Im currently looking for a new game.. Ive always played FPS games but recently Im getting more and more attracted to MMO's... WoW was the first MMO I played but became boring after 2 months.. now Im looking for a new game but nothing really attracts me except for this game, the teamplay and whatnot. (The Graphics scared me first though, hehe).
Anyway.. Ive got some questions:
I read theres an expansion comming.. do I have to pay for that seperatly or is it included in the monthly fee, since 15 isnt nothing.. ?
Also, Im quite a fan of "Fast" games.. not as in fast action.. but just play. A few examples:
-In wow theres gryphons that fly you somewhere.. that could easily take 5 - 10min.. I have the patience for that..
-In Eve Online when you had to warp 7+ gates.. it takes at least 20min.. which can get quite boring if theres nothing on TV and all...
Could you classify this games speed under Eve or under WoW ?
Also, Hows the gameplay? Can someone describe me a view of what you do in game..
If you need clarification about what I asked.. please say so.. ill be happy to try and explain myself further
Thanks in advnace,
Nubcaek
(Also - if double post.. sorry.. it didnt show up lol)
Comments
1 - Its not an expansion, its a rerelease of the game to store shelves, so its just what you would get if you joined today. There is a new patch coming soon, 1.19 which is improving on a lot of things graphically (new water, weapon models) and various game play things (UI and HUD, actual turret travers rates, etc.)
2- Action is always easy to find. Generally an attack objective goes up and it concentrates most of the players on them, gerally there is between 3 - 7 attack/defensive objectives up at anytime depending on how many officers are on. The only thing that can be time consuming is having to fly or drive from a back line town because the frontlines are out of supply.
3- The game play is great. On a typical night (Im an HC officer in the OKW - German High Command, so its different than most) I log into game and hop on the OKW TS server (have to be in an OKW squad ) and find out what my squadmates are up to. Then I get in touch with the ranking division officer to find out what the orders for the night are and where the divison or brigade is operating. Then depending on the situation I grab a tank or infantry and attack or defend and try and push the front west
Sounds like a game for me
How are controls, especially in airplanes?
Ive played some flightsims too, but I think those are called Arcade flight sims because flying is quite easy.
Hows the flying in this game? Is it arcade or do you have to start up a lot of stuff before taking off? Like flaps and whatnot?
Thanks in advance,
nubcaek.
-Edit-
Also, I read theres a keymapper which makes you able to map JS keys to Keyboard keys somewhere? Can anyone give me the link to the download or tell me the name? Cos I do have a JS but I prefer a mouse, and I wanna map some stuff.. like stearing a truck ;p
-Edit-
Typo - ;p
Controls are good, its a great flight sim. I recomend using a JS though, without you can keymap, but even a cheap $20 joystick is better than using the keys (tanks and all driving too). Its such a good flight sim that until you learn the ins and outs of your plane, chances are your gonna go down in flames every time (i still do lol)
:O
So.. I gotta use a JS for driving? oO
Thats new for me.. Ive used a JS before in flightsims.. but for driving.. hehe.. ah well.. gotta make some room on my tiny desk for a JS then ;p
Ok Ive Decided... this is a nice game but the controls are very messy in my opinion.. so I wont subscribe.
Thanks for you help btw!
Have you tried remapping the controls? The keymapper is very useful. I dont think Ive got any of the defaults left.
I cant remap the JS controls to Keyboard controls :
If theres a way to do it, please tell me.. and btw.. I cant stear in a tank with my JS... very wierd ;
Also, its very complex how a tank works.. any info about that stuff somewhere? Official site doesnt seem to have it.. or I just havnt looked good enough. :
Also, my screwy wingmaster 2 JS tends to go up when in idle stance.. :
Ill find some stuff for ya
Also, is there like 3rd person view?
no third person view on the server, Its a 1st person sim
look here:

You can get into the action as infantry, at gun, aa gun, truck driver and mostly tank quite fast...especially when You help defending a town under attack!
You'll need more time to fly and drive the better tanks...the Map is 1:2 RL scale and bringing planes from rear airfields to the front takes time!
It takes a lot of time to play ships and fly bombing missions deep in enemy territory.
WWIIOL is a mix between infantry fps and wwii vehicle sim. The planes are not arcarde, but more like a "real" simulation...need to get used to the controls!
What makes WWIIOL unique is that here player-skill and teamwork counts, not the level of Your char. And a side can actually win and You can make a difference that has impact on the advancing or loosing of Your side! And there is a complete player-run High Command organization behind each side...if You want to play armchair general You can work Your way up the ranks in the HC and become a Leader and Commander up to CinC!

Life is too short to play bad games.
Thx for the link mate, ill check the site tomorrow
Err.. its exactly the same as the manual shown on the official site.. and it doesnt tell me how to map the JS keys to Keyboard keys.. so.. thanks for all the help, but ill pass this game.
You should visit SgtSpoon's keymapper site. You might find something there to help. I've driven vehicles with a KB in the past (not by choice), so it can be done.
http://www.4n4rchy.com/spoon/
Though I do have to recommend that people who really want to enjoy the vehicles in this game to have a decent joystick. It makes the experience much better. I use a wheel/pedal combo for driving trucks and some of the faster AFVs (this due to the much better control I get with a wheel. This allows me to go fullspeed in a 232 and not flip it. heh heh...) and JS for most other vehicles (planes, tanks, AA, AT, etc...). A KB will work, but you'll get killed by those using better input devices in a head to head battle most times.
Have fun!

Mkay..
Anyway, Ive decided I will wait with WW2Online untill I can get a Trial of the game.
Nevertheless.. like I said before, thanks for all your replies and I will definitely save those links.
Pizza, get off these boards. I have chatted with you and I know that you have never even played it because you said it in your own words.

Planetside Fanboy???
Ok Ive 'flown' (sp?) with aircrafts and messed with the controls.. but I have some questions
1)What does "W" do? - I cant find it..
2)How do I get out of my plane?
2)How do I brake.. - Configure it? - I can go read a site.. but I cant focus when reading such boring looking stuff : - So if anyone can explain .. thx!
3)Starting the plane.. taking off.. overall no probs.. besides the fact that ever plane goes to the left every time.. any way to fix this?
4)Flying the plane.. Soo easy.. Nothing to it.. though.. I dont know what some things do.. and how to configure them.. -
5)My Main problem is.. I dont know how to "Strafe" in the air using the tailrudder thing.. If anyone can explain that.. thanks!
6) What do I do when my Landing Gear jams? And how do I know its out or in?
If possible.. can anyone post their bindings.. ? Would be nice to see the config of an experienced player..
If I can configure my flying and playing in a tank today.. I might even subscribe tomorrow.. )
Ah, thanks for your reply!
1)I was flying in a spitfire and when I pressed 'W' something flipped on the instrument panel.. couldnt find the bind..
2) Ok thx!
2) Ack, ofcourse! Thanks! (Heh 2x '2' )
3) Ooh.. and.. After takeoff I should unlock it again ofcourse..
4) I dont know how to Trim - Can you explain what it is and all? Yes, Continues/Economy/Max Wep/boost? Nope, can you explain it? Gears, yes. Canopy.. yes.. but whats the use? Tailgunner? As in a 2ppl plane? Cant try since Im playing offline mode.. Controls will be the final factor to make me buy or not buy the game.
5) Huh? What do you mean? - When I wanna attack ground targets I find it very difficult to move my aim a bit with the JS.. in Battlefield 1942 I used Strafe to adjust my aim left or right..
6) Aight, thanks
That is because the torque of the engine is modeled. The propeller turns to tee left and when at high RPM, such as takeoff, it will pull to the left. This is an accurate representation of what happens in a single engine propeller driven aircraft. Give it a little right rudder or pull to the right SLIGHTLY with your stick to compensate. When taxi-ing on the ground, you can also apply a little right wheel brake (x) to comepensate.
Have Fun!

Aaah nice info thx!
-Edit-
I just tried it and it works great! Thanks
AAaargh! Still dont know how to stear with a tank.. : If anyone can explain it to me.. please do!
Nub,
Tanks have multiple positions that represent the crew. Position 1 (key press 1 on keyboard) is the driver for all tanks. In this position, you drive the tank. Start engine (E), put the tank in gear (]) and push forward on JS for throttle. To turn left or right, push JS left or right under movement, not at a stand still.
For almost all other tanks, position 2 is the commanders spot. That spot gets to open the top hatch and use binocs to spot enemy. Thats his only real purpose.
Position 3 is the gunner. He fires the main gun (big cannon) and the secondary machine gun.
Some tanks have a position 4 which is the hull gunner. He gets to use the machine gun mounted near the driver with a 90* forward view.
If you are opperating a tank, you can only do 1 position at a time. If you multicrew a tank, the person who requested the multicrew only populates position 1 and 4. The "joiniee" populates pos 2 and 3.
There are slight differences for each tank but I think you'll get the idea.
Try it out in offline mode and pick the PZIII or PZIV tank (or for allied tanks try the Sherman M4A2 or Stuart M3)
Btw, this is where individual skill comes into play. Since only 1 position of a tank can be "operated" at a time, a players skill shows in how quickly he/she can manipulate all the positions quickly in a moving battle with enemy tanks/infantry/aircraft. Some people are really good at this, others are moving targets
There is also an element of tactics that one should employ when using a tank in WWIIOL, but that will be for another post.
Good luck
PS, I listed several default keyboard controls. I have remapped almost all to my JS so if I'm wrong on one, its because its from memory. In any case, check the keymapper for a list of controls for Tanks.
http://www.wwiiol-pilots-manual.com/
Nub make sure its mapped to the correct axis on the JS. I mapped mine to the Y - Axis once and that wasnt fun :P
Nub,
In the keymapper, under Tanks, make sure the setting "left track clutch" and "left brake" are set to the same thing (ie -x axis joystick1) By default, they should be. Also make sure the right track clutch and right brake are set to the same axis too (+x axis joystick 1).
Now try this, in offline mode spawn a tank. From position 1, turn engine on, place it in gear and push the joystick up and to the left (assuming your throttle is y axis).
When you do that, what happens?
http://www.wwiiol-pilots-manual.com/
Aaah, that solves it. They were bound to JS 1 by default, but my JS is JS 2 )
The new changes to the game has really taken all the fun out of the game. I strongly advise you put your money on other games!
