this poll does not make any sense. how many of those voted have played all the games listed to even have an opinion? and if none of the above was chosen, shouldn't the voter be required to enter a field of what game should win instead?
also, what?
You are assuming that the voter would have been impressed with any MMO in 2010, at least enough to vote on it. In reality, 2010 was a lousy year for MMOs. here's to hoping 2011 can turn things around.
The way I look at it is this: awards are generally not given out to the least crappy example of the bunch. That would be a completely pointless award.
As strange as it is, I think mmorpg.com did the right thing to mark an extremely poor year in the genre.

I hate how Vindictus actually tries advertising their "physics". As if picking up giant items and fighting with them is "physics", or that just because something breaks, that's "physics".
Please, design some current, wind, correalis effects, bullet drop, or something like that, and then advertise "physics", because breaking down pillars is nothing new.
Wow all respect to mmorpg , you guys shocked me , it wont earn you brownie points with the developers of this year ...
But atleast it wins you brownie points with mmorpg community .
I expected the next in line to win ..
Lets say i am flabber gasted ....
totally agree...........very non- professional
So they say "best new game of the year " is "none of the above". At 32.1% i must try this game, funny i cant seem to find their website!! And i really wanted to try out this new game of the year.

It's a statement.. that no game released in 2010 was worthy of the "honor" of being selected. And that it would tarnish the concept of "New Game of the Year" to have had to pick one of a bad bunch.

Maybe this poll is not that interesting as it's the first year of the mmo's, meaning they're not at their best yet.
Huh?
If that's the case then this poll again serves as a statement. Keep your game in beta until it is ready to release because MMO players have had enough with half baked launches, unfuilfilled promises, and broken games.
Deliver what you promise or go down in flames.
I am very comfortable with the results of the poll. Maybe it'll make those in the industry reconsider before pushing a titile out the door in beta state, or worse, just to get the cash flowing in from gullible gamers.

It is very unprofessional, I agree.
Yes, every game that's launched over the last several years has had a very vocal set of people that dislikes it. What else is new?
Whether a majority of the MMORPG.com community liked each one of them or not, one of these games had to be the "best", by the very definition of that word. Oddly enough, almost 68% of the people responding to the poll thought that at least one of the games deserved the honor.
"None of the Above" was a bad idea. I wonder if they will have this as an option every year from now on, because every game that comes out is going to have a vocal group of people that hate it.
For myself I voted none of the above for a reason. In my own opinion it was becouse I was not satisfied with the quality of relases this year and in the case of one, very disapointed. To me it seems like this industry is just looking to churn out low quality cash cows with little or no inovations at all. I can not speak for everybody who voted none of the above but they are my reasons. It was to send a messege and I think mmorpg.com had big stones for allowing us the option.
Maybe companies and investors will eventually take note of how many 'good' games end up failing or being drastically under-appreciated due to buggy and otherwise prematurely launched.

Nonesense. Although I voted for Perpetuum realistically I figured none of the above would win. It really was a miserable year for MMORPG's and do you really think a game like STO should have gotten the award like it did over on massively?
Of course not. Fact is, they were all pretty much disappointing for anyone looking for a AAA title to play.

Thank goodness for the "none of the above category". Let's hope 2011's votes will turn out differently with three greatly anticipated games (Guild Wars 2, Rift and SWToR). Maybe even four if you add in Telara.
perpetuum and vindictus: these games represent 2 extreme and opposite wings of the genre. thats a bit astonishing.
however the majority thinks, there was no game worth this title, which is a pretty clear message.
unfortunately i just saw, that another popular website elected STO the best game in nearly all categories. now this message is disastrous.
Everyone and their grandmother knows the polls on Massively were skewed due to one STO fan who managed to vote a couple thousand times. They even hinted at it lol.
2010 was a really bad year of MMO releases, with one major dissapointment after the other.
None of the Above is the only correct outcome and "finally" the MMO community has spoken.
Well u guys should consider the possibility that just having too many mmo's out there has a saturation effect on players . Innovations are needed and none are delivered . Companies are afraid to try new recipes . Is it possible to create a new game with an old recipe ? Everything I try these days seems like the same in a new dress . With bugs .
Hope you people realise that in the marketing terms voting "none of the above" equals voting World of Warcraft. And Perpetuum is a fine game.
EDIT: Ok just to ninja clarify before someone quotes. Perpetuum (and to an extent Vindictus) is a good game with different and fresh take on a mmorpg genre as well as smooth and bugless launch. By voting "none of the above" you're basically saying "nope, we'd like more of the WoW-crap please". So I guess enjoy your Rift then.
Since the MMO (and mmorpg) industry release just too much "skin jobs". They look different but act the same.
Then the publishers rush the release out the door before it's usefull and project leaders don't have balls enough to structure their project accordingly (and the devs get all the flak).
And this year (2010) has been a long run of "not again".
Even though publishers belive that new payment models work (a.k.a. freemium), "'couse if it works for company x it just MUST work for us, right... right ...? Right!".
At least the single-player games have gotten a boost...
Very refreshing to see indeed, and truly speaks the voice of the gamers.
All the developers need to do is LISTEN to its players and weed out the bad .. and roll in the best.
RIFT planes of Telara is doing it right.. pay attention developers... they will be #1 next year.
About Rift... I'm in beta (don't worry, NDA was released a couple weeks ago, I can talk about it). I wouldn't say they're doing it right. There's alot to be desired. All it has to offer right now is different graphics, combat, and quests, and most of the quests are of the "fetch x of this" type. Mind you, what they have is nearly bug free and absolutely beautiful.

I beg to differ, I think it does both. It says the developers that what you have done this year sucked (reskins, poor launches, overhype) AND (unfortunately) that older games work (WoW, Lotro, DnD, EVE..etc).
I think voting none of the above is a powerful message to developers to change not just the games but how they are sold, marketed, managed..etc

Most disappointing MMO year ever so far IMO and that's saying a lot.

Seems developers are not tapping into all the different niches of players out there very effectively in 2010?
A refreshing result.

Kinda sad if you ask me. I played a few of those games, they weren't so bad.
OK, Mortal Online is a plane crash site, but other than that...
Alright FFXIV is a debacle, but on the other hand...

I voted for Vindictus. Great concept, 0 depth; the lesser of all the evils.
Let's look forward to a better 2011!
someone just make a MMO named None of the Above will be a good for marketing
