Q regarding weapon/power combos

ww99www99w Member UncommonPosts: 12

Do you get the same skills for each combination?

ex.   Fire + gun, shoot fireball from gun. Fire + staff , shoot fireball from staff. (same)

Or will there be special skills for each combination?

ex.  Fire + gun, shoot fireball from gun. Fire + staff, fiery sweep attack.

Power sets affect some animations associated with your weapons, but otherwise they are seperate.  In other words, if you are using a bow, your combos and basic attacks (leaving aside powers) will be the same regardless of whether you are a fire user, ice, nature, etc.

Note that the way you combine your powers and weapon sets in terms of strategy is much more interdependent.  Learning to use powers and weapon combos in effective balance with one another is a big part of the game.  Unlike other MMOs where you just turn on auto attack and then your strategy is reduced to which skills you want to use when, you are contantly moving, using weapons combos off the mouse (if on PC controls) and also activating powers.  It's a lot to do at once.  And it's great fun when it works well.

But no, your weapons combos are not uniquely adapted to your powerset.  Just the strategy, with a bit of graphical flourish at times.

You will find powers will be less and less a concern as you lvl up.  SoE wrecked the PC UI to make it fit the consule market, so you are limited to 6 slots in your power tray  (I kid you not).  So you will not have that many powers to choose from in a battle.  Most of your 'action' will be the weapon attacks.

Game is so shallow that you will max level within a few days, so you can see most of the powersets in a couple weeks.  Granted, there are only 6 sets to choose from anyway.

You can tell he doesn't like the game.

everyone said how limiting slots in guild wars was great and created strategy and diferences.  Now that Dcu does it they say it is lame.

move on with your life SOE isn't evil

    Meh.

Although most people would agree that SoE is indeed evil.  Well....greedy and willing to charge people for a game with huge design flaws, many bugs, unbalanced powers and so on.  Come to think of it, that doesn't really narrow down which SoE game we are talking about.  :P

But on topic, most agree that the game is very crippled by forcing the PC UI into a consule format.  No one that I beta'd with is going to buy this game, most for that reason.

    But its your money.

I keep on seeing you say most yet don't see anyone agreeing with you or saying the same thing you are.

I begining to thing that most = just you

You do get 6 power slots, which is more than enough.   Some powers you will find you really don't use, and just get them to move down the tree (I did anyway) for the big one.

Back to the first question, you will see some very different animations depending on your weapon power choice, but you were right that you will shoot fire from your gun or staff depending on what you chose.  One of my favorites was from the 1handed ranged power attack.  Rather than you firing from the weapon you gather energy in your hand and release it.  Basically chucking a fireball :)

Is it really so hard to confine your criticisms of the game to either (a) threads which ask for your opinions or else (b) threads you create for that purpose?  Considering that you can create any number of threads just to talk about what you don't like, I'd imagine you can leave the genuine questions alone, can't you?  Or are you really so buthurt over a game you don't even want to play that you have to interfere with other people's attempts to inform themselves about the game?

Dude asked a question.  It wasn't an invitation to immediately segue into your issues with the game.  Either attempt to give a genuine answer or move on.
