The power of METAL

GTwanderGTwander Member UncommonPosts: 6,035

One of my fav groups is the Japanese band Maximum the Hormone, and I'm not ashamed to say I only found them out from the Death Note 2nd season intro/outro. This is them playing the intro to that anime live. Tell me if you notice anything extremely epic at the 2-minute mark (exactly).

Not many bands out there can get the *entire* audience banging their heads in unison like that. This is why METAL is the s**t.

I thought the band doing a unison headbang was enough, as seen here at the 4:05 mark.

No... I will not rest until I can form a metal group that can get a mob of people to do this as well.

    One of the things that prevents me from enjoying that style of music is the "cookie monster" growling that they do.  Second to that is the thrash style of playing.

    I guess I just prefer my music to have some melody to it.

    No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    It must be hard... you know, living with that vagina and all...

    I could see myself getting sand in it all the time.

    Cool guys listen to metal, and keep the pop music hidden from everyone but themselves... like a fat chick.

    The power of metal?  What about the Power of Love.

    All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified

    Hey man.. you may be able to hide it from everybody else indefinitely... but you can only hide from yourself for so long...

    Nothing better than a good metal song. Gets the blood flowing when you see a crowd like in the first video posted here. You know it's good when you are sitting in your easy chair and your head starts moving back and forth just like you are in the middle of the crowd.

    And I love finding unkown bands like this Amon Amarth video

    I know this isn't an off the wall band but tell me this doesn't get you going

    Now Godsmack is more my speed.  Weather or not GTWander will even consider it metal is yet to be determined.  Metallica however not so much.

    I forsee that some hillarity will ensue shortly.

    Nice noise. That was awful. Just mindless thrashing of guitars and banging of the bass drum. Poor show.

    Cool guys listen to metal,

    In real life, I think it might be the opposite. I don't think it's very often you hear metal music at a party where the ratio is any greater than 10:1.

    @Ilius

    Godsmack was originally an Alice in Chains tribute band, and AiC is one of my favorite groups from the 90's, which I am a child of. I like G-smack, but I love all breeds of metal even more. Gotta remember there is speed metal, death metal, black metal, and about 100 sub-genre's thereof. The original vid I posted of MtH is a band that is so versitile it blows my mind. They will move from metal, to punk, to pop, to hip hop and back in every song. I f**king love that group.

    @FarReach

    Depends on the party you go to. Most parties without live music play somehting you can dance to, metal is not dance music. The parties that I have gone to that had a live metal band had mosh pits and a lot of drinking/fun going on, with groups from Pantera to Everlast and Foo Fighters playing on the PA between sets. It's really about the crowd that shows up, on top of whether there is live music going to be there or not in the first place.

    ~I honestly don't care about others that say "it's crap", because everyone has their own tastes in music, but I will still say you are a pussy if you don't dig metal. I grew up in a certian generation that went to ozzfest every year, and still like hip hop and certain forms of techno (not that harcore bs) based on the circle of friends I kept over the years that influenced my tastes. I for one just want to move people as seen in that first vid. I don't expect anyone that "doesn't get it" to be in that crowd in the first place. Do whatever you want, we can fight over it in the parking lot.

    Chuck Norris listens to Frank Sinatra.  I dare anyone to call Chuck Norris a pussy to his face.

    Chuck Norris is over 70 atm. I could call him "lemon custard" to his face and all he could do is spit creamed corn at me.

    I won't talk smack about Sinatra though, he's got mob backup. You don't mess with that.

    It really depends what you would consider metal.  I would say I don't like metal much at all.

    The closest I get are heavy industrial acts like Ministry, Godflesh , Pitchshifter and the like.  Then you have heavy grunge and noise rock like Helmet, the Melvins, Killing Joke etc.

    But acts like Amon Armath, Opeth, Celtic Frost, whatever, no thanks.  I also can't stand screamo or any psuedo scenester metal either.  And of course I think nu-metal is just tripe.

    And it isn't the vocals, because I like Skinny Puppy and the like, which are very "difficult" to listen to so I don't have a problem with garbled gravely vocals.  I think it is the song composition and the sounds being used and the obsession with vikings or dragons and fantasy a lot of metals band have going.

    Really though most all new music, popular, alternative, indie or whatever is garbage.

    All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified
