My STO experience.

Ok, here's a review, this one is for the devs of this game. I can care less to anyone esle who wants to play this or wants to be a fanboy.. It's my experience of playing a game, I am not a Star Trek fan nor a foe.. I am a gamer, who will play almost anything, i have played thousands of games, and watched them erode over the last few years and erosion this title reaps.

I created a character., probably was more attached to creating a character then I ever got in the game.. Game really delivers no immersian into your own character, you feel alone as ever, with these supposed aids to make you a worthly captain... Who cares, I just want to waste time after work, blow a few things up and have some fun.

I play this game, and it was slow, very slow at first, taking me into the ground attacls.. I dealt with it figuring it was trying to teach me things slowly...

What I learned, was this game is a horrible experience to learn.. One of the most pathetic examples of learning into a MMO I have ever dealt with and I have played em all... They were taking me to places to learn, but learning I was not.. I still dunno what the heck im suppose to train on my character, nor do i want to learn at this point..

So i bassically was just having fun flying around doing the quests and blowing stuff up.. Basically it was playing pirates of the burning sea but in space...... taking angles, using your shields on each side until you pummel the enemies..

I started getting cocky, but i never really did learn much about outfitting my ship or upgrading things, or if i was even suppose to, but i ran into one mission where they just threw me into 20 enemies and that was the end of my fury..

I was never taught a single thing about nothing, about items or did i even get items I was suppose to add up to this point? I never had a change to do anything.. nor did i care to learn because everything was just crap..

So yeha, 5 days in, and im done.. all your fault in my opinion.... maybe your job was too tough to explain the little things..

Maybe you think go to forums and reading is what gamnig is all about (Your in the wrong business if thats what you think. a lot of us will do anything to stay off your 9 year old infested forums) and want nothing to do with it.. I am in  a game, i want to learn in the game, and i want to learn in a pleasant fashion like all other games succeed in teaching..

I dont want to flyh in a slow ass ship and hope i should be going here and having the proper credits and hoping i bought the right item, i didnt feel right.. i was afraid to train, i was afraid to buy anything.. i was afraid..

so guess what.. i quit

lol

I agree with your comments and complaints COMPLETELY. That being said, if you wanted the devs to pay any realy heed to your words you, perhaps, should have let your rage subside a bit before writing. Like I said, I agree. However, your post comes off as a ragequit and there are a lot of fractured thoughts that were off to a great start in explaining the problems in your eyes. I'm not trolling here. I am just pointing out how we, as a group of unhappy Cryptic customers, should express ourselves in the interest of improving the quality of games.

I agree, altho I did go one step farther than you - I actually did post on the forums and asked about the tons of things the (nonexisting) manual should explain...

The lack of sufficient information was one of the things we brought up during beta; not only on skills, but also on items. I find it unfortunate that they still have not addressed that issue yet.

Yup...you don't care at all what others think. I mean it's not like you typed out an essay on a public forum or anything...oh wait.

Awww OP cares, otherwise wouldn't have made the topic and then replied to someone.  Who needs a hug?

as topic stated, it was for the devs... seems you guys are so shallow, weak and pathetic, when you see something you think is down, you have to pounce on them to make yourselfs feel better.. have fun with it..

seems to me.. my point was made, and i hit the game review on the nose.. its a joke and you losers are selttling for it.. me, i delete the trash and let them go bankrupt.. i dont have to atach to anything, my umbilical cord was cut 35 years ago

Given the casual nature of the game, you would think that a lot of the learning would be done with some sort of tutorial. Even a help system that worked like a holodeck. The ops post reminded me of using trial and error to learn how to do things. It wasn't that things were terribly difficult, just not obvious and unexplained.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

yup and maybe it would have been done, if it was fun.. i think they forget the fact of the title is trying to be a game..

all these artsy fartsy creators and storytellers think they know it all, but when it comes to making a game, its nothin but cute poses and no gameplay lol

The tutorial is good enough for learning the basics, but once you got into the game the lack of info was vexxing. For instance, one of the common complaints was that there was nothing telling you how one piece of equipment (say a deflector dish) with one stat was different than a similar item with another stat. They game also didn't really give you an idea what the item stats actually effected.

OK, I'm solidly in the "STO SUCKS ASS" club, but LOL.

First, you're 35?  Please tell me English isn't your native language.  So you've played 1000s of games and couldn't figure out how to equip stuff on your ship?  Seriously?  This game isn't exactly EVE in complexity, and you couldn't figure it out?  You weren't taught anything?  Did you do the tutorial?

I think this might secretly be a CDF member trying to make us haters look bad.

     A couple of observations here:

First, I agree that ground combat is not a good as it could or should be. My number one pet peeve since beta was the ground combat.

Second, what you discribe as being unable to learn how to outfit your ship comes from a lack of reading and/or a lack of some attempt at trying some things to learn. Basically, I can think of now MMO that tells you everything that you need to know about how to outfit your ship or character. Part of playing STO or many other games is taking some time with it to learn. But seriously, how hard is it to put one type of weapon in a weapon slot and see how that effects combat? And if that doesn't make sense, how hard is it to ask for help in chat? No sir, if you were unable to learn how to play STO maybe you need to re-evaluate you approach.

And for the record, I have been a gamer for 40 years. Been a PC gamers for 31 years. I have played at least as many games as the next guy. I am niether more intelligent nor less so then the next gamer. What I hope I am is willing to take the time to learn things through the steps I mentioned above. Above all else, I NEVER want someone to hold my hand to teach me something I should have the guts and the intelligence to learn on my own or ask questions of someone else to learn.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Sorry but having to alt-tab from the game to google up the mechanics that the developers never bother to explain to you stopped being cool around the time WoW came out.

(one example - the difference between the various types of beam weapons (phaser, polaron etc.) is not explained anywhere in the game)
