Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Republic Trooper

In his latest Star Wars: The Old Republic column, MMORPG.com Community Manager Michael Bitton takes a look at the Republic Trooper. While announced early on, the Bioware dev team recently expanded the available information about the Trooper. Mike takes a look at the new information and offers a few thoughts. Before I knew that the Imperial Agent (my class of choice) would be a playable class in Star Wars: The Old Republic I’d already set my sights on playing the Trooper, who was one of the first classes announced for The Old Republic (the first being the Bounty Hunter). Don’t get me wrong, the Bounty Hunter was a cool enough looking class, but I’ve always liked the idea of playing a simple trooper in Star Wars, going all the way back to Star Wars Galaxies where instead of chasing the Jedi unlock I preferred to don a suit of Stormtrooper armor, wield an E-11 and blast some Rebels away. Heck, I even enjoyed the Star Wars: Republic Commando video game released several years back.

I'm still undecided between the trooper and the imperial agent.
looks both shitty, like the whole game.
I was going to go IA for a long time, now they are bringing out the trooper stuff and now they got me leaning towards the middle again, game looks good for it's style. Now i just need the dang game to come out.

I know, i may end up having to do it random, otherwise i'll be on the character creation screen for hours trying to decide what character i want to make first.

I was planning on playing a trooper from the get-go, but when they announced the Vangaurd (ranged tank), I was truly sold.
But yeah, the blast cannon...........

i do want to play a trooper. only problem is i'm going to be sith and they dont' have an equivalent.
Troopers are awesome but I'm set on Consular for RP reasons. But my alt is certainly a trooper
The equivalent class in the empire is the bounty hunter (tank/dps). But yes they are not military, if you want to play a military class the closest to the trooper s the imperial agent with the operative advanced class (burst range dps, healer).

Is it solo's handgun im thinking of when he's blasting at darth .. or is it those hovering things on endor? ... or is it the gun someone is holding and shooting whilst riding one? xD

I like the Trooper, but I'm somewhat disappointed with the weapon limitations on the Vanguard class. Also I'm intrigued but not at all sold on the ranged tanking idea until I know more about what the gameplay will be like. Right now I'm deciding between Trooper and Jedi Knight both for tanking and it just seems like the JK will have a lot more fun force skills at it's disposal for tanking purposes.
Like I do in all MMO's. I will try all classes and the one that I feel compelled to log in will become my main. At the moment going for Bounty Hunter first, but if I like something else better, so be it. Trooper is still not the most exciting SW class IMO. But I will get to it eventually.
What, so the Empire has no Troopers of their own?...what about the guys in goldish armor from

Not true. This takes place after KotOR. How else would there be mentions of Revan?

question . if a jedi going sith would the clothes you wear change ? if so if u was a trooper it poly change color and stuff just a gess guys know i dea ?
Isn't it confirmed that Jennifer Hale is voicing this class?
Was so disappointed (why can't she voice one of the lightsaber ones huh?) but whatever, this is my main class.

hey mikeB i know what you mean i used to make all kinds of alts in a games lol and if friends play the game iam on they ask me the quests how each class plays : ) cuz i got the heads up on them lol
may be there useing jennifer make it apealing to the lady players? other wise bring it on commander fem-shepherd : )

In a world where Jedi's with their 'magic called the force' is common, playing an everyday (normal) guy that gets things done via the 'real' way might appeal to some.
