i have been playing dcuo lately, im only level 12, but feel that i get the "just" of the game basics. One thing that i have not seen, is an Auction House or a crafting system of any kind.
Am I just not looking in the right place - watchtower is HUGE - or did SOE just forget to include these things?
In every other MMO i have played, i use the AH and generally max out the crafting system. If SOE has no plans to implement these things, I dont think i can pay them $15/month.
Dont get me wrong, I really like the game so far, but WTF SOE ?!?!
Comments
no crafting but i read somewhere an ah may be coming. sorry thats all i know
This is an action MMOG and not necessarily a full featured MMORPG which generally contain the features you mentioned.
Its more about the fighting and less about living in a virtual world.

yep... because normally after superman saved metropolis in the comics he went back home and crafted shoes...
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
LOL, was thinking the same thing when I saw this, Superman loves to take a break from fighting crime to knitt pink sweaters.
Even I know they don't have a crafting system and I know nothing about this game
Anyway, they could've done what Bioware are planning - aka have your own personal slaves...I mean companions to do your crafting.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
Superman wouldn't make stuff, but Batman, Joker, and Lex Luther would.
To answer your question specifically, no there is no crafting, yes there is a *broken* auction house in the watchtower.
They plan to have the auction house fixed by the end of the month according to developer commentary.
Superman makes articles/photos for newspapers, no? That's a kind of crafting!
really? i hope your jokeing..this is far from a norm mmo anyways..nothing like a "wow like" mmo..theres no need for for neither..this isnt some game that relies on gear alone...if your expecting either of the 2..id quit...this game is a great console game and nothing more..this is a VERY borderline mmo..more like it own genra maybe like a mmoAG ..ag = action game
sry for double post but that would be interresting to see on the pvp servers lol ..the game is still better without both..at least for pvp anyways
Whilst I don't think crafting and Auction Houses are mandatory or evne fit in every MMO,rpg or otherwise, I'm pretty sure they could of come up with some non combat activities and evne some sort of offline alternate progression that would of fit.
For example Secret Identities where you perform small tasks or choose options to create alibies for your superhuman activities and create the sembelence of normality, actually I think an offline system would be perfect for that with some sort of seperate reward/progression system to keep it interesting.
And yet, the $15/mo a sub fee is no less....
Why people are willing to pay more for less, especially these days, is beyond me.
Then again, the free month is not up yet.
This game doesn't even have good chat, voice chat or a non-crappy UI suitable for PC users.
Those should not be included as "full features".
And they are not there, either.
that does sound great..but me LOVEING the pvp servers i really like the way you have to earn what you wear or even get some mates together to get the stuff..its what has been missing for awhile in most mmo type pvp..+most of the stuff you get from quests are far better than what you can scoop up and put on a action house..i bet most of the people that play and are still lower lvl dont even know they can save their cash to get decent gear in the hall of doom / justice / or what ever its called i dunno i dont play heros..id say keep it like it is...too many games pander to the masses and fold in and change their game..90% its for the worst
cash doesnt get u gear in the HoD/watchtower. PVP rewards or emblams or such do..cash is only good for purchasing gear to like lvl 8 at vendors and buying soda and repairing.
plz correct me if im wrong
Apparently, the UI is a direct port of the PS3 version, hopefully at some point in the future they'll fix this, along with the limited graphics options that are inherited on the PC due to the hardware limitations of the PS3.. all in all, they need to fix more than just the UI.. though fixing the chat to begin with would be a good start, as its one of the more noticeable problems.
You are right for the most part. There are some items you can buy with cash in the watchtower, but most of the gear is top tier, and you will need marks and influence to buy it. Midtown and Diamond district has some decent gear for cash, but nothing that you won't get from better drops.
Whats really strange are the gold sellers in the police stations now, selling cash. Theres no point in selling cash, it comes easily, and doesn't provide any advantage if you have 1 million and someone else has 10 thousand. What? You're gunna out-repair your gear better then the other players? Buy 1000 soder cola extremes? I really just want to slap those sellers.
DCU is an Action MMO, not a MMORPG. Just like Diablo isn't a RPG game.
Crafting wouldn't really fit better in DCU than it does in Diablo. Crafting isn't really a must for MMORPGs either even if it is popular and most devs add it, I rather have them leave it out than make a bad system myself. Good crafting is fun but sadly unusual in MMOs.
Some kind of broker or auction house on the other hand really would fit in and I hope they add one later.
They already have Broker/AH Consoles in the Hall of Doom and whatever the Hero base is, they just havent implemented it yet. Im guessing it wont be too long until we get it.
I just don't see where widescale crafting should be accomplished by all players. It doesn't fit the whole of the genre. I think it should be limited to some form of powerset..like the scientist/tinkerer/tech specialist types..aka. Dr. Doom/Tony Stark/Lex Luthor types. Villains or characters that are inventor types. Then they could craft there asses off...sell for money or trade for resources. I don't know how they would balance the economy with this structure..maybe provide other skills for other power sets that can generate certain resources that crafters need.. It would make it a barter economy for the most part. .I dont see economy as a major concern for a Superhero multiplayer game. I'm sure others disagree.
Your take on Secret Identities was one of the things I was hoping would fill a similar role to crafting as a viable, worthwhile alternate activity for character development in DCUO.
The dev team stated that secret identities were a "key pillar" in the DC universe, and also alluded that a game that didn't have them wouldn't be a full realization of the DC universe. (starting at 2:24 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF1FyHh5X5o )
Unfortunately, DCUO does not have secret IDs.
