Hello all,
I was wondering if trion said how are they gonna address about faction balance? I was on the losing side twice(WAR & Aion) so I hope to seek some clarification on this issue before I consider getting this game. If not I think I'll just wait for GW2 like everyone else.
Thanks in advance.

Don't think they have said anything about it yet. Launch is still about 6 weeks away so there is time to see if they are worried about it.
You might get a better and more involved response on their community forum; its open to the public and a good source of more immediate feedback. http://forums.riftgame.com/forum.php
I understand that rift activity is based on active population in an area so that areas don't get overwhelmed once the majority of people have moved passed them. It would seem that this would also tend to balance the two player factions. If one begins to dominate in population size, they will also naturally have more to keep up with dealing with rifts and invasions. Of course it remains to be seen if this will actually work in a balanced fashion but at least the potential is there.
All die, so die well.
It ain't.
And tbh, it doesn't really matter that much as all the battlegrounds are cross-server and the open PvP is just there for those who want to gank now and then, there is no objective driven stuff.
The devs also don't seem to give a frak.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Well, in fairness, they don't give a frak because this ins't WAR. I see a lot of posts that seem like people are thinking this is a PvP centric, RvR game, which it isn't. The main PvP is the warfronts, and the open PvP servers are just there for that minority. A lot of games have this sort of setup; WoW and EQ2 come to mind.
If its anything like beta.
Roll Guardian at your own peril.
Faction balance is handled by the players who have a sense of honor, and pick the side who needs it most.
This game is similar to World of Warcraft in the need to balance factions

The starting "home" areas are protected for that faction,. You have to target the opposing faction and attack them for you to be flagged in your own territory. Once that is done then you are considered in PvP.
As you branch out deeper into the game you will come into contested territory where PvP is available to start by either faction at any time. Rift locations are also concidered PvP locations.
You roll what you want to roll and there will always be different numbers depending on the time of day and guilds that choose sides. It can be fun to be on an underdog faction as well so the server population will ultimately decide what they want to roll and things should be fun no matter what. If they aren't fun then you can roll a player vs environment server or another server that fits your faction population enjoyment.
If you plan to roll on a PVE server it dosent really matter about faction numbers. PVP server, well thats different.
WAR and Aion were specifically PvP games, Rift isn't.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
TO OP - There will be no faction balancing in this game. It was point blank said by the Devs. Their stance is that faction balancing never works and it was something they were not going to attempt to do in this game.
It's been quite visible in beta that there are plenty more defiant than guardian. The most visible part of this is queuing for battlegrounds. Guardians can easily get in within a minute while Defiants have to wait upwards of 15. These server queues are cross server so it isn't just a server anomaly.

From what I've seen of the game so far the more players=the more rifts. So a heavily populated side would have more rifts spawning and interfering maybe even including guardian rifts.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
You can never perfect the balance but you can iron out obvious and glaring imbalances. I have a hard time believing they are going to completely ignore it based on previous experiences. They can only lose customers with that mindset should it become a problem in the game. Anywho we are speaking hypotheticals here
Balancing and nerfs are bound to happen as it does with any MMO. Might as well prepare for it instead of rolling the most imbalanced class there is right at launch. You will only end up frustrated
I agree with you, but we're talking about two different things. They said they won't be doing a faction balance. I take this to mean, locking a server from a certain faction from joining or forcing players to move to another server based on imbalance. Balancing souls is another matter entirely. They said that they won't be balancing classes right away. They want to give players a chance to try out different soul combinations as counters to what people see as OP. That doesn't mean they won't do anything if one combination is game breaking. For the faction thing I believe they have no intention of regulating who plays what faction.
Ok
I just read it as faction specific class vs faction specific class. It was a problem back in the day in DAoC, leading to a lot of unwanted nerfs. I don't think they are going to lock the servers either. It would be a first for me to see a game do that.
Aion had some major issues with faction imbalance. Along with many other issues, I think it helped contribute to the merging of servers.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
Funny thing is I was recommended order and elyos and it just so happened that although in many other servers this 2 sides are dominating, but I went with my gut and was just not lucky enough with the server selections
