When I was a bit younger the concept of spending time on games was quite irrelevant. Though as I've gotten older and life has buit up on my shoulders...devoting hundreds of hours to a game is not a decision I take lightly. There are many MMO's out there, and more content to be played by a single person, so we are all faced with the decion of choosing. Choosing to either hop from one game to the next barely tasting it or comitting to one game and having a full experience. So we ask ourselves which game is the best because what we would really like to know is...what game is worth it? What game is worth the time spent. Our lives and time are precious; therefore, it's only natural to want the ways in which we spend of time to have a purpose. You can look at this is several ways. You can say that the fun factor for you as an individual is what determines if a game is worth it. Or maybe a game with the best community and group play, considering the only thing that distinguishes these games from single players is the online interaction. It's only logical to see that this factor is worth a thousand words in a game. Many games I have played here lately do not seem to take that factor into consideration much at all. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say many of these games feel like a large bland single player with the option to converse or trade with others.. As I come to a conclusion I ask you guys/girls. What game is worth it and why?
P.S. Please refraim from turning this into a debate about which game is better. I would just like to know peoples honest and intellectual opinions on the matter. Thanks

Well, it seems you want a good community, with a good game...I will give a couple suggestions, and everything is opinion, of course.
1. Rift - Seems like it will have a decent community, and it is new, so you could be learning the game with other people at the same time and not feel like a 'noob'. Trion seems to listen and work on things players have concerns about, that do fit within the vision for the game. So if the game seems interesting to you, its a decent place to look into, with a pre-order start date of late Feb.
2. Vanguard - Smaller population, no PvP community anymore if thats important to you, good community though, and now that its been fixed and updated, it runs a lot better, and is a very good PvE game, in depth crafting/harvesting, and a fun side game called diplomacy that is a card game that has quests and stuff. The bad is that it has the smaller population, SoE has kind of forgotten about it.....The flip side to that is that it is a huge world, and their are tons of things to do....So it will casually keep you very busy for a long time.
3. Maybe check out some of the indie developer games, one might look new and fresh to you, of course you have to put up with the pay for beta that is in a lot of them, but they do tend to have a lot of nicer people, that are fanatics about their game, and will usually have guilds set up to help new people, or find one that is releasing now, like Earthrise.
GW2/swtor do not have timetables, so can't suggest something that has no release date.
all i can say is, the game you enjoy the most, thats the one worthy... as of today im enjoying wow a lot and i think it really worth the time and money....as new games will be releasing later 2011 and after, i will try some of them and see which one i enjoy even more than wow and make the transition to any of those and then....that one will be worthy... if not, then ill stay where i am now some more
edit: gw2 i believe will worth my time for a long time, i hope i wont be disappointed
Great question and one I have asked myself and others many times. When I was young and had little responsibility and tons of free time I played the earily MMorpg's hours a day, every day for over 5 years. My Rpg of choice was Everquest 1 then Everquest 2. Total time playing these game is over 365 days played. This is actual time played not just time logged on but AFK.
Where did a year of my life go? I had some really fun times and still have a few friends that I keep intouch with still.

Today my time is much more valuable to me. I have bills to pay, a job and family that have take a major part of my time. Deciding to play a new game is a big decision for me. I have and do see many new game being created but do any of them do anything different than the past game? I also see a trend of game being rushed to market before their time. Game that have major bugs I can no longer tollerate. How many games have poorly thought our combat or a really bad Pvp or RvR that require major revisions a few months after the game goes live? Because of this I have stopped buying new games untill they are atleast 6 months old. How many of the games you have bought and played went through major changes in the first year of play?

Almost very game made in the last 10 years is the same. Your quest if you decide to accept is to kill [object Window]x[object Window] number, of mob [object Window]z[object Window] and return for a reward. It really doesn[object Window]t matter the reason. The end goal if the games have a goal is to level your toon to max get in a guild with like minded players and kill the end bosses for the phat loot they drop. Well that is what I always did, maybe you are different.

The only thing that seems to make this treadmill fun is when you have friends playing with you. So whatever game you decide to play has to push players to group to level, form bonds, and friendships. Games that allow you to solo most of the game should be avoided. Why play a game online if all your gonna do is solo. You may as well play the game offline.

Sure I am frustrated at what I see with new games. I had more fun playing 8 bit games in the earily 80[object Window]s because game developers designed games that tested your ability to think out the box. Graphics were crude but these games had great replay value.
How would this not turn into "which game is better?"
A game which is better is a game which is fun. A game which is fun is worth the time.

I balance my spare time heavily on the gaming side while family and friends get the scraps of my attention. Ahh the sacrifices a true gamer has to make
My time isn't more valuable, that I can't try out new things without researching them to death. I pretty much came to terms 12 years ago that gaming always will have a significant hold on my life simply because I feel it's the best entertainment there is
A game that is fun to play for you will be worth your time, and regardless with all the info we can research about these games the only true opinion to make a game worth the time would be your own opinion based on what you personaly like in a game after you actually experianced playing the game.
Understand that only YOU know yourself, you can have 1 hunderd people playing and enjoying the same game, but they all might enjoy different aspects of that game.

I am playing Iris Online now and it's worth my time because the GMs are active in the community and we have a flourishing community.
