Will I like this game?

Allright,  I basically am looking for an alternative to take up some time during snowstorms.  Being I drive a sportscar and can't go drifting unless theres less than 4" of snow.

I like Sandbox style games with more options and I know that this isn't one of those but it seems like something I can pick up and play for maybe an hour or 2 and enjoy myself. I like playing anything thats fun and can hold onto that fun factor.

Combat looks cool. Seems a bit like Vindictus which I thought had cool combat but the rest of the game was just bad.  I dont like that heavily instanced type stuff.

Skills seem nice because you can only have a set amount out at a time which gives potential for tons of combinations.  Mind you I dont know how many skills there are in the game but it seems like you can be pretty creative with whats available to you.

PvP looks fun.  It will be nice to use skill and intelligence instead of a standardized rotation.

The World.  I haven't seen much of the world personally,  but the videos I watched make it look pretty vast. This is a plus, The bigger the better. (thats what she said,  I added that to save someone else the trouble)

Travel seems like it would be fun in general.  I mean how cool is it to have super speed?

I absolutely love DC comics.

BTW I've tried CoH and I thought it was crappy, the same with champions online.

Open to any and all opinions.

Sorry, you really have to try it yourself to know that. Some people here love it others hate it and what other games you like doesn't always help either.

Wait for the free trial and give it a go.

Probably best to wait for the trial, or at least how people feel about the game after the free 30 days are up, but it sounds like you will enjoy it more than CoH or CO.

1.) DCUO has the established ip, which you seem to like.

2.) If the combat in COH and CO wasn't to your liking, well, DCUO is quite the opposite.

3.) Travel powers are kind of a draw between all 3 (except for the grapple hook/webslinging in CO which was it's own awesomeness).

4.) PvP -- CoH only put it in as an after thought, CO is arena-based, but DCUO has full-on pvp servers and, at least having both heroes and villains means it fits with the lore when you go gank or get ganked ( '  ;   Also, not sure about skill and intelligence versus plain common sense -- seems like the usual learn2play if you want to succeed, just with more clicking.

5.) DCUO isn't a sandbox, as you noted, but it also lacks much in the way of replay value (like CO) making the main draw really the pvp.  There is a promise of free monthly content, but I'd advise a wait and see approach to that.  If the content updates are sparse, then can you see yourself paying a sub just to pvp people on occasion?

  • Combat is not bad but Vindictus pulls off action combat better than DCU.  However DCU has better ranged stuff with considerably farther range.

Vindictus is smoother on the combo and animations.  Is a bit tighter/better on the dodging.  Vindictus does energy management (stamina) much better.

But you will a get a similar sort of feel.

I have been playing this for the past week or so and tried out at least 8 different mixes of classes. It is simple really. If you a looking for a game that is all about the action combat then this is your game. You fight with mixing combos on your mouse and hitting the 1-7 keys for your special powers. The quests have you jump from area to area doing the usual and there is very little text to read. The class still have rock paper scissors since each class has bonus damage against another and bonus defense against another. Honestly it is not your typical MMO which is good and bad.

    Summary:

    Good:

    -Fast in and out action

-ease to pick up hard to master

-Plenty of combos to mix with your character

-Able to change your look without ruining your stats

    Bad:

-The bonuses to damage against classes are way to high.

    -Heals need some love

    -Most pets are crap

-Quests are basically the usual things in MMO

I say if you can spare the money it's worth a look. SOE did a decent job and it has lots of potential to be even better.

If you love the comics and mmo's then its definetly worth a shot, This game has alot of cheap thrills and wow factors the first few days but even after all that wears off.... The fun factor doesnt.

So really not a fan of this kinda stuff. Read all up on the game wasnt impressed. Watched the movie for it and it was epic.

So seeing as there is at least 4 months for any good games. and by 4 months we most likely mean 2 years, i actually got this game.

And I have to say I am truly impressed. I spent the first hour of the game just going through all the different customizations for my new char. wow there is quite a bit.

And playing on the 360 controller = awesome.....

It's nothing to waste my life on but it sure seems like it has enough enjoyment to get me through till GW2,SW,TSW.

Only thing I found annoying was credit card issue since first month is free and some banks make you call them to verify if  you pay a bill of 0 dollars lol

IF YOUR ON THE FENCE WITH THIS GAME JUST WATCH BELOW PRETTY EPIC

    1. I know some pen&paper role players who would take offense to that. Champions Online is based on the Champions IP, which dates back to 2002. City of Heroes is just based on super heroes in general.

    2. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the fastest paced combat, City of Heroes would be a three, Champions Online a six, and DC Universe a 9.

    3. I feel like the only person using acrobatics in DC Universe, everyone else uses speed as it seems.

    4. Agreed.

    5. DCU is not a sandbox, no, and it is very PVP-centric. The content at the moment is sparse, but I believe a lot of the content is supposed to revolve around hero/villain encounters in the main city area, which aren't very plentiful at the moment.

I'd say, give it a go.  You are a fan of the genre and the franchise and you think the combat looks cool. You already know that it's not a sanbox game, so if you don't go in expecting that you won't be disappointed.

It is definitely a game you can pick up for an hour or two at a time and accomplish stuff, and it is fun.

While i think we would all like to see more power sets, there really is a good amount of variety.  Power sets play differently from each other.  They aren't just the same powers with different special effects.  If you are an alt-aholic you may be a bit disappointed that you will play a lot of the same quests ove with each character. Fortunately, the variety in power set and weapons make new play throughs feel different even if you have already done the quest before.  I should know.  Between beta and live I have played 16 characters.  image
