I got Ryzom from a contest back in November, I played Everquest and I also tried out Risk Your Life and Lineage 2. I got WoW in February and played it alot too. But no matter what, no MMO has filled the hole that UO did. In WoW, you dont sit in Taverns and chat with your friends, you dont build houses and throw parties or go to Champion Spawns and fight off PVPers afterwards. Its not the same, UO felt like an actual world.
i play on australian servers because racism is acceptable there

Preach on, brotha. I started UO in 97 and quit in 99 for EQ. Ping-ponged back and forth from UO to other, newer games about 5 times at least now.
Currently playing a free server.
I used to think a game that would live up to UO was just a matter of time. With every new release, that dream moves even further into "vapor".
Wow, that's my new sig!! Damn.

I can take a good guess tho,. iv played there,.An ya every now an then I play UO,. an yes 95% of the new MMO's dont keep me around long,. But the out dated Look of UO gets older an older every time i log in,. once every 3-6 months,.I put a few days into the game an try an relive the glory days, dont last long tho, to bad they dont just do it all ready an make a new UO. GOD DAM I MISS UO AN THE GOOD OL PKing MINERS *cough* I say that out load?

ive played almost every mmorpg out there and in recent years SWG/MXO have been only ones to keep me around. UO i kept going back to like 6-8 times. lol
i've played a lot of games on the list here... most of them are only half a game at best. most are lacking that special something to keep me coming back.
there are a LOT of good games out there... but UO is the greatest game ever created. that's why it's still going strong after all of these years. i used to play d&d as a kid, and i could never get enough of the complexity of it... volumes of rulebooks and guides. well UO is all of that and more. it truly is a virtual world where you can do anything you feel like. the only thing i would do differently would be to take all of the cool custom things from the free servers, multiply that by 100, then add it to the real servers. think of how many monsters there were in the old d&d monster manuals!!!
just got done playing on some other games, and i'm now debating whether to play on uo:demise, quake 3, ut2004, or i was even considering starting my UO subscription back up, just to hang out.... hmm.. i just can't get away from UO. peace.
If one wanted to try UO for the first time, what would be the best route?
15 day free trial here. Be warned it's hard to get into and can be frustrating for new players, but ultimately well worth it.
I played UO when it first came out...played it off and on since then. I have been playing CoH and DaoC recently...but I couldn't be addicted to CoH, it's fun but doesn't have the depth. DaoC has potential..but I've only been playing it for a few days.
There is one other game that had me crazy addicted...I found it comparable to UO in many ways...and the best part is that it's 100% free...no strings attached. www.conqueronline.com I was losing sleep on this one not too long ago.
I purchased UO and played on Atlantic and Chesapeake until EQ came out, and soon after retired from UO. Even though I will probably never play again, I can honestly say that after playing EQ for years and then playing WoW..... UO has the BEST tradeskill system and the lack of housing in current MMORPG's is a real sore point for me.
I don't think developers realize how much housing really lets you get attached to the game. Housing also ends up spinning off an entire market for tradeskills as well - at least it did in UO, where players pay for not only silly items like chairs and tables but also exotic and rare items to decorate their homes.
I think if Origin/EA could find a way to revitalize UO and re-design the graphics interface, they could potentially bring back a lot of former players and bring in new folks as well.

Currrently trying out GW and WoW
