Was playing LOTRO recently and was thinking, would'nt be awesome if AC was ported to the LOTRO engine ?  I havent played AC in 5 years, i tried the game back last year but unfortunatly i can no longer stand the graphics, playing the game on widescreen monitor is so horrible.   I'm wondering how difficult it could be to do that ?  I know if they could update the engine to modern graphics it would probably help the game get more players.

I'm aware of that, that's why it failed.  We wanted a AC 1 game with modern graphics not a totally different game like they did with AC2.

It failed for many other reasons.I enjoyed AC2 a lot and wish they'd bring it back.

I do agree AC does need a major graphical facelift. You would think they'd focus more on their roots then

Lord of the WOW online.I tried it again a few months back, and i couldn't get past the graphics either.

I am not saying graphics play a major role for me,but AC's graphics are just inexcusable.

AC fans (don't worry I'm one of them) like to say the whole reason AC2 failed was because it wasn't AC.

It failed for two reasons - 1) It had some major balance/technical issues even as severe as the chat system dying for a month so no one could talk in game. That drove people away pretty fast 2) It was ahead of its time. Now the design that AC2 used is the main design MMOs use and it works, back then it was something new and different including the UI which is now the standard for UIs.

Most of the issues were fixed by the time it shut down but the damage was done.

As for AC with better graphics, well this comes up about once a week. Clearly there are people out there who will only play a game that has pretty graphics. Those same people will jump from game to game because they need something new to stay interested. It would cost millions to significantly upgrade their engine, upgrade all their models/textures/particles and rerelease. It would bring back some of the "I need graphics" people but in 2-3 months they would leave again for something else new and exciting.

Now if they decided to do a whole new engine inside and out. Fix all the issues with currently gameplay (like how easy it is to macro). Expand some systems that work well. Get rid of the unused content, beef up the used content, etc etc etc. Then it would likely see a huge boost in numbers. But it would also be a huge investment and would be seen as significantly risky so it is doubtful they will try it.

They have been upgrading textures and models, and they do look far far better then what was there before, but it is doubtful the graphics engine itself will be touched anytime soon.

Which is really a shame... I honestly would be playing AC still, if my entire monarchy hadn't hopped ship to WoW and then dispersed into the four winds when they realized it sucked. The graphics aren't so much a turn-off as the lack of the old community is.

I re-upped and logged in about six months ago, and the marketplace was deserted. Granted, I'm one of those who felt the pain when Sub became deserted (thanks to the marketplace, lol)... But still. The game is a phantom shell of it's former self. I could care less if it got a complete graphics overhaul.

I have many fond memories of AC... Bael'Zharon's invasion... Hunting for the elusive Scarecrows to get all the costume pieces... Pwning the Tusker king to get the skill upgrades... Singularity Caul... And the first time I ever visited the Direlands, and how scared I was! And then the Obsidian Plain... And that freakin White Bunny north of AB.... And eventually the Valley of Death, my favorite late-in-the-game grind spot. *sigh*.......

My long days in Dereth are behind me, for good I'm afraid. No amount of graphics upgrades will ever bring back the good old days...

The marketplace is still used but a lot of allegiances setup in the starter towns or at their mansions. But yes the people you play with will eventually move on, if you don't like to meet new people that you will find yourself lonely, that is true of every MMO and often times life as well.

All of those things you fondly remember are still there, and the scarecrows will be coming back in a couple of weeks along with the rest of the october festival stuff.

It might be fun to play AC again... I have no problems meeting and playing the game with new people, but as Heraclitus said; "It is impossible to step into the same river twice."

Really, no matter who I meet, it just won't be the same any more.

Unfortunatly if you view MMOs by "the people I used to know who played" every MMO will be dead to you at some point. People will always move on due to different real life issues.

There are a lot of good people on servers like FF, SC, etc. so why not go back and get to know new people and build up new friendships.

There are a lot of changes and additions headed to the game in a little over a month so it would be a good time to get in and get a character leveled up some so you could check out all the new content with people in November. Not to mention all the festival content will be back on in a week or so.

Yes let's flame anyone who suggests something that might help the game improve!!!!!How dare they suggest such a thing as even a minor graphical overhaul.I want the mass majority of MMO players going to world of warcrap so i can be alone in my ELITE GAME that is to good for them.

    EYE CANDY WHORES!!!!

See,it is like this, graphics from 99 should allure anyone into playing our game.Cause they are so Retro and stylish.Obviously if you do not agree with me you must play world of suckcraft while sucking on your mom's nipple.

    GO Back  to WOW !!!!!!!!

This is the kind of crap i read all the time when anyone even suggests updating the graphics for AC.Did you retards ever stop and think that we like your game,it's an awesome idea with no classes,it's just for some of us graphics play somewhat of a role into the immersion equation?

The graphics don't even have to be the uberest.Just some new character models would sell me into resubbin to AC.It's kind of hard to lay a game in front of someone that looks like crap and tell them it is the best thing going.I think it is one of the better games to be honest.I wish i could get past the 99 graphics.I am actually kind of jealous of anyone who can get past the graphics.Who knows maybe i will resub someday and try again.

Until then i got some gobs to kill in Darkfall.

AC is truly a GREAT game.

    AC has truly lousy graphics.

    End of story.

It's not the graphics, but the engine for me. The engine is so limited in what it can do. You basically can't do two things at once or in rapid succession, there is no fluidity in the movements of the character. That and melee combat is only auto-swings, granted there is some interesting mechanics in the high, mid, low swings and power vs. speed, but still.

If they could port the game to a better engine, I'd be all over it again.

The reason people comment on others saying "If they'd upgrade the graphcis I'd be back" is that it is honestly a fairly lame reason for playing a game.

Also, that type of customer is far from loyal. Yes, they will come back for a bit when the graphics are modernized. But, 3 months later when a newer shinier game comes out they go to that. The type of return on investment for all that work is low because those are the type of customer that doesn't play an MMO long term. It is that simple.

They have updated the landscape textures as well as some other objects in game. With the latest patches they released a new creature, the snow tusker. It is a higher poly, better textures model then pretty much all other creatures in the game. They've also pulled the models/textures for the Gearknights and Gurogs from AC2 and added them into AC. Basically, they are working on the art. They just aren't going to toss out 20-30 million to update the engine and all the graphics at once to get the spike in return players who come to check out the shiny and then move on to another game very quickly.

A lot of people realize that the gameplay is the most important aspect of a game by far. So when they hear someone say "I'd play if the graphics we're better" they tend to look at that as a foolish game mentality. That mentality is what has caused the gaming genre to rarely put out a good game but to put out tons of games per year. They do this so that they make a lot of money in a year by those who jump to the new shiny game each time. Look at XFire and Steam's most played games each day. Half of those games are 5 year old or older. Companies stopped making quality games because making a crap game that has cutting edge graphics and lots of particle effects make people keep buying the next one and the next one.

  • SnarlingWolfSnarlingWolf Member Posts: 2,697

The graphics aren't cutting edge, but they really aren't that bad these days either.
