DC is way better then I expected.

Chat system sucks but the rest of the game rocks.

Smoothest MMO launch day I have ever been a part of. Game runs mint.

I voted it would be a success but I personally don't think I'll actually buy the game until a good six months into it's existence.  I played some in the beta and enjoyed it but it's heavy on combat and I tend to play games much "slower" than what is reasonable to expect in DCUO.

The end result is if I bought the game today it would probably last me for a month which would leave me in a position to not come back any time soon but if I wait a bit there would be more content as well as other games I anticipate on the horizon so maybe then it would last me just long enough to some of the other releases I anticipate this year.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Let it be known that the King has no desire to play DCUO. Mostly because he is more of a Marvel and Dark Horse comic fan, and he doubts they would include the Watchmen in their DC-kiddie-verse.

That said, the noise I have been hearing from my loyal subjects all praise the game for what it is. Many have reached the game's meager beginning cap, but they're all enjoying rerolling alts and part-taking in brutish player vs player combat.

I think for several months this game will be a success. I do not think rousing by any measure, but profitable for players and company alike.

There should be some major content released by March I, merely and self-knowingly admit, should assume if the wish to keep non-Station Access players paying 14.99 a month. I am not calling the game shallow by any means, but it is a tad light for the value if you compare it to other titles on the market currently.

    So,

    Truthfully the King hath QUATED!

Will develop an original MMORPG title for money.

    Hi masked,

a little hard to answer your poll, I wish the answers would be a little more nuanced than "massive success" or "massive failure". Even if I dont think DCUO will be a "massive" success I still voted A anyway because I enjoy the game tremendously and it caught me totally by surprise. Opinions on this game have been very divided also, as you noted, and it shows us that not everybody will like this title. Still it should be able to be a fair enough success to allow them to work on it and improve it even more in the months to come.

And in my opinion they have had the basics very very right in this game + it's different from the rest of the market. Unless it turns to be boring and repetitive for many of us in a month or two (and that we cannot be totally sure about yet), I really see it keeping a good base of players and fans. There are many things there for either casuals or hardcore, PvErs and PvPers, solo or multiplayer fans in this game. Let's see how it turns out :)

Anyway cheers to other MMORPGers who enjoy this title and see you guys in game :)

Pretty much all MMO's have waiting que's for them after release.  Aion used to have 3-4 hour wait times for weeks after it was released, now the rumor is there merging the servers for a second time due to low populations...    So the que time for a newly released MMO means nothing, other then a lot of curious people want to try it out.

From my experience in beta the game was made primarily for consoles, then ported over to the PC...   My personal opinion is the game will do good for 3-4 months and then will see a big drop off in subscriptions.   But a lot of it depends on how fast they can introduce new content.    If it takes 8-12 months to put in new content then there in trouble.

Yah, the massive publicity and the orgy of pro-DCUO this site has been cranking out has resulted in a big launch.

However,  the shallowness of the game, the worst interface I have EVER seen in an MMO, and the end game bugs will cause most folks not to resub, or only resub one month to max out a few toons before they leave.

I'm not sure if this is going to hit AoC numbers out of the gate, but the crash afterwards should be just as spectacular.

This game will end up in the bargin bin at the back of the store soon, THEN it might be worth the money to play.

What you are doing is like showing someone a picture of an average looking girl and asking people, is she 10 out of 10 supermodel or a 1 out of 10 freak.

This game will do ok-ish. It has plenty of positive and negative press. Forcing people to pick an extreme answer when the realistic answer should be somewhere in the middle is pointless.

SoE didn't communicate this game right to the console players who don't know about MMOs, I think. They think they are playing Arkham Asylum as a standalone type that's free.

They have this game that has Batman/Superman on the cover like countless other number of console games on the shelf. They put it in places like Gamestop and anywhere else consoles are mainly sold. The game says "PS3" on it (least that's what the customer sees who owns a PS3). He's seen the commercials just like he saw the Dragon Age, CoD, etc on the T.V. but this guy never even HEARD of a MMO in his life.

So he picks it off the shelf, spins it around and says "Cool.. I'll give it a try" and goes to play. The sales schmuck of a employee DOESN'T tell him it's a "MMO" and there's a monthly fee of $15/mo (cause that's not his job) and the guy buys it takes it home and plugs it into his PS3.

Credit card necessary... this is where it gets tricky. He either sees the 15 fee and thinks its a one time yearly fee (because no Batman/Superman PS3 game ever costs that much to play each month) or it's some clueless kid's parents with a CC that isn't reading anything either. They gave the kid the number to punch in on a piece of paper because they are watching "Housewives of Beverly Hills" thinking the same thing; one time fee.

The first month is free so the servers are jammed and people love the game. (it's addictive fun early) and they like it.

The thing is.. when the bill for next month shows on the C.C., does the kid's parents freak and cancel and the guy says "Hell No, I got a cellphone bill to pay" or do they both keep subbing.

That is the question. People on these boards and in the industry know what type of game it is so they aren't shellshocked by a $15/mo. We pay that easily for the most part or even sub TWO mmos.

I think it's going to be funny when people start calling SoE next month complaining that their console game no longer works and they want an exchange or a refund.

(I was halfway serious and halfway joking so I hope you don't take offense here, but I think that's a funny scenario)

Personally I think this is a very likely scenario.

Before I made my decision to buy on PC I was reading a couple of articles on both versions.  I distinctly remember reading something featuring it on the PS3 Europe site and the amount of comments from PS3 players complaining about the sub was in my mind ridiculous.  It was like to them MMO's and the concept of sub fees was some sort of scam.  I also remember another site trying to get an open letter put together to complain to SoE  and to get them to change the game to b2p (...and this was from people who'd actually 'read' up on the game, how many more, like poopinjay's scenario, bought on a whim because it had Batman on the cover?).

Then it dawned on me that if you'd only ever played on a PS3 or were solely a console gamer then you really would be exposed to these sorts of things.  This would be news to you.  One of the things I hear time and time again from people who are new to this industry is the opposition to sub fees.  I can explain and try to get them to understand why they exist but certain newcomers seem to think  there being screwed over.

For quite a few years many developers saw console MMOs as the next holy grail, (remember Champions Online on the Xbox 360 anyone?), but maybe this is an unexpected problem that most of us hadn't thought of before.  That purely console gamers are that opposed to the idea of sub fess they wouldn't consider an MMO at all.

It's half why I chose the PC version with my gamepad as I thought the PC community could weather any potential storms like this better then a PS3 one.  If's very difficult to say a week after the games released and everyones still in a honeymoon period, how long term things will pan out.  Although theres plenty to do, I think the next content patch is crucial.  If it sounds exciting and taps into the DC fanboy then people will look forward and keep subbing. It would also be a statement of intent.

If it isn't? Well then long term I think there may be problems, as I can imagine only the diehards will hang around longer then three months.

You do know that there is essentially a giant poll on the main page.  It is where DCUO is currently creaming every other MMO
