Why F2p games never are good

ZtekanZtekan Member Posts: 261

Why arent a F2p game any good, or as good as pay to play.

First of i am like a Vine taster , i taste everything , but in a gaming manner.

Take World Of Warcraft for example vs Allods.

Allods isent bad , cuss it is a game, it has grafics, it has sound and so forth , like wow does to.

But Allods havent spent sevral milions on the sound like a Ochestra and composers, Allods took what they have.

Okey i admit allods is pretty solid for a f2p game.

When i startet testing allods i tried first the hunter, the hunter doesnt eaven have the sound of a bowsting and overall it lacks the sound, its bad quality on the sound and many noices are unsynced, or just not there.

So i quit playing Allods just cuss the lack of sound.

Take SUN as anohter example, bad grafics, bad sound, you might think otherwise,

Ive tried so many f2p games, and they feel amature made and unfinnished

there are eaven games that are p2p that have that feeling, but to compete with great titles, you need to have a big wallet.

Allods i think spent 10 milon dollar on there game, Blizzard spends 10 milion dollar on soundequpment.

So my opinon regarding f2p  are you going for the big game , you need a very huge wallet , wich no f2p company has, what small f2p companys spend on the entire game, the big companys spend on coffe machine to the caffeteria.

I never trusted a free to play mmo.The reason is because they are all trash.

If im going to give a last chance to ftp industry it would be for firefall which seems very intresting.Furthermore red 5 studios strongly said that they are going to change the feel of free to play mmos.Lets wait and see.

I guess most F2P games are under-funded, I mean you wouldn't take a small budget to make a P2P game unless you can see into the future knowing it will be a major success. I personally think that developers aren't trying to be original, and for the most part be creative and attentive to their games. Many appear to neglect their games, to a certain extent so they won't lose money.

Now then, before I pull out the big, GAMEPLAY > GRAPHICS > SOUND arguement accompanied by a division of points and fire, I'm going to go pull my experience with F2P MMO's. It sounds like the OP has never really tried that many free-to-play games, neither has Zefire but you can prove me wrong. The only problem is you haven't really given a reason why you think F2P is trash, which is a harsh opinion.

Anyways, since I'm a huge gameplay/fun-factor type of gamer (I could care less if it was even 8-bit) I never thought F2P was trash or bad at all. My first F2P MMO, is Fiesta Online (or Runescape, if you ignore the optional membership). Fiesta, was very fun at the time. Although grindy, yes, I'm only at level 90 but I've been inactive, it was one very fun game to me. The sound in-game was free that you can easily obtain for yourself, it was heavily cash shop based, but it was nontheless more fun for me than WoW will ever be (inb4 flames).

Personally, I haven't played much P2P games, but WoW and LotRO are pretty boring for me. I played the trials, and if 7 days can't convince me, I don't know what will. As much as I enjoy questing to level, sometimes it feels like I spend more time running quests than in actual combat. As "pretty" as P2P games can get, or how amazing their sound is, I can only compare it to release FFXIV gameplay. I don't need to be catered with professional orchestra, amazing voice actors narrating and bringing my game to life, nor do I need highly detailed textures to make a game amazing, since I find all that eye/ear candy. It would be nice, but it really isn't necessary. What's important is how long the game makes me encourage to keep my bottom on my chair to go do anything else in my life.

I have more fun on Fiesta than WoW was because of it's gameplay and simplicity. Maybe I'm too impatient, but I'm terribly annoyed that I can't attack unless I'm facing the enemy. I mean, it's not like I'm actually aiming it, right? Fiesta felt more fast-paced, your character would turn around and hit the guy, unlike in WoW where you had to turn around, target, and wait for your skill's cast time to finish to hit. Now, some skills do have cast times, but they are only long if you're a Cleric casting certain buffs or a Mage dishing out AoEs. I could also travel pretty fast in Fiesta too, raids (aka Kingdom Quests) were on various hours of the day (every 1-4 hours, depending on your level) and you can enter it from almost any map and return to town when completed.

There are also games like Secret of the Solstice, Dragonica, Warrior Epic, Vindictus, Wonderking, Dragon's Nest, S4League, and Wakfu that are favorites of mine. Today though, I settle for Cosmic Break. Note that all of the listed games are free to play. Also note that Dragonica, Grand Fantasia, Vindictus, Dragon's Nest and S4League (although rather old) I find are more graphically appealing, immersive and in some cases actually challenging (your skill, not your gears). The reason differs for why I enjoy each particular game (I'm also a pretty big on FPS gaming), but one thing stays the same is that it is actually fun.

Now, before someone says that P2P games are better because you spend less than a F2P, is dead wrong unless you want to "pay to win". It's true F2P games focus on Item Shops/Malls/etc. where you pay for items to make gameplay more convienient (faster, easier, safer), while sometimes completely ignoring the huge advantage in PvP and occasionally PvE. But if you have to pay more for games you see in the stores ($60), you either have a spending problem, you are desparate to have in-game advantages, or you're playing a money-sucking game.

The most I've ever spent on a game was $60, and that was on Combat Arms, so I don't have to pay the in-game currency for long duration guns. That $60, if I didn't play in Open Beta could have been used on a set of permanent weapons (you rent them, normally, btw) and I would of been set and enjoying myself. Anyways, I play games like CosmicBreak and spend NOTHING, but I enjoy it more than I would on subscription-based games, and in some cases, console games.

Now, before you disagree with me remember that my whole post is my opinion and my take on this thread. If the OP isn't saying that F2P games are "bad" for a fact, because it sounds like he/she is, but if not then okay, but my still opinion stands as is.

TL;DR: Read it, or I will literally negate reading your reply because I don't want to quote a part of this post to argue.

There are a lot of f2p games out there. allod and RoM imo are not the really good 1. Most player/consumer goes for the branded goods only mmo connoisseur can find those good mmo.

Well, i am a PvP Gamer, i usually do not care for sound or Graphics, as long as the gameplay, the PvP is a challenge.

And here comes, why i am against F2P.

All F2P games i tested or played longer, except one have one Issue.

You can pay to win. F2P games i tested usually have the concept, if you have low skill, just pay a double or tripple bill.

    And there it starts..

Its like a War, just the game producer can win.

PvP ..someone buys something that gives advantage...and suddenly a lot of people do, this thing gets standard in PvP, but u have to pay to have it.

Then another one says..ha! on Top of that standard i buy this and that for the fight..

It then ends up, that for a PvP fight..you suddenly spend a lot of cash to be competitive. And its endless there is usually NO Cap.

And this is the only reason, why i hate as PvP Player F2P games. Its an endless cash spam to be competitive.

This is, why i prefer P2P games with subscription. All are on the same level. A PvP Fight is decided by Skill or amount of time you spend in the game, things you earned in game. Not on, how much you cut down your earnings by spending a lot of money.

There is 1 game out there on the F2P PvP Market that i remember was and is different. There you just can buy Skins and visuals different to things you can earn in combat or in game. So by spending money u just look better, but u have no advantage..

    -just my personal oppinion-

what ur talking about is games like RoM or kitsu saga. Good 1 are like zentia or uncharted water online. When u play a lot of f2p then u can spot their cash shop system early in the game. Thru experience you'll know which f2p structure will suck a lot of money out of u and which don't.

Why do you think that? Do you have any good reasons? No? Because it seems to me how ironic your post is, if your'e a P2P gamer you make others look bad because you gave nothing to support your claim and don't even consider other posts in this topic.

There are quite a bit of good F2P games, if you aren't heavily reliant on PvP, RPGs aren't exactly the right genre for you. I have seen players who farm for good gear and can get better results than Cash Shop dependent PvPers, but it takes a lot of time and dedication. F2P MMORPGs I can agree are not suitable for PvP oriented players, unless the game has an optional subscription in which separates VIP content from free content. Taking Runescape for example, although you can progress better, you can't pull out any member equipment without it being useless (and if it's prayer, member magic, etc.) it can't be used at all.

As a player who enjoys balance, P2P games do well with that, but I don't play them which I reasoned why in my previous post. I would love to see some currently free MMO's become pay-to-play, because overall gameplay (pvp and pve) is remarkably more fun. The only thing I would be worried about is paying for expansions and how much they would charge monthly. I'm not big on paying more than $60 on games, call me cheap but I also have to think about my PC and other consoles.

    Let's see.

Allods - everyone pretty much knows what the deal is with that game. Cash shop killed it. They could have gone subscription with that game and been fine.
NeoSteam - security software was made to root my system just to play the game.
Runes of Magic - why am I not just playing WoW again?
    Requiem - endless, monotonous grind
*Picaroon - totally cool F2P MMORTS.
*Wizard 101 - total cool mmorpg.
*Myst Online URU Live - pretty cool but haven't seen any other players yet.
All Others - primitive interface, primitive graphics...turns out they are five or ten year old imports from the East.

That doesn't make F2P games bad, but it doesn't make them good either.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
