The fact that there was no Darkfall on this list, and the fact that WoW got such a high percentage just from revamping their old world (something almost every MMO has done, including Darkfall this year), voids this entire stupid "accolade". When did this genre become so pathetic?

Ok so it had expansion. Is that innovation ?

Did something fundamentally changed in mechanic of EVE ?

    Nothing.

Its a same old and good game.

So maybe best MMO of 2010.

    But innovative ?!?

So many people missed that this vote was supposed to be about things that took place in 2010.

Grats to eve for winning and all, but as I recall it was nominated for innovating the character portrait designer....

I know 2010 wasn't really a banner year for mmos creating new and exciting things, but updating the character creator is the landmark of innovation for 2010?

A sad state of affairs with respect to the genre which is pretty must dead as Was.

The current MMO have no need for large world or persistance as its all end game in 3 weeks; lets hope someone does come alomg with some innnovation soon.

The problem is that pretty much all the games coming out keep talking about how next gen they are when they're anything but. Much older games offered much more on release than any of the recent games from the last few years. Even some of the ones being released soon are a disappointment.

Players expect games to be complete on release. They don't want to see "next year we'll get to it". The genre is failing. And its because the companies aren't willing to spend the money or take the time to do it right BEFORE they open. They'd rather release something incomplete, get the quick cash grab, and run with it, than give us quality. Its disgusting.

We gamers keep looking for someone willing to do it right, but no one is willing to do so. If they don't start giving quality right from the start, its only a matter of time.

If you're going to complain about the victor, the least you should do is mention an example of what you consider to be an innovation another game made in 2010.

(personally I didn't vote as I hadn't ever played 3 of the 5 nominees and one of them I didn't play after the expansion it was nominated for)

Grats to EVE! I am a player although my accounts are inactive (playing other stuff). I think it is one of the most innovative and well run MMO's out there.

  • smutsmut Member Posts: 250

    Grats EVE. Haters gon' hate!

  • YheronetYheronet Member CommonPosts: 8

    grats Eve.

but, anyway, why World of Warcraft third place? is there something innovative in WoW?

  • SheistaSheista Member UncommonPosts: 1,203

LOL at all the tears every time EVE wins an award.

As Jon said: "CCP, the company behind EVE Online, continues to push the boundaries of MMO technology with its single server game...".

Like it or not, Eve evolves for the better with each passing year and expansion and CCP cares for it like a baby child (even with several mistakes or mismanagements as in all things human).

Next ones are the Expansions for the much-expected incarnation of players' avatars.

It's not anybody's fault (and certainly not players' or CCP's) if this remains an isolated jewel in a wasteland of mediocrity, idiocy, lack of innovation or outright dishonesty.

EVE is a great game and innovative in many areas, but I just don't see what they did in 2010 that was innovative.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

We all know the writers at MMORPG have a hard on and bias for EVE.  Adding more bolted on add-ons that don't integrate well with the original is hardly innovative.

  • I wouldn't have given it to them this year, I felt the PI was uninspired, but overall I guess i can say they deserve it :)

  • LaterisLateris Member UncommonPosts: 1,847

    Gratz Eve- well deserved!

I agree- they need to add more to PI.

  • Atlan99Atlan99 Member UncommonPosts: 1,332

    Wow.

I mean the game is good and all. It was innovative when it came out.

But on what merit does it win the award this year? How did it change? It added a new salvage ship and got rid of learning skills.

Hardly anything to justify it being the most innovative game this year.

  • avalon1000avalon1000 Member UncommonPosts: 791

When they add avatars and the interaction of avatars with other avatars and npc's then this game will really take off.  All they need is a server based on the new IBM cpu's.

  • CruncherSixCruncherSix Member Posts: 93

Grats to EVE because it's so innovative.

  • unclemounclemo Member UncommonPosts: 462

    Grats to EVE.

I'm still glad to tell people that I USED to play this game though.  Feels like a job more than a game.

  • JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

I like Eve, but agree the poster above that said this catagory needed a none of the above as a choice. When Eve released it was pretty darn innovative, but nothing I have seen this year has fundamentaly changed the game. That is nothing aginst the quality of the game itself, just wondering what they did that could be considerd innovative?

    I miss DAoC

The EVE we play today is NOT the EVE that released in June 2003.  That is part of why keeps winning awards like this, and deservedly.  The game has been enhanced dramatically, has grown and evolved successfully over the years.

EVE is the opposite of the pushed out the door by the publisher, flash-in-the-pan, over-hyped clone-of-some-other-game, cancelled after several months of mediocrity MMO trend we as players (whatever genre we prefer) have suffered under for most of the last decade.  I hope to see more studios developing quality entertainment for us of any sort based more on the EVE model: gradual growth, gradual enhancement of a core gameplay that works.

    K

What innovations did they come up with this year to deserve this award?

Im a little baffled how eve online and world of warcraft were even nominated for this. I mean come on, how is an updated game world (in wows case) innovative game design?

And in Eves case is pretty much just a graphical interface...

    Still congrats CCP!

  • OcirusskdOcirusskd Member Posts: 212

This poll seems pretty limited, wheres the rest of the games and my new favorite game "None Of the Above". well none of the above is due out in 2011, i still dont see its prequel, All These Games Stink" on that list either. how can you put up a poll without this neweley discovered powerhouse?

Congrats to EVE for another award on the shelf.

I only started playing this in Dec '09 and already ive seen big changes. Sovereignty, Planetary Interaction, Sansha Incursions, Incarna on the way. EVE is the only game which is constantly changing at a steady pace. What other game gets players to let them know of a big fight so they can boost the zone to reduce lag.

Blizzard may boast of changes to their game but WoW is always the same game with new packaging, doesn't matter how high they raise the level cap or add skins to the same stat flying mounts.

Kudos to CCP, I'm looking forward to the winner of their design a ship competition and the role that ship will be released for.

Man its 2010 innovation of the year! NOT 1801 with your SGU,  THAT GAME IS DEAD, innovative for sure!

  • DubhlaithDubhlaith Member Posts: 1,012

They deserve it. It is an amazing game. I simply cannot get into it because I feel so detached from the game world when I play. I cannot feel connected to my actions or the environment.

But, that cannot detract from the brilliance and complexity of the game. Mechanically, and in many ways lore-wise, it far surpasses most other games available.

    WTF? No subscription fee?
