Questions about building a character

Ok, so im still pissed off at SOE, and I think this game is going to fail and wont be worth the monthly subscription for a long time.  It will probably end up going F2P within 6 months.   But the MMO market is very stale, and I want to try something new.  And all this superhero stuff brings back memories from when I was younger, so I want to give it a try.  Still waiting for that explanation from SOE though.

I really only have one question though:

1) When you choose a weapon, is that the ONLY weapon you use the whole entire game?

For ex: is it possible to have a character that uses dual pistols AND a rifle, or dual pistols AND h2h?

This might not seem like a big deal, but its a deal breaker for me in a superhero type game.  Ive tried out COH and CO this week and the amount of customization is INSANE.  It seems like people are suggesting this game is more of an action MMO, with very few RPG elements to it.  Do you forsee this being a problem in the game?

You can choose a secondary weapon set. Points for weapons are considered "skill points", and they also apply to your movement power Tree. In Theory, you could have two weapon sets pretty well fleshed out, especially if you ignore the Movement Tree.

My recommendation is not to do this. Get a second spec all together. Two weapons in one spec is both pointless and a waste of skills. Every power has two specs they can use, Damage and Tank/Healer/Controller.

Thanks guys for answering.  If I get the game, i'll play for the first few days just trying to figure out how it works, and then re-roll my real character.

So are the 2 specs similar to how WOW made it where when in town you can switch spec so you can have one loaded for PVE and one for PVP?

Two weapons is hardly useless, Each Weapon Style, long with yout Travel Type, just like your power Set, has a selection of things to put your points.  Well weapons have the largely unique honor of giving you stat bonuses in each Weapon style.  While you many only use a single weapon type, it's great to dip into another weapon style if nothing else than it's stat bonuses.  If you do feats you should have more than enough skill points to do this easily.

Okay, practical answer here.  Yes, you will have more than enough skill points to learn two weapons if you choose.  Realistically, however, you won't be swapping them out on the fly.  You need to do that manually.  And combat is FAST.  Also, while you invest in other weapons trees to get the passive bonuses to various stats, you only take the basic skills to get there and then buy the big bonuses.  Fully specing a second weapon would cost you about 8 skill points that don't contribute passively at all, and so you'd be gimped to that extent against anyone who simply specialized.

That's the bad news.  The good news is that yes, you can respec as required.  So you aren't stuck with the weapon you go in with if you don't like it.

The bad news again is that respecs are expensive.  You'll be able to correct early mistakes if you change your mind, but don't expect to be specing in and out of the daily build based on what you feel like today.

    Hope that helps.
