Question for programming experts about redoing the UI

Just how hard would it be to update DAOC's UI? This is one of the biggest things that I dislike about my few attempts to return to the game.
I am just wondering how hard this is to do, since it would seem like a good step for Mythic to take since there is still strong respect and following for DAOC.

I really truely hope you read this, becouse DAOC has one of the greatest UI's.

You can download TONS of stuff for daoc ui if you look around, healers helper and all kinds of little gadgets.
Also everything in the ui is draggable and you can arrange quickbars and menus as you please. Try youtube some daoc rvr movies, people have all kinds of different setups that help improve their paly style. For instance i have a "toys" bar with all my RA's right below my "figure", and to the left of my figure i have the healers helper squares. Everything else i qbinded and my textboxes are transparent.
You are right the standard ui sucks, but then again i don't think people actually use that one

I gave up trying DAOC after failing to find any way to assign my keybindings as I please. How can this be done, and what addon do I need for this. And how do I install/use these addons?
The very fact that the game does not come with the option of making keybindings as you please, is an obsolete obstacle. If this had been changed, it would definately attract more players.
I took a look at the addons, and I must say: what the heck does they mean and what are they for?? No good screenshots, and barely any explanation. Not all of us are geeks or DAOC fanbois you know.
Edit; if I could make the keys as I have them in WoW, I would definately have a comeback to this game. It has alot of interesting mechanics, but I am unable to cope with the UI. A helpful hand here would be most appreciated.
I assign my toolbars which I put my skills in to be used with:
1 2 3 4 5 6 Q E R T Y F G H > X C V B for primary instant skills
Shift + those above for secondary skills, usually that has casting time
Alt + those above I am using for buffs/debuffs.
Can I assign the keys in DAOC like this? If so, please show me. The more you help me here, the better, cause I have no idea how addons work and what they do for DAOC.

Its not perfect but its a start.
The setup your trying to archive will gimp you in daoc, in my opinion at least. But nonetheless I will get easy points for killing you
Ok, so this is based on memory, can't log in atm.
You can qbind stuff from your quickbars to various keys using the qbind command. So basically type “/qbind” and a dialogue will explain – sort of. You will have to play around with this, and remember to clear the keys you want to bind spells to: you will need to clear R(reply), T(torch) etc.
Go to options (in game) and select 3 quickbars. Each quickbar have 10 slots for spells. Pressing shift-2 will show the second line on your first quickbar (can also be navigated with arrows to the left of the bar). Go to line 10 and place the stuff you wanna qbind there so its out of the way, or you can just put it where ever you want.
Then populate the quickbars and you might need to use /keyboard to change how you use alt+ and shift+
I know what you want is possible, try in game advice channel for more help, OR /send lvl50s for help. Do /who 50 and spam away, some are bound to be helpful hehe

May I ask why you think this playstyle will gimp me? It is in fact faster & easier to reach Q, E, R, etc and the mouse buttons, than move the left hand away from WASD to click on 7, 8, 9 & 0. I use Shift + y to reply with. I am sure I could re-assignt torch to something easy like alt + x, which I never use for skills.
How many skills are commonly used for an end level toon in DAOC? The most Ihave bound is nearly 40 for LOTRO and WoW; not as many in Anarchy Online, but still a large amount here too. But AO does not support customizble keybindings on same level as LOTRO & WoW unfortunately.

It might not be bad at all actually, just a little different then what i'm used to. I also qbind Q and E among things.
Hmmmmm. I'm ingame now, and you might be right that binding shift-something seems diffecult. As an alternative you can use shift-2 to change qbar real quick and then 1-2-3-4-5-6, then shift-1 and 1-2-3-4-5-6

Most appreciated! The more you can help me here, the better. I will try convince some friends to join as well if this is solved. They are 'WoW' gamers, and barely know the meaning of MMO (like 90% of WoW doesnt). Still, I will try do my best there.
DAOC definately deserves another chance, or even a first chance, from me and 'new-school' gamers! I really miss Faction PvP. I find atm WoW shallow and non-challenging. Nothing has any meaning there. I know that there are border wars in DAOC, and I would love to participate in them.

The problem with the UI is the simple fact that you cant turn your character with the mouse(holding right mouse button) while strafing with A and D like you can in all modern mmo's. I remember panning my camera with keys for crying out loud looking for incomming back when i played. It seems so counter intuitive now.
You also dont start moving quickly or stop moving quickly unless you hit /face which is really hard to get used to after years of responsive movement.
I tried to go back to daoc but the movement is so outdated its impossible. If they made it like evey mmo ive played since daoc : vanguard, aoc, war, aion, etc.... id re-sub. Its the same company just add in WAR's UI to daoc and let the user choose.
hmm... not sure what you mean because I can strafe and turn my camera view with the right mouse button?
