They're not really competing against each other, they're different types of games. Also, Blizzard will never release a game early.

I'm probably going to pick up both titles although D3 is a done deal and I'm not completely sold on GW2 yet.

You all need to get out more.

Which MMO are we talking about?  Not GW2 I guess, though that was originally the topic of this thread.

Regardless, the notion is silly whatever payment model is being used. The idea that Diablo 3 is being designed to compete with a crop of MMORPGs - which is a notion that people seem to be subscribing to, not just with GW2 but with other titles such as SWTOR - is a ridiculous idea indeed.

It's like saying, "BOEING ARE RELEASING THEIR NEW PLANE TO COMPETE WITH FORDS NEW SUV."

I certainly don't think they are developing D3 to single handedly compete with MMOs, however if you think it doesn't compete with other MMOs at some basic level then you have quite a skewed view of what MMOs are in their current form. Maybe it's release date won't have any effect on Guild Wars 2 release date but you can't argue that there's no chance it might. Millions of people will buy both these games and to say that if Blizzard puts a release date on D3 before Guild Wars 2 has one it's not going to change when Guild Wars 2 might come out is pretty naive. Any Blizzard game that is released effects any other games which are released at the same time due to how popular and big the company has become. They make quality products and are know for releasing games when they are ready. We all know this.

To be honest I will I will definitely be playing both games.  If you have played both predecessors then you will know what to expect.   But what you are arguing is that companies are battling each other over population,, not games. Blizzard shall not fear any other company because they have all the WoW players on their side. These WoW players will buy Diablo 3 (maybe) and GW 2.

The only reason why anyone would dismiss GW 2 or Diablo 3 is because they only looked at the name and did not look any further into them. Same with Rift , or SWTOR.  I would get Rift if it was sub free. I would never touch SWTOR because i think Star Wars is stupid. Thats my opinion.

GW 2 and D3 are B2p. the difference is genre.  D3 is instanced server play. I just wished they brought back all the standard classes.  Hammerdins were fun.

There is no reason not to buy both.  Once you have it they are yours for no additional cost , unlike the subscription based games.

I would think (Judging based on Blizzard previous defences) WoW will release a large patch of content around the same time as a release of a big named game. Diablo 3 does not come with subscription and time investment plans like your average MMO, and same with GW2, they expect fans to buy and other to buy based off of hype or people just looking for somthing different to play. Think of it as the new Assassins Creed or Madden, sure gamers will be picking up Diablo III and i believe that even if they were released on the same day, most people who are interested in both games will pick up both. I know I would Lol... I'm a nerd like that

Plus people dont have to commit to long term payments with either, its a one and done thing. Doesnt matter if they spend 5 hours on one or the other
