lol, wonder if I can cancel my steam order and go to D2D and save another $10?
Just a warning: Certain states will make D2D charge a sales tax on your purchase. So far I know Il and KY DO charge, LA DOES NOT (learned in same thread in Rift forum here).

Yea, it sucks. I preordered through Amazon to SPECIFICALLY get those gauntlets. I used to it preorder Rift's collector's ed. I figure its a safe backup plan :-)

I've only heard hearsay that they will allow it a day before the game is released.
I've not seen anything on steam to suggest that, so it's up to you if you decide that hearsay is enough.
I'm sure somewhere you can find a beta client link. It's the same patcher, they'll just make it "live" on Tuesday.
They specifically stated that the beta client is a different asset build. They said most fo the files are in the beta build aren't the same as the files in the live asset build, so you'll be downloading most of it anyhow.
At best you shorten the download a bit, end up with a bunch of extra files you won't be using, and open yourself to more chances to corrupt your install.
They did recommend against attempting to use the beta client.

It's called competitive pricing. Everywhere else is selling the game between 49.99-59.99 for the normal preorder from what I've seen.
$40.00 is a pretty good deal.

I have pre-ordered in UK version of D2D and it seems to be OK (I had IP block on US). Prices are almost the same, only thing I am worried now is amount of people on European servers...
So please Eropean ppl, buy EU versions, so I am not alone there

Hrm, there's a timer on steam saying that the game unlocks in 4 days and 3 hours from the time I made this post.
Looks like there won't be any pre-downloading at all if that's the case.
Game sucks anyway, its so bad they probally have to offer such a discount to even sell any copies.. I tried the beta and found the game quite horrible, Boring repetive quests and combat, and I didn't like the lack of an ability to solo later on.

Oh well. weird though as I went through the official site to purchase from UK and apparently it's ps3 only here. You'd have thought they could have got together with 1 uk retailer, even amazon uk. So I'm guessing I can't get the CE here with the bonuses?

Well on amazon I can only see the ps3 version. GAME has the PC version I think. I was sure at some stage Amazon had it but maybe not
As for the CE I haven't seen it anywhere, unless you want to spend a lot getting a U.S. version. Not great from SoE on the international side but heyho :P
