Arenanet fully deserves this. They have to balls to try something new as well as passion and skill to execute it well. They think outside the box and I like that.
GW1 was a technical marvel and a success by any standards. Much of GW1's bad feedback came from the people's resistance to change and shattered preconceptions. It was too different. I'd imagine GW2 will experience this too to some extent. People have been accustomed to certain things in the past decade of MMO gaming, good or bad (mostly bad imo), and these should be questioned.
I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been-Wayne Gretzky
This category is a tricky one: Gratz to Turbine for choosing to a hybrid pricing system, CCP for the support to EvE, Bioware for being slick and oc ArenaNet for producing eg 10yr respective, blogs, dev panels and really communicating their ideas so well. A few good companies out there.
I agree with the top 5 although I do not see how Trion was third since technically they have released nothing yet but good start all same.
I think they qualify because they are in the business. The same can be said for BioWare and ArenaNet too though. Award goes to a favorite MMO company. Yet, BioWare never released an MMO before, and according to ArenaNet Guild Wars 1 is a CORPG.
Original post by elocke The real question is, if GW2 wasn't about to launch and A Net still only had GW1 as it's game, would the vote be different? I sure as hell think so. GW1 is not THAT great of a game. It's borderline MMORPG and at best more of a co-op rpg. Just saying. I think the reason Arena net won is due to the anticipation for GW2. And that is the ONLY reason. Not hating on them, just saying, GW1 annoys me too much to be a fanboy of Arena Net, hehe. I WILL be playing GW2 though as I am excited about it being vastly different from GW1 and giving me what I thought I was getting when I bought GW1 all those years ago. An MMORPG!
Quoting this for emphasis. Anticipatoin for a game does not make a fantastic game company, everyone. I'm sorry, but companies that have not released a MMO have no business on this list.
If I were to just pick, the order would go something like this: 11. En Masse Entertainment 10. Trion Worlds 09. Bioware 08. Nexon International 07. Perfect World Entertainment 06. Activision/Blizzard 05. Funcom 04. ArenaNet 03. CCP 02. Turbine 01. KingsIsle
Thanks for the links. Mostly the last one with the talk on dynamic events. For PVP lovers it is answered at 45 minutes into the interview and sounds Flippin awesome!!!
Also very much agree with the poll. ArenaNet is one great company!
The big surprise imo is Turbine at #2 beating Bioware and CCP!
Still think its stupid to have companies on there that have never released an MMO.
I voted for Turbine. Never been let down by them and they (like CCP) seem to just power along by themselves focusing on improving their own game/s and actually doing it.
Also i would also like to see companies that haven't released an MMO stripped from this list as MMO company implies they have made at least one.
I too have recieved superb service from Turbine, onfatc the best service I've recieved from any company in any field for a long time.
But I do think compamnies that haven't produced an MMo themselves should be on this list, I (along with a lot of my kin) had lifetime accounts in Europe with maxed out characters for LOTRO but due to the appualing service by Codemasters, jumped ship and started new characters, new subscription etc with Turbine on the UIS server. Have never looked back, best descision I ever made.
Companies who treat their customers wuith the contempt Codemsater has done, deserve to be named and shamed, and ones that treat their customers with respect etc, deserve to be praised, whether or not they actually wrote the game. After all surely the big point about this topic is going to be the sort of service we as customers revieve, and whether the provider wrote the game inhouse themselves, or whether they are distrubuting it on behalf of another company, makes no difference in my opinion to this poll.
Edit, might be being an idiot here (for a change lol) and realise that maybe people are complaining because someone in the list hasn't either released a game yet or run one on behalf of someone else ?
This is like one of those pointless awards you see and think 'why do they need an award for that'? Maybe next year there will be an award for 'Best MMO Company Hospitality '
This is like one of those pointless awards you see and think 'why do they need an award for that'? Maybe next year there will be an award for 'Best MMO Company Hospitality '
I'm sorry but why is is it pointless to vote for your favorite MMO Company? It's about as pointless as "Most innovative game", "Best game of year" and "Biggest Disappointment".
Looks like ArenaNet actually does care that they won this award, as well as many others. Shame that even if ArenaNet truly deserves it, people will continue to bitch about it just because their favourite didn't.
Not that long ago, another company won over 50 of those type of awards, and thank their community much like this one.
The interesting part is that noone put any credience on it, tried to shrug it off as nothing special or basing it off half a game.
Then a few months later another company wins a couple of site awards based off half a game and everyone goes nuts.
Boogles the mind doesn't it?
I'll let you figure out the company names, i'll give you a hint though, the one that won more then 50 (real) awards started with the same letter as blizzard.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Wondering how Bioware made it on the list since they have not to date produced a single MMO.
Nor has Trion, but they are producing one (Trion even three). So it is an MMO company. Like a factory that is producing cars. It still a car factory even if nothing from that factory has been released or sold.

it really would be different but I would still vote for them, and always will. Besides it may be a little of the fanboi talking but please how Anet has handled the info they are releasing and letting us see a lot of gameplay videos is beyond great, Their philosophy alone is why they are good. The fact that they follow it makes them great
It's funny how hype overshadows things that are actually concretely proven. Good job guys, keep feeding the overhype/failtrain. I swear, some people never learn the "don't touch the hot stove" rule.
Man, you people slobbering all over GW2 is so embarrassing. Get some perspective people.
That is not why I voted for them
Any employee of them have to play the game they are working on for 2 hours every day, no matter what you do there. That is why GW was so fun and why GW2 will be as well, they are playing their own game and make it so they will like it instead of how they think will sell most games.
Good games are made by players for players. I am sure some players just voted for them because they are hyped up but ANET is the best company since how they do things. Not a cubicle company.
They are the opposite of Mythic (Google EAlouse for that story), someone who realized that if you make a game that is fun for you it will sell fine.

I hadn't seen the bottom video yet. It was very intresting and I forwarded it to my friends. Thank you very much for the post

CCP gets a respectable 12% of the votes which is pretty damn good in book.
...in *my* book.
doh!
I probably would have reserved my vote for a company that has actually published an MMO.

I wonder how many people who voted for their picks have played an MMO by the company? Less then half?
I'm very surprised Turbine was second and Trion third. I don't understand why companies without an MMO out should even be listed :P.

I have a soap box and I am not afraid to use it.
Thanks for this link Especially the Q&A in the end answered a lot of my questions.
And yay for Anet
Nor has Trion, but they are producing one (Trion even three). So it is an MMO company. Like a factory that is producing cars. It still a car factory even if nothing from that factory has been released or sold.
A company that has never made an mmo wins 'favorite mmo company'. And nobody finds that strange.
it really would be different but I would still vote for them, and always will. Players are just voting for the company that makes the MMO they play, thats why it is so pointless.
