I might be wrong, but isn't it usually the publishers job to secure servers and customer support too? I would like to remember reading that frogster hasn't been the best at doing these things so I think that might discourage some from playing the game based on that. Much like how GOA gave a new definition to hate when they ran Warhammer Online in EU.
Nothing really new, i was playing Runes of Magic EU allmost two years, EU support 2/10, co-op between devs - players is 1/10, community is just sad, mods doing what they want....if you post something that they dont like...it will be deleted, do this twice ( like posting that you have catch a botter etc ) you will get banned and post will be deleted. Support answer only to tickets releated to paying methods, most sad is that if you want take money back for some reasons, that will not answer you at all^^.
But Frogster America is totaly diferent, for me its like 180 degrees. Example: Gift keys. Frogster US giving away for free 10k + gift keys for few MMO portals each time. Frogster EU: few keys at some silly contests, and those gifts are just useless ^^
As for TERA, i will play, im 100% sure....but i will go subs but on NA, there's no way for i will pay monthly fee for EU, coz as i know Frogster will be p2p + cash shop ( visual only for start so ppl dont get angry, after few months game will be cash shop releated ), and im sure that Frogster will go micro, no way fans will pay after Runes of Magic fail.
So TERA NA - p2p = 100% i will play, micro = 80%
TERA EU p2p = 0%, micro = 50%, will play for few months and see what cash shop will offer.
Either way, not such a big issue for me, considering I'm playing WoT, which is currently hosted in the US with a fair latency and remembering that TERA US said they won't be implementing a regional IP ban
Strange comming from europe i have a totally different viw on this...
They are the worst, they ruined Chronicles of Spellborn... so much potential and innovation lost because Frogster is only interested in making as much money as fast as possible in the next 5 minutes and has no interest in the long term..
Next to that in Runes of Magic there is horrible non-existant customer service...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
It will be hard for TERA if they go p2p, Rift p2p quite big communty, WoW i dont play but they have most paying peoples in US/EU. What next, Vindictus f2p/micro, GW2 comming "soon" b2p. Lest say TERA will come late 2011 with CB/OB, GW2 will come early '12, so massive amount of players will go there. So don't see any point/chance for TERA going p2p at this moment.
Forgot to mention ArcheAge / Firefall f2p...and few others that will come in this year.

I wouldn't hold my breath over Rift, I doubt it'll be much different from the Aion release. Much hype, then soon quite a lot of people quit as they realize it's not exactly as perfect or as much of the "ultimate thing" they were hoping for it to be.
Vindictus doesn't really have any effect, it's f2p and usually the guys who play f2p exclusively wouldn't switch over to p2p anyway.
Micro/Cash shop is a bad system, p2p provides for the best odds that everyone starts out equally and at least, on average, p2p communities are a tad better than your normal f2p game one. So in the end I don't see why Tera shouldn't be released as p2p, of course there are other games on the market but there have always been.
Agree with you that Rift have same hype as Aion did, but they have great community, Devs care what fan saying on forum. GM's are active and friendly in game, there are not like in other games " We're masters and you're just peasant so don't disrupt me". That i like in Rift, hate to be ignored like that by Gm's / devs.
Im testing TERA atm on Korean OB, i can say it can be like in AION. When i started AION in Closed Beta it was like...wow, it looks awsome, something new on market....after few months was like boring, GM dont care that botters taking over the game, devs dont care and ignoring players.. etc etc etc. For me if TERA will have great community and good co-op devs/gms - players it will win, thats why i will go NA not EU. If Devs fail, support fail and game can fail.

except rift is boring >< tera looks to be way more fun from what ive played of the korean version
Did'nt played Rift that long, but TERA giving me a lot of fun i.e. created new character and going for mob 10lvl above me with healer ofc, love the way mobs hitting with combos^^, our time was like 7minutes on one mob, we have died but still it was hell of fun.

Why would anyone not buy a game because of its publisher? Who gives a crap whos responsible for putting a box on the shelves?

Yes its usually their job to secure servers etc, lets hope theyve shaped up..
Frogster are actually quite good.

Dont know anyhitng about Mythos, but I have had no problems with their running of Runes of Magic.
They are a publisher with a proven track record, so I would have no worries about them managing Tera.
We will probably have to wait for open beta and release until after Korea and after NA, but thats nothing unusual for Europe.

Given that tera is not another tab-targeting game i see not much competition.
