WoW vs SWG

UnojcUnojc Member Posts: 29
I currently play WoW and Im interested in SWG.  Im thoroughly bored with WoW.  It gets very old and in my opinion very limited.  Can someone compare the two for me.  I may change to SWG.  Any help would be appreciated.

I moved from SWG (after the CU) to WoW and the two are so different that you can't really compare them.  First, both are good games.  SWG is all-encompassing, which I enjoyed.  Someone made the comment that it was a life outside of real-life.  And this is definitely true.  WoW doesn't really offer this same degree of engrossing gameplay.  WoW is great for casual gameplay, but it is tough for me to REALLY get into it like I did with SWG.  In SWG, I was a merchant and artisian with some rudimentary combat skills.  So I had a large house, several shops, and made a decent living.  In SWG you can play the game and NEVER enter combat (although this is more difficult after the CU).  In WoW, you can't really play UNLESS you engage in combat.

So the two are very different.  Whether one is better is solely based on your opinion.

That is good to know, I am the player who would rather run around and do my own thing.  Like I said, WoW was too limited for me.  If SWG is basically unlimited than that sounds better to me.

wow is very one dimensional . kill stuff.

swg, though it has its faults ..there is alot more to do. i kept my account active after i was basicly done with it, for a few months. i still logged on to chat, mess around in my houses, craft. run around upkeeping and moving my harvesters. in wow, you cant really log on and do anyting but kill things. if your not in the mood to kill things, watch tv.

havnt tried it since the upgrade, but if they made any fresh servers id be interested to go back and live there awhile.

I played SWG from release until last week, lol, and I've been playing WoW since Open Beta.

SWG definately offers a more indepth experience with your character. Instead of one class, you can have a mix of various professions. For example, you can be a Master Rifleman/Novice Medic/Master Weaponsmith. I knew a number of players that were never involved in any type of combat, instead choosing to either run a business or getting involved in the entertainment community.

SWG also offers player housing and player created cities. You can own and maintain faction bases, which the more your faction control, the more planetary perks you have.

Having said that, games like SWG can become a little too involved. I remember constantly checking web-sites on current resource spawns, logging on just to make quick harvestor runs, going to city and alliance meetings, ect. You can definately start to ramp up time on doing mundane tasks.

Then there's dealing with SOE ^_^

After spending a year and half in SWG, WoW still remains to be an extremely relaxing alternative. My advice to any new players is to wait for a free trial period. Once the CU bugs have mostly been worked out, what would SWG be without bugs lol, I believe SOE will be offering their standard 14 day trial.

What do you mean by "unlimited"?

WoW and SWG cannot be compared vs each other. Both games are too different.

SWG is intended first for Star Wars fans. Next for casual players aka people who have only 1-4 hours free time each session to play. If you are one or both of these, then you have nice chances of enjoying SWG. Also play SWG with the intention of NOT trying to become a Jedi, but instead check out the 30+ other fun professions. (You will have more fun and less chance of burning out.)

WoW is intended first for Blizzard fans.

Both WoW and SWG are good, successful MMORPGs, for different reasons, for their own seperate, unique reasons.

I have never played WoW, but I feel that SWG has lost a lot of the freedom it had. I was a crafter and the Combat Upgrade wiped me out. My Char is virtually impossible to play unless I wipe out ALL his skills and start completely over. I hear it is possible to make a crafter hybrid work, but there aren't a whole lot of things worth making anymore. Entertainers are in a worse boat. They have only 2 usefull things they can do. If you play SWG, definitely go the combat route. Apparently it is the only thing that is enjoyable since the Combat Upgrade.

Having played WoW extensively, I have to see even a gimped SWG crafter is WAY ahead of a WoW crafter...its not an option in WoW. You HAVE to fight to get resources. Thats the only way resources drop...

Absolutely false, lol! I spent about 2 hours yesterday gathering herbs and fought maybe 3 mobs. By no means do you have to fight in order to get resources to drop.

Crafting in WoW fits the game the just fine. If you're heavy into crafting, then SWG may be your game.

I play both games. Both are fun.

WoW is IMHO for casual gaming. Tongue in cheek, with lots of insider gags (ever met Leon the sharpshooter ? ;-) . At high levels its highly repetitive. I see very little roleplaying, even on RPG servers. PvP is very active, but I see a lot of senseless ganking using exploits (semi legal) on PvP servers. Guess Blizzard will come down hard in the future like they do on Battlenet and ban a few 10000 accounts soon. Community in general is so so.

SWG is a game for the long run ... more motivating, more versatile, larger than WoW. More bugs too. Definitely has a better community and more roleplaying. SWG is one of the best games for crafters looking for an in depth crafting experience. SWG is much better when you are a member of a guild. SWG has a truely player driven economy.

    Have fun
