Looks like Phantasy Star

After watching some gameplay videos I finally realized what this game reminded me of.. Phantasy Star OnlineUniverse. It seemed like it had that easy quest walk through kill stuff instance type feel of the Phantasy Star series. Anyone who has ever played Phantasy Star should recognize the similarities after watching a couple gameplay videos specially the Sith Warrior+Bounty Hunter video. I may try this game out if it has a free 30 days deal as well as a full refund.

No, dude, it looks like STAR WARS. Furthermore, it looks like STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC! That's what it looks like. It's going to be like that game, only online and akin to World of Warcraft.

Go look at Phantasy Star. The gameplay looks similar. Go out and buy a Dream Cast and play it for a little while then when you watch some of the Star Wars videos you will think you are watching Phantasy Star Online. The sad thing is the graphics don't look that much better then PSO lol.

What I mean is that the pve missions look like easy walk through zones like that of PSO. Like the only way you can die is if you fall asleep at the controller (which by observing gameplay videos will be often). Perhaps they can tag on a free case of 5 hour energy when you pre-order the game to alleviate this problem?

If i recall PSO well, you had a hub based area you buy and sell items (on a ship) then you could take mission based quests and select a area.  Then you were teleported to that mission area with some other players and complete the mission.  Then you were dropped back into the mission hub.

If i recall (without looking at the video and working on memory) thats how PSO worked, whereas ToR is an open world where you talk to NPCs to pick up quests and your objective is to complete the quest, which will require you going through most of enemies in the way.

Granted it similar in design that most of the mobs are trash and the only real important one is the end mob.  But thats pretty much how MMOs work.  As for the being too easy part.  No way to tell form here.  People actually said past level 7 it gets a lot harder, and that some actually almost died (had they not used the right skills) several times and did one or twice during the first 7 levels.

Most of the misisons from PSO are rail type quests, you get an area and you have to complete it.  Hub then mission, back to hub then another mission.  This is closer to WoW then PSO in my opinion.

Just for consideration this is PSO

and heres some footage (yeah its old, we'll just use it for comparision purposes)

When i look at these games other then killing a boss at the end, i can't really see anything similar. Different graphics, different UI, you have a chat box instead of a virtual keyboard.  Different music.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I've played Phantasy Star...this game is not Phantasy Star, this game is Star Wars, and while I'm not going to be a fan of this game and it does look kiddy, I'm not sure why this is a thread, or why you bothered to post it.

It's a thread because I clicked on the create thread button. I'm sorry my opinion about a video game has upset you so much. You say this game will be STAR WARS yet could you provide to me whats so much different about this game and Phantasy Star other then "This game is not Phantasy Star, its STAR WARS!!111!"?

I know its not "STAR WARS!!1", this is what happens when you compare things that are alike. Like you said it was a WoW clone and I agree it also looks like WoW+Phantasy Star

And yes, I did play PSO but it was on my Dreamcast (the original) which doesn't work anymore. :(

Man, that was a seriously good console.

    I don't see the similarity.

PSO = Teleport to instanced mission

SWTOR = run to quest area/goal from quest giver

The graphics aren't even close and the combat is not similar either.

This is like saying 'COD:Black Ops reminds me of Civilization5'.

Hey, maybe the fact that the sky is blue in both games reminds you of that, whatever.

I do have to note that Phantasy Star Online wasn't a bad game. It was actually a good game when it was released 11 years ago. Obviously the gameplay/graphics have moved on since but back then? Yeah, a solid game.

You seriously don't know what you are talking about.  PSO and PSU are not similar at all.   I guess if you want to argue that the get quest, go to instance, and get reward is similar, but everything else is considerably different.

The only thing that I would say looks remotely similar would be the character models somewhat.  The armor looks somewhat the same as far as art style goes...  but the gameplay doesn't look at all the same, save for the light swords.  PSO didn't really have much of a skill set,  much of it was about knowing the mobs and positioning, as well as what weapon you used.

Two very different play styles,  but I loved PSO and I'm sure I'll love SWTOR too.
