I've been in all three betas for Rift and no Rift is not hot. If I wanted to play Rift, I'd just pick up WAR. And no WoW and Rift share nothign in common outside of UI features. But Rift doesn't have WoW's best UI feature, Dungeon Finder. I left WoW after TBC and came back for 4.0.1 and frankly WoW is just mindblowingly better today than anything else I've been playing since. If Rift gets AoC, today, numbers I'll be very surprised.
people, please try the BETA, or some trial first when it comes out. Than youll see that your better of in WoW. There is absolutely no "vibe" in the game, its plain, dull, boring. Don't believe me, try it out. And if you stil like it after 2 weeks playing, than decide to get it!
No offense but Rift is nothing close to WoW. They failed miserably if they were trying to clone or improve on WoW in any way.
No offense but your comment isn't even close to accurate. Rift has some things in it that does improve the genre. One that will be stolen in a few months I'm sure. AoE looting, class design and Invasions are actually an improvement on the stale themepark ride we've become accustomed. Is it ground breaking? Nope. But it is the best MMO to come out in a long time.
Actually DCUO is better.
Invasions were done better in tabula rasa.
Rift is burning crusades with PQ. Solid enough to keep a few hundred thousand subs (better then most these days). But its not even in the same league as wow.

Agreed.
Frankly, Rift couldn't hold a candle to WoW on it's best day, it is easily (imho) one of the most lackluster mmorpg beta experiences I've had over the course of the last decade. They have a long, long, long journey ahead of them if they honestly think they are going to be some kind of competition against the juggernaut.

Do not compare a super hero MMO with a Fantasy MMO. You wouldn't compare WoW to say EVE or CoX, so do not do the same thing here. At the end of the day, MMORPG said it best. Rift is a polished, albeit familiar MMO. That's really all there is to it. The rifts and invasions are fun. The class system is really unique and cool. The rest is the same old same old we've seen before. Not that that's generally a bad thing if it's done right, and I think Rift is doing a competent job of it. Will I buy Rift? No, I'm already reasonably involved with WoW.
It's AOC, Warhammer online and Aion Pre-launch all over again!
Wait til 6 months after launch when this forum is full of threads like:
"How long til Trion pulls the plug on rift", "How long til Rift goes F2P" and "Rift: Miserable failure"
"We have barred the gates, but can not hold them for long... They have taken the Bridge and the Second Hall... We can not get out. The end comes. Drums, drums in the deep. They are coming..."

Think Rift is more solid then those 3. (technically i like AOC more then rifts. But rift will have a lot more solid launch then AOC and lack content gaps AOC has at the outset. Also be a lot less buggy)
saying Rift has that WoW feel just tells me not to buy it
Spot on with your comments. I beta tested 1 to 3 and while I understand they may well make the game more difficult on 01/03/11 for me the game is weak and the death penalty, well there aint one.
I never played Wow only beta tested that and this feels the same for the sake of it. Crafting is poor and easy, to many items drop making them worthless, I could go on but i do not want people thinking I'm just here to troll so I'll leave it at that and I wont be bothering at all.
Good luck to everyone who does and I hope you get loads of fun with it.

Person before me said "best MMO to come out in a long time." I said no "DCUO was funner". Subject was MMO market as a whole not just fantasy genre.
The rifts are fun, and the invasions are ok. But were rather lack luster. (might been because it was low levels.). The rifts were pretty dynamic when they opened also. If there was a large group closing one, they would open up another rift right after to keep the fun going.
The class system, kind of unique. Mostly just mutlispecing with a few more combinations. Still fun. Combat was also very responsive.
The boring questing is what did me in though. This game will do well. But it cannot compete head to head with either GW2 or Swtor. It will nicely fit into the gap though. People finishing wow and who have nothing to play till swtor comes out.
I have to say I have played all the big fantasy games and they all have some good stuff. Of course there are gonna be fanboys for all of them. My unbiased opinion is that Trion is trying to combined the best of all of them and it looks like they are doing a pretty fair job. I am excited to play this game because now we all have a chance to start fresh. I do not have to compete with people who have 10 alts and who have played since the dawn of man. Wow is a great game 10 million people cannot be wrong. I just prefer to chase a different carrot than them. I hope to be pwning you soon

saying Rift has that WoW feel just tells me not to buy it
It has that feel of something big and exciting like WoW did 6 years ago . It does'nt just build on WoW but also other games like EQ . Evolution . Not sure what your looking for an mmo but if its something fun and smooth and playable then you could do a lot worse .
I'm betting once you've been in a trial you'll like it . Given this is a game with nothing to hide I would expect one within around the same amount of time WoW offered one after release.

World PvP in Azeroth is dead. Blizzard has done everything they can to insure that. Guards are everywhere. Flying mounts insure that you don’t have to fight unless you have the advantage. Phasing insures that even when there are players out in the open-world, they may not even be able to see each other. The Random Dungeon Finder insures that no one is fighting outside of instances. World PvP has degenerated into the occasional gank while you are finishing up dailies or gathering crafting mats.
By its very nature, Rift promotes a server community. The Rift invasions require the server to work together to hold them back. In many cases, an entire zone can be over-run without the server working together. Over time, alliances will form, rivalries will be fought. Its just the way Rift works. If you miss that from WoW, Rift is your game.
The server community in WoW is almost non-existent. The cross-server Dungeon Finder was the final nail in that coffin. Now, you are typically matched up with four people you don’t even know for an instance. Compared to yesteryear the server community is a fractured mess of what it used to be.
Gone are the days in which Azeroth was a busy world, filled with players running to and fro, completing quests and making the world alive. Now, most players sit in Iron Forge or Orgrimmar and wait for their next queue to pop.
I think everyone is getting a little too hyped for Rift. It's just a video game. It may or may not be a great game. I like it, it's fresh and has some neat features. But I'm keeping my expectations low.
Don't get your hopes up guys. It's just another game.

What does a game company do when it feels it's getting "old and bloated" ? Just exactly what the developers of WOW did. They reinvented WOW.That's what Cataclysm was all about. What did they sell... 3-4 million copys in the first 24 hours of intro ? That says to me ...many buyers felt the revised/reinvented WOW would be far from "old & bloated".

Sorry wow is old, yes the graphics have been updated a bit but its still the same old wow in the end. Nothing new just the same crap over and over again. The expansions are always the same crap just in a different way. Wow was a great game now its time to move on and RIFTS the game till something better come's out.

No. . .I wont take that bet.
Maybe, but the rifts scale a bit too nice. I have closed rifts with 3-4 players as well as large numbers and if it will be like that in the endgame you don't have too work that much together.
Rift should have gone further with RvR, a few keeps the other side can capture for advantages would make the RvR a lot more fun.
Rifts main advantage to Wow is modern graphics and less use of instances unless the game have some surprises when it launch. But I don't see Rift take the RvR fans and keep them, GW2s the mist seems a lot better choice in the long run.
I think Rift will have around 500K players. It is rather solid but doesn't offer enough new experience to take over the subs from games like Wow, Rifts main opponent here seems to be TERA.
The games that might take a chunk out of Wow is instead TOR and GW2, like the games or not. Both those companies have already millions of fans and really experienced devs together with a different player experience and a huge budget.
Rift is a pretty good game, and the best that released in a few years but the competition will be tough for the next few years.
I subbed into wow early in december with a job and school. Already got two 85's and the cataclysm gear seems WAAAAAY better than the old raids making it totally useless to do most of the raids. Way too fast to levle, too painful to grind craftsb ecause you need 1 item of every amn type in the entire universe when yo get a bit higher in it.
And theres absoloutely nothing to do once you play a few weeks and hit the level cap..... Basicly the game is going from 0-85 and you done.....
People probably gonna yell omg you havnt even played the game! but I played a fair bit at 85, didnt really see the point although I did play on for a bit...

there is no "vs." between Rift and WoW,people will like either one based on their preference.

Hail Rift! Bye WoW!
Theres no way in hell Rift will beat WoW.
As a wise man once said, WoW will slowly be chipped away at by all the new MMO's, there will never be one WoW killer.
I have no clue who that man was, i just remember what he said
No one said it will beat wow or kill it doesnt mean that RIFTS not a better game.
