Sony Online Entertainment's John Smedley recently was interviewed by the good folks over at Eurogamer. Editors asked Smedley about several of SOE's titles including The Agency. During the course of the interview, Smedley was asked about recent revelations that The Agency would not be released until late this year. Smedley confirmed the time line and indicated that the game would be released in the latter half of 2011.
"We're not giving out a specific date yet because we don't know it," he adds.
"One thing that we've learned over our company's history is that it takes time to make great games. And we're not trying to make cookie-cutter MMOs. There's some stuff coming out in the next two or three months, MMO-wise, and a lot of it is generic copycats of other games. That's not what we want to do. We want to make new experiences for people. So The Agency is a new kind of MMO so we want to make sure it's as good as it can be."

Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's
I hate to be a downer but listening to anything this guy has to say about games at this point is like listening to Milli Vanilli tell us that the next album they make is going to be better than the one they pretended to make.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I agree. I still don't understand he is still on that position and Sony hasn't canned him by now.
He's got to be one of the most clueless persons in the Game Industry.
Things like this happen when a company pulls most of its employees of their assigned projects to work on one game. It is a snowball effect that is affecting all their games.
And yet, I still find myself waiting for one from SOE, or one that had the potential to be great, but which they completely screwed-up.
Ohh well. . .though I dropped yet another SOE title like it were a contagious cancer (DCUO), I'll be interested to see how The Agency turns out.
I just can't see which group of players the Agency is supposed to appeal, frankly.
Didn't the people who was originally working on this game leave to form a new company ?
As long as the gameplay is smooth, the graphics are good and it's singleplayer friendly I will love to play it. I don't mind groups but I don't always have time to do long runs if the missions are long. I hope they get things right like they say. Happy Gaming.

Nice stab at Rift
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
The best thing they could do is sack Smedley, it would go a long way to restoring the public's trust in SOE.
-eternally bitter SWG gamer
Perhaps after officially being given another year of development, we'll see some new gameplay footage? Likewise, I thought the original development team left too....
Considering when this game was put up, and the original hoped for release date, this is taking the damn mickey.
Starting to think this is vaporware lol.. Was excited for The Agency back in 2008.

Unless the company is cryptic it generally takes a few years to make these things.

Maybe so.. but takeing you're time and delaying a game are two different things.. I think The Agency is on its 2-4th delay now.. I know that is the "norm" now a days but it still takes a lot of the hype out of a title, especially a game like The Agency where you pre order it on Sony dosn't even mention to tell you its not comeing out until days after the preorder date is up lol.

I remember SOE announcing that wouldn't delay The Agency development time frame in any way.
Which by now shows it was an obvious PR lie, or we just have a huge coincidence with delays and more delays after they talked so much about the game.
This game looks very fun.It reminds back when noone lives forever was released.Which it seems to have the same taste.Nice
