the reason for the lower hype is due mostly to the thought that this game is a vaporware. without this thought in ppl's mind, this game sure will exceed the hype of guild wars. this game got a very unique gameplay if you take time to read it which i already have. i am just disappointed that they have not update their webpage for years and giving ppl the idea that this game will never come out. but i do believe if it comes out, it would own. i hope you heard me devs

This is just flat out wrong. Don't beleive the under-hype. It has not been "years" since the devs have updated their website. The website had a COMPLETE overhaul and revamp just last year. March 29, 2004 to be exact: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=8212
Since that date they have updated the website with the Travels on Agon series, interviews, status reports, and DF screenshots. The last of which were just this past December. Additionally, the devs have answered Q&A's from the community in the Q&A section of the DF forums.
It has now only been about 4 months since DF released their latest screenshots. That is not a long time to wait for developer information on an MMORPG. Besides, one can easily say too much released info can jinx development: i.e. Wish, Dragon Empires & Warhammer Online. Those recent games in development had tons of dev interaction and released information until literally hours before they announced cancellation.
And, no, the devs don't hear you, they are too busy working on the game.
Hype without substance is merely froth and it soon dissipitates. I didn't come here to bash the game but as a potentially interested viewer, since I maintain interest in the MMOG concept. You cannot have it both ways: hype, yet a lack of updates or any news whatsoever.
I took a quick peek on the community forum and whilst some are still patient, a lot of people are grumbling - and these people have been waiting a long time. I recently expressed my dissatisfaction with the lack of information on DnL, and was plesantly surprised when I read an online interview where the developers admitted that they had not been as forthcoming with the community as they would have liked and resolved to communicate more to the community.
I would like to look at the potential features in depth, but I fear I would be just wasting my time. To me, someone with a casual interest, it doesn't look too good. The lack of communication will backfire because whilst the 2nd Gen MMOGs haven't really appealed to the PvP fan-base, there are MMOGs in development that have the potential to siphon away players.
Whilst I appreciate that there are people who still have faith and hope in Darkfall, you must appreciate the reasons why people are so underwhelmed by the game on MMORPG.com. Besides, 7.1 is hardly a bad score!
The 'busy working on the game' excuse just doesn't wash. To me, this shows a disregard for the community at best or a lack of interest (or an omen of ill news) at worst. The MMOG industry is a competitive environment and whilst a few of the faithful will stay loyal, the less devout will begin to grumble and look around for a game that will satisfy their desire. Admittedly, there isn't much on the market at the moment to satisfy PvPers, but that may change.

Oh kay, I have read the FAQ and the little that is there does sound good. The core of DFO revolves around player freedom in making their own choices e.g. a 100% skill based system and FFA PvP centered around racial clan wars. Of course, players will invariably follow their own dynamic, but at least there is a structure for PvP.
The problem is that there is a lot of 'good ideas' (froth) but as we know from other MMOGs that have either been cancelled and/or have had aborted releases that bared little resemblance to the original game (Horizons), there is a gulf in transforming ideas into reality. The lack of any information from the developers is a concern, especially given that there is precious to show casual viewers like myself. Yes, after reading the FAQ I do like the game concept and the direction that the game is heading, but I am compelled to ask will a product actually materialize after all this time?
It must be extremely difficult for the community to keep up morale when there is so little information released - even a simple 'Sorry for the delay in responding, but here's what we've been working on'. Sure, none of the community are paying customers and there are no guarantees that they will be, but I would wager that people who have been involved and followed the game for years, will certainly pay upon Gold release. These are the people who get other potential players involved by spreading game through word of mouth, and through forums such as this one.
In conclusion, some good ideas trumpeted but very little flesh on the bones, describing how these concepts will be implemented and work within the game. Still far too general and vague.

Ummm, did you even read about the game, or look at screenies. Just because a game doesnt have perma-death DOENST mean its like other games. Darkfall is the most innovative MMO in development right now. If you think its like every other MMORPG you need a reality check.

Actually, NOT having permadeath was a factor for me to stop following it.
It does look like every other MMORPG
Then go play Mourning.
Permadeath just won't happen in DF.
