    Alt+F4 works just as well.

I'm of course referring to me being able to log out immediately, rather than wait 20 seconds. Warcraft gave you that option for exiting the game, not simply logging out. Out of all Blizzard's years, putting this simple function in the game was just far too difficult.

Seems like the only thing that Rift has over WoW besides graphics

its to stop hit and run PvP and PvE, making a 20 sec logout (outside safe areas) stop abuse of that game metric.

Except other mmos have offered that option since long ago and the difference is that you either choose to wait the time or log out immediately but the character will still be there until the timer expires.

If things worked the way you think they apparently do, then what would stop people who use alt-f4 and etc....

  • KalmarthKalmarth Member Posts: 443

Because if you KNEW how things work in WoW then unless your in a safe area hitting Alt f4 doesnt insta log you, it will keep you there till your toon times out which is about the same amount of time it takes to log out, it is also the same is you lose connection, if rift lets you do that its not a good thing, your in a raid and you lose connection, wow will hang your toon for a while, but if rift is as you state then it will log you out instantly, now alot of raid will take that as you logged out with out a word and fill your spot.

You can log out before the timer runs out in WOW.

Just hit the log out now button.

It is almost exactly what you showed in Rift.

WoW will keep your toon resident till the times up (unless your in a safe area citys etc) other wise your toon is still there till the timer is up

No, there is only an "exit the game now" feature not a "log out now" feature. Not that I care at all.

Oops! You are correct. Exit game now. However there is a log out button when you hit the escape key.

Kind of funny that this guy posted this figuring most of the vocal members of this site are anti-wow and would be supportive.  Instead people have rallied to wow's defense.  This community just likes to attack anyone that makes a post it seems.

    You sound mad, bro.

I'm not sure what the original poster is referring to. Logging out is standardised long ago and follows other MMOs. There is no difference than any other current popular MMO, if that's what the OP is implying.

AoE loot would have been a much better function to showcase IMHO

Ouch, that was below the belt. But still quite amusing.

I dont really play WOW but, im pretty sure that second to last opition says "Exit Game" .

Seems people really try to find any reason to hate on a game , just sad really.

There is a good reason why it makes you wait that 20 seconds and im very sure Rift has it to , but i doubt you understand it.

Even better go watch this video on Youtube of some guy showing WOW , and its amazing "Exit now button".  This video was posted 3 years ago.

yeah if you wanna log out to your characters you have to wait in WoW if not in a certain area (town) in Rift you don't have to wait BUT you character is still in game for the 20 seconds after you force the log out. so you could log into a dead character next time and not know exactly what happend. keeps people from abusing it. either way its not a major thing in any game just a little convenient.

i remember in Aion people would log out mid fights when they was losing, i think they was just alt/f4 but for some reason Aion instantly left the game. people abused the crap out of it.

but as some one else said the AoE loot is pretty nice, nothing MAJOR but nice.

12 million including other countries, not the US itself. But according to your logic, Twilight and Harry Potter are amazing due to their massive following. Correct?

For the rest of you, you really ought to read before posting. World of Warcraft never had an option to Log Off immediately, unless you were in a "resting" area. If you wanted to log onto another alt, you needed to wait 20 long, annoying seconds to do it. Exit Now was always an option, but why we couldn't just simply skip straight to the character selection screen remains a mystery.
