Got this in the email, figured I'd pass it along:
Greetings from Norrath! |
|
Hail, Adventurer! |
|
On or around February 14th, 2011 at 12:00 AM (PST), EverQuest® II will begin the process of merging the Lucan D’Lere server to the Crushbone server, with the goal
of providing an even better gameplay experience for everyone. Please check EverQuest2.com periodically for any further updates on this scheduled server merge. |
|
Preserve your Legacy!
As a result of the merge, some character names may be duplicated. Players who have logged in within the past sixty (60) days will be given priority in keeping their character's name (see below for more details). |
|
As you may have additional concerns related to this event, we are providing the following information (and have additionally posted an FAQ page on our Knowledge Base) in an effort to answer as many commonly asked questions as we can. |
|
Server Merge Rules |
|
Character Names
In the event of duplicate character names as a result of this server merge, priority will be given to the character who has logged in to the game within the past sixty (60) days; if both characters have logged in within the past sixty (60) days, then the character which has accrued the most gameplay time overall will retain its name. Other characters will have an "x" added to their names until a unique name has been determined.
Players with a character whose name has been affected by the server merge can type "/rename" in their in-game chat window and receive a one-time complimentary name change.
|
|
Guilds
Guilds will be transferred intact.
Priority for guild names will be given to the guild with the earliest guild creation date, with such guild keeping its name and the other guild having an "x" added to its name.
Guilds whose names have been affected by the server merge that wish to change their guild's name will need to use the in-game “/petition” command.
|
|
In Your Home
All items in characters' homes will be inherited by the home's owner during the merge. If you have alts that own any items, have designated any trustees to your character's home or if you are a trustee in another character's home, please arrange for the appropriate owner to retrieve its items before the server merge begins.
After the merge any vendor items in your transferred character's house will need to be re-placed in your character's new home.
You can use the house vault of the character which is being transferred for storage. The items in your transferred character's house vault will remain associated with that character during the server merge.
|
|
Vendors
Vendor Events (i.e. the logs of what was sold, to whom, when, etc.) will not transfer as part of the server merge.
Until your transferred character concludes a sale on the newly merged server, that character's Total Coin Gain will display 0. After that character makes a sale, it will display the sum of the total amount of coin that such character has gained on both servers.

Please keep this information in mind as you prepare for the upcoming merge. |

For seven years, EQ2 has been my game of choice. Even when I 'leave' to play other games, I've always come back. I've had some amazing times and met some amazing people.
Lucan D'Lere was my server. As a roleplayer, I'm appalled and insulted by Sony at the news of a merger with a Non-RP server. It amazes and confuses me -to kick us in the teeth with such a move and then to follow that with "We will not be offering free character transfers at this time". I have zero desire to play on a non-RP server - and I also have zero desire to pay $25 per character to move 7 characters to Antonia Bayle and still loose my guild, my friends and maybe even my name.
Shame on you, Sony. Shame on you.
In the famous words of a great 80s band "I made you laugh and you made me cry. I believe it's time for me to fly." I will not be renewing my account at the end of this month for the first time in 7 years. I've simply had enough. I wish those who will try to ride out the merger the best of luck - I hope the RP doesn't totally die, I really do. An MMORPG just isn't the same without it.

For the first time since EQ launched as of 2/1/2011, I will not be paying Sony a subscription.
I have long maintained they did one of the best jobs of providing tools for the roleplay community to express itself and even often supported the roleplay community on the roleplay servers... and listened to the roleplayers when they had concerns and provided in game lore that is to die for which is something the roleplay community as a whole thrives on.
While I often went off to play other games for a short time I always came back to EQ and later EQ2 because it was home. I picked up station access when they released it so I could go back and try other Sony games I had picked up but didn't spend as much time in and based on my math Sony has made several thousand dollars off me since EQ... I'm pretty much done now.
Galaxies I credited with being a very harsh learning experience for them and an epic demonstration of stupidity that would never be repeated.
Merging a roleplay server with a non-roleplay server will immediately destroy the roleplay community there or at least drive it from being one of the most publically active roleplay communities in any game I've played to being a corner niche buried in unrelated crap.
When I first read this I went... You've got to be kidding, they're not merging the roleplay server into the roleplay server... which would have made pretty much EVERYONE HAPPY, but apparently not-- "Lucan DLere is a roleplaying server and isnt being merged with Antonia Bayle because the resultant population would be too high." They're also not offering free character transfers as they did in the past with other servers so the roleplayers can go where they would be welcome-- "At this time, the mergers have been calculated to create population balance and density and thus, single-player character transfers will not enhance the outcome of the merge." You can google 'eq2 server merge' and find out anything else you want or review the faq they've posted.
My conclusion at this point is, Sony is basically too incompetent to handle any game correctly short or long term. I will not be picking up any further Sony games, because its a waiting game on them to just perform a nuclear grade stupid move to screw things up. I will also cease to recommend them. I canceled my pre-order for dcuo (eh, it was better than champions... at least till they don't get the subs and screw it up to be worse.)

Agreed, Lucan Dlere have been the best server community wise and while I havn't played for 2 1/2 months it still used to be one of the larger servers. Merging it into CK sucks, if anything should they merge anothe server into LD instead.
Rest in peace, Lucan. You will be missed.
Dude, while I agree with you that this is a stupid idea I think you are overreacting a bit.
This isn't worse than the RMT shops they added and most other copied or the fact that they sell a race in a RMT shop in a P2P game. And what they did to SWG makes this look like nothing.
Frankly, I think that the same logic barring merging LD into AB (resulting population too high) also applies to Crushbone. It is the highest population standard-rules server, and the 3rd highest overall (unless my numbers are out-of-date).
Apparently LotRO isn't the only place where you can find xenophobic roleplayers.
Crushbone is actually a pretty good server. I have played on it off and on for years. I have not witnessed Lucan's 1-9 chat but if it is anything like Antonia's then meh... Bane on Crushbone has been a good large guild (LGBT) I have grew up with over the years and I couldn't imagine being on another server.
they have changed this game soo much and most changes made it even worse than it was before **im speaking about pvp** after they made those changes..most of their subs were lost also..at this point i dont think anyone really cares..not to be mean but eh
To be fair SOE hasn't done anyting to enforce RP and frankly the RP servers are more progression servers and uber guild homes. In EQ being on the RP meant something, in EQ2 its meaningless.
There is some truth to that.. there are still a few people that take RP seriously though. Not allowing them at least a one time free transfer to another RP server is kind of a slap in the face. Totally understandable why people will get upset at this, but it is SoE we are talking about.. is anyone really surprised?
As a Crushbone inhabitant this makes me happy since we were left out of the initial transfers.
This also concerns me because I wonder how many transferred D'lerians will quit or transfer to AB leaving Crushbone still near the bottom of the population list. Granted, I know we're higher than some, but we are lower than many.
No, it's not anything compared to many other things they've done... just for me, it's the straw that finally broke the camels back. I've taken my kicks, my slaps, and my beatings in Sony games like everyone else but I still had a home... now they're taking that away as well. I'm just done, I've had enough.

I've had good and bad experiences roleplaying, ~finding~ someone on a non-rp server is the great difficulty because any public rp becomes a grief fest. On a roleplay server someone may or may not join in but at least you don't take crap over it.
Shadus
Actually LDL was the better RP server in general in every way, sadly.
Shadus
Not really... hoped for better but you get used to their complete ineptitude at managing anything. They can't market, launch, or maintain. They do housing and guilds well, but thats about it... It was pretty much that, another slap to the face after many others, but it'll be the last time for me. I'm done making excuses for them or 'yes but...'
