help with planetside lag

in The Pub at MMORPG.COM
i just reinstalled the game and it was runnin ok untill i get in the game.. and then i get bad lag. it will play alright for a few then the whole game will just freeze up for about 10-15 seconds and then go back to playing alright, and it just does that over and over again!! anybody know what could be wrong and how i can fix this!!!! thanx alot!

    im pretty sure my pc can handle it...i used to play it about a year ago and never had this problem.

    It sounds to me like you are having intermittent connection problems with your ISP or your network. The 15 seconds hangs would be times where your suffering massive packet loss or loss of connectivity.

    I had the same problem until I disabled my firewall. Worked perfectly after that.

    hmm i just tried that also and it didnt seem to help any.

    Have you tried updating your video drivers? Also, check to make sure your computer is clear of viruses/spyware/etc.

    You might also check the support pages for planetside, as they have a whole checklist of everything to check for problems, plus someone else might have come across this as well.

    I am 95% positive spooky is right. I forgot about this issue with SOE and all their games. A software firewall will block one port that spuradically causes hard pauses in the connection and bad spikes like you are describing. Fix your firewall and you will be running fine.

    How is Planetside these days?  I tried it when there was a trial, and hated it because the performance was awful.  I'm attributing this to my old PC, or was it actually the lag that caused it to move insanely slow?
