MMORPG's or MMOG's with first-person fighting?

RYL is the only one with first-person fighting that I know of--are there any other's?

I expected Guild Wars to be, but was disappointed when I logged in and found it to be just another click-and-watch.

Really!  I like to be right in the action, and I have no interest in click-and-watch, except rarely when I'm playing RYL and just need to make a few kills to get to the next level for some upgrades, then I switch to click-and-kill and have something cold to drink while my character does all the work :-)

Actually, I wish RYL would get rid of the click-and-watch option because it's not interesting dueling someone who's not controlling their character.

Also, it's kind of strange when you're in a group with someone and looking the same way they are to see which animal to attack next and then they actually attack an animal behind them because they're in click-and-watch.

We need to come up with new terms for multi-player immersion games, but I guess the owners of this site might not like that, lol.

Note to self:  register mpig.com -- darn, already taken.

I wish there was a true, persistant world, first-person role playing game without the 'click and watch' aspect, but I do not think our technology can handle something like that at this time. Maybe give us three or four more years and we can do some funky stuffs. Until then, we can all wait for single player games that will hopefully be like that such as Oblivion ;). Fable: The Lost Chapters, is coming to the computer this year, I believe- it has something like 25% more content than the original version for the xbox and even graphical/ sound upgrades if I recall correctly.

There's one that's coming out that has first person fighting. Like Morrowind's combat but more sophisticated.

It's called Roma Victor. And yes, the hardware can support such a game. BF1942 could do it, couldn't it?

Looking forward (cautiously) to: Age of Conan, Dark Solstice, Armada Online.

    Will soon try: Guild Wars

Overall: Amazed and bewhildered at the current sad state of the artform of gaming.

Battlefield 1942 isn't a persistent world with thousands of players running about in it with hundreds of thousands of NPCs and hundreds of thousands of events occuring every second. Also, it does not have player customization or even any of the rudimentary aspects of even the most simple RPGs.

Thanks for the Roma Victor mention- I'll go check it out.

World War II Online. Half scale map of Europe, most major cities (Antwerp, Brussels, Dunkirk, etc.) 3 differnet countries (UK, France vs. Germany (US and Italy to come, with the French using alot of American equipment)). Persistant world, the campaigns usually last 2 months or more. Not just a FPS infantry game, there is also tons of armor, planes and ships to chose from.

It has a step learning curve, but if you ask arond on the forums here or if you join and use the forums at www.wwiionline.com and people will give you links to tons of training aids. Give it a try or wait until Beyond Blitzkrieg (rerelease) hits shelves in this summer.

Either I don't understand your post or you didn't understand mine.  RYL has it now, you can play either first-person or click-and-watch just by hitting the esc key.  Also There is first-person with shooting--of course, it's just paintball.

You can experience Guild Wars in first-person, just not the fighting, which is, of course, the part you DO want to experience first person.

I'm looking for any others worth checking out.

Project Entropia has first-person view, and you have to aim guns properly.

    Planetside anyday.

It is the best MMOFPS out there i know of.

The other is probably WW2 online but i found it very boring the map is just too big and i found myself running for hours to get to a battle or find an enemy and death is too quick.

Yes WW2 online is more realistic but it is very boring.Go with planetside .You find the action very fast and get shooting .

Yeah Im looking forward to hand to hand/melle that isnt based on "you do 24 points of damage to the orc" etc etc

If anyone played "Die by the sword" or "Blade of Darkness" then you can see there are other ways to acheive exciting melle combat that dont have anything to do with a recurring maths lesson floating above your targets head.

    Cmon devs use your imagination!

Everquest has it and always did, as well as Anarchy Online. You can see your weapons swing or hands as you cast a spell. Funny how the 2 of the oldest games have it and do it right and 90% of the newer "3rd gen" ones get it wrong.

Yeah wave but the point is....

They are still turn based/points based. Not skill based...

    Face of Mankind

skill-based-twitch-style MMORPGFPS (yes RPG and FPS that fits like a glove)

100x better than neocron and 10x better than planetside, and it's still in early beta and doesn't have much content, infact 99% of the content is PLAYER CONTENT! And the Devs setup an event each saterday to help the beta-story along.

be warned this game isn't for the faint hearted.

When was the last time u played WWIIOL. They added Mobile spawns and Attack objectives so if you cant find a battle nowadays, something is seriously wrong. Next free trial check it out again.

Wow, there's more than I thought--I've got some games to check out.

The only one mentioned that I've played is Anarchy Online--it has first-person fighting?  Didn't see it--all I saw was click-and-watch.  How do you switch to first-person mode?

Anarchy Online can give you the First Person View but it is not a FPS

Anarchy Online is based up current powers, spells, weapons, levels, etc

A true FPS require your real time actual skill of using your mouse, keypad, or controller to dodge and eliminate your enemies.

However, Anarchy Online is a good mmorpg and even better because the original is 100% free (including no monthly fees)

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Ok the point of the FPS behind the MMORPG is to introduce skill into PVP so the game does not become boring so fast. I think only one game nailed PVP and that was UO. EQ ruined online gaiming by destroying PVP. I have never gotten bored of games as I do now. AI is just no fun.

I think any game which uses the Counter-Strike style of movement and damage modeling will do well as long as they keep the RPG aspect involved (Planetside fu*ked this one up) which is what people are paying that monthly fee for.

So yeah these game companies need to grab their nut sacks and make a game that is skill based and realistic. When you die your shit is on the ground. so on and so fourth...
