So I've been playing Ryzom for a couple of days and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing. I'm hanging out at the outposts still while I try to level up a bit.
I'm just curious if those of you who have been playing it for awhile are enjoying it? What do I have to look forward to as I play this game? Any player housing? Any interesting quests?

My rating, as a fairly new player:
-Immersive graphics and environment: 11 out of 10.
-Exploration factor: 10 out of 10.
-Ease of figuring out: 5 out of 10. It's definitely a thinking game right from the very start, at least until you finally wade through all the available customizable menus and statistics and figure things out. So it isn't the best when you're exhausted from work and don't feel like thinking too hard, at least when you first start playing. However, I imagine that it may well be a powergamer's/stat-cruncher's paradise, right from the get-go.
-Quality of the community: 10 out of 10. Mature. Very friendly. HOWEVER, all of the peeps are on the mainland, which makes the beginning newbie villages feel quite lonely at times!!
-Quantity of the community: 2 out of 10. This beautiful game has NOT hit the mainstream, unfortunately. Luckily, the mature friendliness of everyone, plus features like region chat make grouping and guilding relatively easy, regardless. Newbies get snatched up pretty quickly, it seems.
-Soloing: 6 out of 10. This is a role-oriented team-based game, predominately. HOWEVER, no one is ever locked into a role (such as defensive tank, or healer) permanently. A person is completely free to develop any and all skills (time allowing) and to switch roles simply by taking a minute to change gear and organize things with your teamates. You can still solo stuff, btw, in a beautiful environment, but it's slower than group combat, and riskier.
-Freedom of character development and experimentation: 10 out of 10. The skill system is beautiful, and beats the pants off of all them restrictive, locked-in, class-based levelling MMORPGS.
-Fun of harvesting: 7 out of 10. Seems to involve finding secret spots during the right time of day, weather pattern, and season for the best materials. Resource items are statistically complicated and interesting. However, harvesting seems to be a VERY SLOW PACED undertaking, so you'd better have someone to chat with, or entertaining music, or TV going in the background while you harvest.
-Crafting: You'd have to ask someone else. However, people say that it's just as uninvolved and boring as in many other MMORPG's, and it can also be difficult to sell things, sometimes. That being said, there is a tremendous range of reallly cool looking armour/clothing/weapons/wares of different styles to make, by using different skills and micro-managing a huge variety of different materials with different statistics, which can be quite an interesting undertaking, especially if you're a powergamer or perfectionist!
-Variety: 6 out of 10. The game turns into a bit of a grind where you find yourself seeking out the proper animals in the same area over and over again. Animals do migrate and change their behaviour in really interesting and even amazing ways, depending on the season, weather, and time of day or night; and massive bosses and guardian animals can be found roaming unexpected areas from time to time--however, most people find that despite those things, leveling their stats gets a bit repetitive after a while and turns into a bit of a grind. The nice people to chat to, the beautiful environments, the dynamic animal behaviour, and the in-game MP3 player helps to make up for this though.
-Quantity of music: 3 out of 10. They're still adding music to all areas of the game. In a lot of places, the cries of animals, the hum of insects, the crackling of campfires, and the wind roaring in your ears is all you get--oh, and also the giant monsters roaring in your ears. And there's an in-game MP3 player, which is cool.
-Quality of music: 9 out of 10. What music there is, is really good, and is put in the areas of the game that need it the most, such as loading or lying on the ground dead, where you need a bit of extra entertainment for a little while.
-Roleplaying and events: 7 out of 10. This game attracts people who enjoy wondrous, imaginative environments--however, the population is fairly tiny, so it's still hard to find that many different roleplaying groups to choose from. There are occasionally mysterious fictional events and violent raids of many creatures and super-bosses to contend with, as well, put on by GM's. But these are more like special occasions than a daily occurence. The average day focuses on chatting with friendly people and grinding in a beautiful and dynamic environment.
-Quests: 7 out of 10. They're there, they can have you frantically searching for the proper NPC before your timer runs out, and they can make you feel proud that you know enough about the game to fulfill the different requirements, but they generally aren't any cooler than the randomly generated quests in other MMORPG's--EXCEPT that you can quest to unlock certain secrets about the game's rich and complex fiction, which I personally find cool; and EXCEPT that the time limit on some quests can keep you awake as you frantically race to meet the requirements, and EXCEPT that there is a complex web of interesting and colourful factions in Ryzom and doing quests for one faction raises your fame with them and their allies, but lowers it for their enemies (fame determines whether you can establish a guild in a certain area, get special lore quests in a certain area, what the prices will be in a certain area, or if a certain area will attack you on sight).
-PvP: You'd have to ask someone else. It's consensual, you can do duels or else go to a free-for-all area. And there's a really cool looking base-conquering system presently on the test centre, which is next up to be implemented. However, I should warn PvP-ers that Ryzom's playerbase consists almost entirely of people whose Bartle test shows them at killer:15% or less. Most players seem to be Acheiver or Socializer or Explorer types, so you might feel a bit alone at times. On the other hand, the new outpost base wars should encourage PvP more.
-Housing: 6 out of 10. It's not houses, it's instanced apartments, both individual and guild. The interiors are neat-looking, but they're not customizable. UO is still the king of customizable housing, as far as I'm aware.
In my opinion the greatest strengths of Ryzom are: (a) the beautiful & dynamic environment factor; (b) the complex and compelling backstory and lore quests; and (c) the stellar community. There's also a bunch of neat stats to manipulate strategically, stylish and customizable armour to make and parade around in, and giant bosses to take down, if that's your game.

*WoW = Level 60 Priest*
*EQ2 = Level 25 Druid*
Great description from Golden, can only agree with that.
I would like to ad one thing, recently becoming popular are close combat duel events organized pretty regularly, and even randomly. You get to see 2 peeps slapping each other with 20 other watching them with amusement. More of that seem to be surfacing last few weeks. And one more, recently we had online wedding of two of our guild members, very nice event...

This game rocks! I love it. It gets better the more you play. Stick with it.
The feature that I like the most is the the customizable stanza system (custom build attacks, spells, prospecting and foraging techniques). As others have said, there is a really good community, It just needs to grow some more, but that should come very soon.
I love playing Ryzom right now, but when I think of the potential that is still there, and what is to come, I'm so glad I chose it over other MMORPGs.
simply the best game i ever played online, the community is great, as well as the support and ticket system.
and inimaginable as it is..it even keeps getting better and better
Superb game, just needs more market awareness and it can easily rival WoW and EQ2. The graphics are superb as is the game itself.
Well worth trying out the two week trial, just be aware of the newbie isle numbers. With 4 newbielands with a small % of the server pop spread over them it leads for only a handful of players at best
Once you get to mainland there are far more people. Definatly worth downloading and trying.

yup, the immense freedom of levelling in any skill and no class straightjacket rocks!
Its one of the first steps to my 'dream game'. I wouldn't play anything else at the moment.

I've been playing for a few months, and I have to say that its the best MMORPG that i've ever played. The skill level system is awesome. Instead of working on one type of character, i can work on all of them. Ive played GW, Lineage 2, EVE Online.... the Saga of Ryzom is the best by far.
I love the freedom
think my xfire counter isn't lying either
Moved from Eve-Online to this game and well not really planning to log back on eve-online except for changing skills
Yes, the game is good.
I have been playing it since release, and it still intrigues me. There is something about this game that just keeps pulling me into it.
I love the freedom it gives, I love the community, I love the graphics...
I guess I am just a fanboy now.
Stick with it, and get off the newb island fairly quickly so you can gain the advantages that come with associating with more skilled players. The islands just don't have enough people with a clue to really help. In most cases, you can hit the mainland early (lvl 10 fight, for example) and build from there.
This is a thinking persons game, which is why I love it.
You can play it straightforward and not customize much if you want, but to get the most out of the game, organize and customize each action to fit your personal playing style.
I have different action bars/hands for each of the different activities I engage in, and it works great.

Hello,
I've been playing SOR since the beta tests. In the beginning, just trying to see what i likes...
With 7-8 months of hard gaming i can give you my opinion:
The good things: a lot, but i'm trying to list the most important
1- Very Beautiful graphics, much better then WoW and GW
2- Very interesting multi class system: we can try all the possibilties with only 1 avatar.
3- This is a saga: you enter a real story
4- Huge world, and extensions are coming...
Not good things:
1- The "classes" are not equilibrated
2- The quests are "easy", this is not a game for questing, but rather a game for hunting, exploring ... It seems thats the next patch will come with some interesting missions
PS: Sorry for my english
the game is realy the most interesting game i ever played
I have just moved over to this game when I got bored with WoW.
I wanted something different and man does this game deliver. I am with you that I barely understand what I am doing outside of melee combat but I keep logging in.......I find this game very intriguing and fun.
The community is awesome so far and have always gone way out of there way to answer questions, even coming to the starter areas to show me around.
The game is not easy to pick up imo, I am still learning on day 2. It has me hooked I will be on alot more. Give it a chance, dont log in for 30 minutes then quit, this game takes time, not for the A.D.D. crowd.
