Guild Wars 2: The Kodan

The official ArenaNet blog has been updated with a Guild Wars 2 lore piece entitled "The Wisdom and Power of the Kodan". The Kodan is a bear-like race that inhabits the northern regions. Kodan walk on two legs and approach ten feet tall. Kodan have a sophisticated culture that is amply fleshed out in this article.
The kodan do not claim any connection or relationship to the norn race, but some Voices choose to interpret early stories of a lost group of kodan as an explanation of the origin of the norn. If this is true, they argue, then the norn are failed kodan who have forgotten their place as judges and protectors of the balance, and that is why their true “bear” form has been replaced with a fragile, furless state. Because of this pressure from their shaman, the kodan often treat the norn as spiritual failures, possibly even a race moving backwards in the cycle of life, toward primitivism and destruction — and that even as the dwarves before them, if this is true, the norn are a race on the edge of extinction.

Back on the topic. So, twill they be just be a part of storyline or maybe a playable race in future expansions ? Too early to guess ...
the art of the city is inspired by holy citys of tibet.
the tribal shamanism together with its reincarnated buddism/hinduism views points at going north from tibet to the siberan tundra and its tribal cultures, where its still in contact with the tibetian buddism.
and then add polar bears in armours for sure inspired of not just stolen from "His Dark materials"
mix in some floating windpropelled icebergs.
And its a really interesting mix.
A really nice NPC race, and for sure a place i look forward to visit.

Can't they just work on some unexpected but interesting playstyle, like the mesmer, rather than races that are in fact nothing esle than useless skin in mmos. I mean like i don't know, theif, treasure hunter, witch hunter, throat cutter, bringer of justice, alchemist, medium... whatever sound interesting to me lol.
Because honestly bearman isn't really make me feel anything, its just "bleh" imo. I mean the picture look great and all. Also a lot of reaces tend to split the community, not good...
what doesn't you get ? How can NPC races split the comunity. Whats not to like about lore done good? It really just sounds like you are angry that you didn't get the 5 class release today. And about Arena-net not working on interesting playstyles. Thats so ridiculous that you for sure are barking up against the wrong tree!
I agree with jondifool. To be honest, if Eric Flannum revealed what he had for breakfast would be interesting to me.These tiny bits of info mean that the wheels are turning. People shouldn't complain about lack of profession revealings because I'm sure that each of Anet's employees has a post-it stuck on their desks with the dates of all reveals. Nothing can speed up the process of reveal (maybe bribe, but i don't reccomend it). Try to think about other things in the meantime (play tetris - should keep you busy for a year or so).

Pretty cool stuff, I'm a sucker for anything lore related.
I wasn't aware its a npc race, and nothing from my read can make me think it is thus my comment since i taught it was a playable race, just like the wolf race. Now i like the nature balance aspect of it.
Lore is interesting for sure, but let be honest it is just the base of the game, its not very important. What is important is what happen ingame, this is where is the history of the world. If i can choose from a super nice lore like The lord of the ring for exemple, and the fact Lord british got stealed and killed during of of his public aparition i'lll take the second one any time.
Can we eat the bears or kill them skin them and wear them as clothes >.<! i need some more info, im glad to thou that the wheels are still turning i just with they would concentrate less on parties and game demos and more on spinning those wheels.
