Final Fantasy XIV: A Beginner's Guide to Eorzea

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone has been updated with a new player's guide to the game. Included in the guide are topics such as buying from the adventurer's bazaar, selling items, repairing equipment and more. The guide comes complete with step-by-step instructions and detailed images.

Repairing a Damaged Item

If you are the right class, and possess the proper materials in your inventory, you can attempt to repair a bazaar-holder's damaged items. Targeting the damaged item will display its condition, the class and materials required to repair it, and the reward being offered. For example, the screenshot below shows a PC offering a reward of 300 gil for anyone who is successful in repairing his weathered tabard.

I still don't get why it has become so fashionable to take shots at this game.  It's not a bad game...not particularly stellar...but not horrible either.

No, it's horrible. Fashion and meme's have nothing to do with the violent bludgeoning of the game. But I can see how someone could see it that way. After all, at least one million people think it sucks. That makes for a pool of one million people to take jabs at this particularly smelly stinker.

They are getting their 50 dollars, spent on this game, back in sarcastic pot shots at something that hit their wallet. By all means it's " OK " to do that.

I played the game, it really isn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be.  It's a bit on the oddly quirky side and might be dull for anyone who plays games more than a few hours a day, but it doesn't deserve to be the lightning rod for all the hate and angst and gnashing of teeth that it gets.

I don't understand why it's so fashionable to defend a garbage game that even the DEVELOPERS concede is a garbage game.  In fact, the game is SO bad, and beyond help, that the developers have made it F2P for what?  6 months now?

While I understand SE is WORKING on the game, and ultimately will HOPEFULLY fix the game.  ANY hope of starting this game in the current state is LUDICROUS.  Especially with the current crop of MMO's coming down the pipe.

    Hm interesting thought...

    Play a mediocre WoW clone

Play a korean teenage boy's fantasy

Play a superhero game that caters to the spastic ritalin generation

Wait until 2012 sometime to play a star wars game that may or may not be good

    Play WoW

No...none of those really appeal to me.  Granted that FF14 doesn't appeal to me much either, but it doesn't mean that it's far worse.  If anything I'd say it's about on par with all of the dullness coming.

Oh, and the game hasn't even been out for 6 months.

And people wonder why this game gets so much criticism.  This stuff was fine when only UO or EQ were in vogue, but it just does not work in today's environment.

It is the type of flaws that anger people, the lack of basic features all other mmos have strikes people as lazy or ignorant.

There is a sense that mmos are going in the wrong direction and we need more old school features, freedom, sandbox etc, but other things such as efficient, intuitive interfaces, smoother gameplay, efficient travelling and quest content due to well thought out area design, NPC interactions, or good party systems are not elements that players want to see go backwards.

And once you learn the reasons for such design flaws, it only makes you madder.

Like another guy said, it's just getting on the bandwagon. People want to hate this game. Obviously Squeenix is trying to make it better, they have already done loads to improve it whether people have realized this or not. The UI is a lot more responsive, more UI fixes to come, Notorious Monsters have been implemented, the retainer system FINALLY has some order, Mailboxes are about to be implemented, soon there will be more story quests and what not. Not to mention they fixed the experience issues they were having, which was my biggest issue with the game and the main reason I wasn't having fun. The game has all the basic polish and is at least where it should have been at release, it definitely deserves a higher rating than a 6.3 at this point; a couple months it warranted it, but now it's been greatly improved. I would say at least it's a 7.2 and at most a 7.6, so I'll settle for a 7.4 rating on this website's rating scale. Obviously not great, but definitely not as bad as it's been painted out to be. We've gotten all this time free, so that is a definite plus, and they say they won't start charging till the game is considered "good" by the community. Squeenix is working their tail-end off to get this game where it should be, they've even said some changes may be drastic. They'll figure it out, it's just the matter of time that will determine whether the game will experience a rebirth or fall into oblivion due to mass hate. If they can improve the game by GW2 release they may have a chance at retaining some players and slowly building on the community like they did with FFXI, if they don't meet that deadline it may be a year or more before the community sees any sort of increase at all, even if the game does improve.
