Patching problems

gargantroogargantroo Member Posts: 1,477

After going through the credit card hell, I am now patching, which is taking forever. Is this regular for players? It seems to DL slowly, yet my connection is at it's highest speed. Any suggestions to what I can do?

I'm really teeter-tottering on this one.  Let me know what you think.

For some reason I don't understand, patching is really slooow for SoR. On my 2mbit downloading 70MB took about 40 mins (normally about 3 mins). I guess the client is limiting the download to make it easy for the server. But to tell the truth, same was for some other games I played recently. First patch for Eve Online took about an hour, not sure how much data was there, but my line certainly wasn't fully used...

Anyway, no big deal and in this case certainly worth the wait...

I have the same problem with WoW.   Something to do with firewalls or some junk.

I don't think it's the connection speed.  I am guessing it's what the patch is actually doing (expanding, installing programs and dlls and configuring).

patching can take a while. my ryzom directory is 4.8 Gb. I gues it is comparative to others, so patching the files can take some time.

patching is determined by a few things:
route from you through your isp to the patch servers
programs on your side that might conflict with the traffic(firewalls, bad routers, spyware, virii)
and hdd speed, since the patches are done via diff files
personally, i live in northern germany, and when patching my line is maxed when downloading the patches and applying it to the individual files usually doesn't take longer than one minute per file

I'm pretty sure the major time spent is the way ryzom compresses their game files and how they apply the patches.

Basically if you have ever RARd or unRARd a file on maximum compression youll know what I mean.

Also rather than use checksums it seems to do a rather detailed verification of the files, but then i dont really know im just speculating from what Ive seen and heard.

yes i had the odd patching problem and some speed issues while doing so but recently speed has improved greatly the reason it takes a while to patch is it checks every file after its been replaced from the patcher you can easily see this thou the number of files and thier size is displayed while downloading so you can judge the speed for your self thou i find it not slow around 120k a sec whereas it used be around 60 or so if i had patching problems id just got thier support room and get sum helpful advice too
