WoW becomes EQ at endgame?

kmimmorpgkmimmorpg Member Posts: 624

I'm bringing the discussion here from the WoW forums.

I never played EQ, but I assume the comparison is to the 2-6-hour long instances that you have to run over and over again to get any decent loot.

For those of you at 60 do you agree?

It's somewhat similar, but two exceptions immediately come to mind: Honor System rewards and Battleground Loot (which hasn't been implemented).

You can also get decent loot off of random spawns. Until the recent patch, most of my blue and purple items came from random spawns.

Well, I meant in terms of the instances. Not everyone will participate in pursuing the rewards from the honor system and like you said Battlegrounds isn't even out yet.

I've gotten 1 epic from a spawn and another epic from turning in a quest. I've found 3-4 blue items in my entire time playing. I consider myself lucky. Yet still it is not nearly enough to keep my character viable.

I'm only 51, I've had maybe 5 or 6 blue items and no purple or better items. I've done every instance at least once, and i've participated in pvp quite a bit(not on a pvp server). I cant wait to go on a raid to kill that damn dragon in the blasted lands.

I tried that dragon (but as usual, couldn't stay logged on long enough to be a part of killing it.). I heard you get 6-8,000xp for killing that bad-dude!

EQ required you to farm all the time just to level. WOW has bunches of quests that consistantly bring you deeper into the game and allows you to level naturally instead of farming. Granted you probably still farm some in WOW, but you don't have to. EQ required you to farm and basically every MMORPG I have played you had to farm to get levels. This is the first time where at low levels you don't have to farm as much.

Other games I have played: UO, EQ, AC, AC2, DAOC, AO, WOW, EQ2, CoH, and others I just don't have time to mention.

Epic items are somewhat over-rated. Skill will go much much much farther then any amount of gear. Don't get me wrong it's very exciting to loot some nice gear. I wouldn't worry too much over being viable due to a lack of good gear.

    Cheers!

I'm talking about endgame (level 60) where you don't level anymore.

I got lvl 60 in a month or so right now i have had my onyxia key for almost 2-3 months, and the end game is terrible its exactly like EQ, for who ever played EQ should know this the "hard core" EQ gamers would know this, but yah end game sucks very hard

yeah the game sux for level 60s like myself who don't wanna wait in town for a group.  i love the hack and slash style in the beginning until you hit 60.  now its "level 60 lfg strat/ubrs/lbrs....."

and just wait forever until you get a group.  they really need solo instances that take a long time to beat like MC.  that way we can just log on and just continue to build up our char without hoping today will be the day i get a group going into an instance.

Banned from Blizzard cause I was too GOOD!!!

WoW, like all MMORPG's, have time sinks to get you to continue playing even after you hit the level cap.  Acquiring the good items in the game is one of those time sinks.  Is it like EQ? It has it's similarities.  But WoW is a lot less harsh with the equipment tiering system and Instanced high-level content.    Equipment does infact matter, to an extent.  For example, the end-game rare armor sets are only slightly worse than the tier 1 epic sets, and the tier 2 epic sets are only slightly better than the tier 1.  But going from the rare armor sets to tier2 epics is quite noticeable, and can greatly improve your character.  The game is also evolving, and the new upcoming content will help bridge gaps between casual players and guilds and the more hardcore players and guilds.

If you are in a good guild or have smart pickup raid organizers on your server, and you are able to attend the raids consistently.  You could probably get full epic equipment in 3 months.  But for more casual players, you are looking at 6+ months depending on your availability.  But that will change when the more casual player friendly raid encounters are released.

Here is a post regarding Blackwings Lair. Tigole, a Blizzard representative, responds with info regarding a more casual friendly raid zone.
