic that they prefer AION style more asian) I'm fine with that. There is no such best graphic when everyone's preference is difference.

Combat system in AOC was pretty good. The movement was so smooth and player have actually use combo rather like AIOn you just press your skill and it load up for you. The combat system in AOC might not good for the majority ppl even those call themself hardcore player might found AOC's combo system are TOUGH.

Any proof tier 4 are not bugged anymore and people are clearing them? So far, I only found one German raiding guild beating tier 4 who have had extensive access to these TWO bosses in beta for months, so that's as elitist as it can be. On the Crom server forum the list for guilds that have downed tier 4 (ALL 2 bosses, yay) is still empty, but more and more are getting through tier 3. Even when it comes to PvE AoC is just way too slow to be taken seriously, it takes forever for the developers to release new raid bosses and another eternity to fix the bosses.

Ahh, Age of Conan, I'll most likely remember the folly that is this game even on my deathbed ... Haha, no more PvPing in White Sands Isle *kneeling over from laughter

The game has gone a long way, sadly there's hardly ever a second launch for any MMO.

For now the game still lacks polishing here and there and the UI is still certainly the worst part of it.

If you like it enjoy it, it's a really unique game.

b.)expansion introduced some very hard dungeons, practically on par with WoW ones.

    Hey man.

Well that was exactly what I was talking about. Khitai was supposed to be  challenge for the veterans. But truth be told AoC only shortly after release had elite players playing but they left because game was unfinished. It could be that current content is a bit to hard for average plyers. If I am not mistaken WoW to has bosses that are downed only by a few guilds for months. I mean, finatic  was talking about easy mode that AoC is - in fact, it has probably content tht is harder to beat than WoW one. If this is good or bad ... i don't know.

I far from hate AOC hell I quite enjoy it for me it simply the stupid combo system I play a MMO to chill out having 1-5 buttons to press after each action was a chore.

    Innovative my arse just tedium.

Skill go away fanboi not on your nelly.

Its plain and simply a annoyance and one I wasnt prepared to put up with 4hrs a night no matter how much I was enjoying the journey and visuals.

Said it alpha stage will say it again give people 2 options of play 1 with the system for 100% damage one without that they can use for more casual leveling with 80% damage.

That sounds like it is bugged and just not made right,  I played the bugged T1 encounters at release and back then AoC had more developers and it took over a year of retuning to make them work properly but most the T1 bosses where Xploited in AoC.  The diffrence is WoW/EQ would  release dungeans with 12 + bosses and havemultiple raid instances and the last boss and maybe one other won't work right but those are usually blocked anyway.  The only one I remember in WoW was the last AQ boss and the day he was patched everyone downed it but the head developer said he was a progression block.

WoW or any other raiding game wouldn't last if they released an endgame expansion with only 2 bosses that were so bugged no one could down them without exploits .  They release tons of raid zones with tons of bosses if 1 or 2 are over tuned or just bugged is much diffrent.  Also, the reason it takes so long to down bsses is do to progression....guilds will kill boss A, then they need to learn and kill boss B, then move on to Boss C.  When there are 20-30 bosses it is much LONGER progression than 2 bosses.

You are for most aspects of life right on with your second comment, but if it was ment for some of the individuals in this thread I think "an undiagnosed illness" could be a much more fitting description. No need to mention names but let me just say this, I have played the game 19 months now and I have seen enough forumposts to say that there are like 2 or 3 individuals (and perhaps 1 in particular) that really just show up to post the most Noobish, erronous BS about AoC systems they don't know shit about. I don't know why, but it happens. I think AoC is quite hatefree now :). Sure there are people that left back at launch that still have not been back testing the game on the right premises. These guys naturally still have doubts. But being MMOers even these people eventually will get back for a while and learn that things actually can change for the better. :)
