Talking when its ready is all good but we recently learnt that things like Character creation is not ready, 4 of the classes have yet to have their advanced classed named, a bunch of species have not being talked about, open world PvP has not been spoken about indepth, guild management is unknown and there are plenty more. With so much not ready it seems unlikely the game has a chance of coming out in Spring 2011. While we would hope the game would be finished and now in the testing and polishing phase it seems that core elements of the game are still being worked out.
Seems like once again there is a mix of intelligent posts that show clear mature thought processes then there are those of big children that feel entitled and owed. Instant gratification and entitlement posts just show the universe that you need to grow up.
Let Bioware do what they have proven to do so well and be thankful for what information you do get. Grow up!
What is there to be discussed. Bioware from the get go has always stuck to their philosophy of not talking or showing anything until they deem it ready. If the general gaming public has a problem with that, then it is their own fault for the dumb topics and crazy accusations that get thrown around about this title. People need to relax and enhance their calm, John Spartan, when they see something that is being developed and have a great interest in it. Even though a company like Bioware wants as much input from the gaming community, be it, good or bad, info won't come out any faster.
Yeah, But I think they released too much at the same time and then nothing for a longe period. But I really don't see why people work themselves up for a game that isn't even in beta yet.
Lets chill and give the game a chance when we can try it out.
Beta testing (or BW term game testing) has been going on since summer of 2010
Game Testing for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is underway! Those selected to test will gain access to the game and be able to provide valuable feedback to help us tune particular areas of gameplay and begin the process of balancing and tweaking our content.
Game Testing is an on-going process being rolled out in several phases. These phases began with smaller, more focused tests with community members from North America, and later will expand to other territories. Users selected for the test program will be notified via email with more information on accessing the Game Testing Portal. If you’ve not been chosen yet, you may be selected in the next wave!
If you haven’t signed up already, it’s definitely not too late! If you’re not already a member of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community, click here to become one today! Be sure to check the box to indicate you are interested in becoming a tester. If you’re already a member, go to the Game Testing Portal to begin the sign up process. Note that you must be at least 18 years of age to accept the Game Tester Agreement.
Please keep in mind that there are no guarantees that you will be selected once you have completed the sign-up process. For more information about testing Star Wars: The Old Republic, take time to read the Game Testing FAQ.
We’re looking forward to your help in making Star Wars: The Old Republic a success!

Well thats something PaX east could clear up.
As for a bunch of species i wouldn't be surprised if theres just 1 or 2 more left to reveal.
Whats to talk about open PvP? they already stated there was a pvp server (we know how they work) and theres open PvP in certain areas. Sounds like Fallen earth style to me.
Granted there are some things left to talk about, but we don't need to know every single little detail of a game. Just the core aspects. Like is it theme park? what type of game is it? does it use quests? is there crafting? PvP? How does a character progress? whats the fighting like? Things like that.
Guild managment and the like aren't really need to know features of a game, and certainly can be released in a Hype hike release.
We about 3-6 months to go i think we are good on info. You could easily get everything you need to know in that time. We do get regular updates every friday without fail. Some may not be great but there is still easily enough time. I will grant you more info would be nice. But i think we have everything we need right now.
5 mins with the game itself a release on the NDA will tell you all the features you need.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Considering how polished the game feels to those who have previewed it at the different conventions, they could easily go into open beta in February and March and release in April and meet the hoped for quarter 1 release date.
This game isn't even close to being ready for Open Beta yet alone release in Spring 2011. Thats all I'll say.

This game isn't even close to being ready for Open Beta yet alone release in Spring 2011. Thats all I'll say.
And you would know this how?
It seems logical, that's how. In theory, this game will be ready in 4 months. But the reason they aren't talking about anything is that they won't speak about what isn't finished. Since they have spoken about only a few select things and there are still whole class skills/specs they haven't finished, it does seem unlikely that the game will be out this spring. It's possible they're hoping to generate interest through speculation, but four months away from release this seems like an unlikely strategy. I'm sure it will come out in 2011, but the less I hear about as the release date supposedly approaches the more I'm thinking it will be out later in 2011.
Nightfall, they have also said if feature A is linked directly to feature B and Feature B isn't done yet then they won't talk about feature A
Kinda like saying the guild management works, but the guild bank doesn't. Therefore they don't talk about the guild management at all till they get the bank working correctly.
They have also stated that they have a plan for how to release data. So while something might be done it might not be released yet as it's not at the point to get the biggest impact.
Some useful info on why they haven't talked about some features. Its goes more in depth but i gave you the basic overview.
It's still possible you might be right, just a few more things to consider.
Edit: I just realized that the link i gave is the same one in the original post, or at least leads to the same place, but incase you missed it or decided not to click on it, there it is again. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.

In this case, it is a good idea to be tight-lipped. Every time BW makes an announcement about the game, it gets a very polarized reaction. Each time that one of the developers or designers does an interview, something is said that winds up being controversial.
I have my reservations about this game, but as a Star Wars fan, I do want to see it be fun and successful. If keeping quiet and letting potential gamers go crazy with speculation will result in people ultimately playing the game and deciding it's worth based on hands-on experience rather than hype, I'm all for them just shutting up. LOL.
I think it's going to be released between June 14 and June 21, 2011.
E3 is June 7 - 9, they will release their new cinematic here and push it hard on commercials for a week or two before release. This time period will also be within their timeframe of Spring 2011.
E3 has been their benchmark show, and it seems very plausible to me that is when the big announcement will be made.
Of course May 25th is always a possibility, important date in Star Wars history.
Either way, a release date will be announced at E3 guaranteed. If it's December, o well.
I'm actually fine with the way BioWare are releasing info - I still remember the fusses over AoC and WAR cutting content pre-launch and players' ire over that can still be detected in some posts.
This isn't being a fangirl, but in life I prefer people to tell me what they are going to do rather than what they "might" do. I like things to be concrete rather than open to a bait & switch. When I go to the SW:TOR forums, I tend to look at the dev tracker and avoid the rampant speculation in the forums. I don't really care what player X,Y and Z have decided the game "needs", I care more about what BioWare tell me it will have.
As for release, I've said this before: I would love to be playing by summer, but I really think that the game will be pushed back to later in the year. Not doom and glooming, just managing my own expectations. I reckon PAX will be the announcement of a firm release date, another trailer and just possibly BioWare will give info on the end-game.
So, PAX East in March... Right! It almost confirms that they cannot possibly be ready for release prior to June. But I'm not worried! I don't bother to follow SW:TOR much anymore. As others have said: "No Expectations equals No Disappointments".
The other thing that bothered me was how so many people on the SWTOR Forums were screaming for Information. Just got irritating after a while. And so, when I can't even make snide remark without being gigged for being "rude and univiting", I quit going to their site.
See part of what gets me is that I'm not sure I want to play Anything with some of the people on the SWTOR forums. And since, by contrast, there are other good communities to be a part of I doubt I will be missing much by Not playing this game at release. It will be beneficial to wait for some of these people to "weed themselves out".

I don't think them being at PaX east says they are not ready. They could easily say that we are having open beta in the next month or so and release after that. PaX east would be a perfect place to state something like that.
As for the snide remark, depends on if they knew it was a snide remark or just being negative for the sake of it. I've been on the ToR boards for quite some time as well as other boards. I see no difference, you get a few that will hate every thing and some who will love everything and will shout the other side down. Kinda like how these boards are.
Granted the official forums may be a little worse but if you say something negative or snide then your going to get bigger reactions. Thats where the fans are, they take everything about the game they are following with more weight. I also don't think taking community boards is a good gauge of players. People tend to bicker and debate a lot more on boards then they would in game. In game those people are there to play the game.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
The fact that people are getting so anxious, even angry, about the lack of information on SWTOR shows that people are ALREADY getting attached to it.
That's the Bioware philosiphey that sets them apart from even company making an MMO in the last decade. Just the fact that it's Bioware and Star Wars will get people attached. Add great game play and great story behind that and it can easily be the face of MMOs in a few years.
Like David Gaider said "If people get emotionally attached about something in our game, it shows that we did our jobs"
