I agree with this and take into consideration that he reviews the PS3 version. I doubt it would make much difference, maybe a 3 out of 5 but it sounds like he hates the core game anyways. I agree with the poor content, poor combat that feels wrong because it's not quite turn based and not quite action game. The horrible UI and how the skill descriptions are really bad. The questing becomes a grind and there really is little content and how you get to level 30 so quickly with nothing else to do.
etc.
I'm not sure why he doesn't rate the character creation bad, I thought it was pretty shallow and could barely customise anything compared to other games. My other gripe is how you have to load to enter buildings and how raids and stuff are only 8 players. Which I'm guessing is the limitation of the PS3 so the PC version will be held back.
There seems to be a lot of bashing on the comments about how he played to level 20, which was a comment on the podcast, though he wasn't done with the game yet. However he said he wanted to quit by level 11 because he wasn't enjoying it and only played further for the review. So lots of people are saying the usual "you gotta play till the end level" bullshit. IMO and especially in DCUO's case you can review your experience from any time playing. He has done pretty much everything and has a knowledge of what the game is about to review it.

I'm going to address each of these points because some are just wrong....
If you don't like the combat or something... well that's persona taste and no one can be faulted for just not caring for something ya know. but some of the other points are incorect based on limited playtime.
The ui and descriptions I can't argue with but it's being worked on... No excuses on this one it could have been better but they're at least trying I guess.
You do get to 30 quickly but saying there's nothing to do after that is pure nonsense. I've played CB OB and release I'm 30 and have been with multiple characters and yes I've done most the single player quest lines I still have not come close to "FInishing" the game. You get to 30 quickly but just like some other games that's not the end of leveling. You still have TONS of skill points to achieve. Yea powers define what your character does primarily but Skills define how good you are at endgame. Skill points net you innate powers that up your stats considerably when tolled out These are a MUST if you plan to finish the endgame raids/alerts. Not to mention PvP both open world and INstance although this is more of a repetitive thing and amounts to personal taste whether you enjoy it.
Some say we should get more levels to get more powers. But how many do you want. Any more and you could get all the powers in both trees... You only have at max 12 hotbar slots to work with one for dps and one for ROLE.
On top of that there are Duo's to do which are a nice challenge and require a decent amount of teamwork to complete. these Duo's (and hard versions of earlier instances) net you Marks to buy PVE teir 1 gear which is also required to do the Raids and the end game alerts (not all but the harder ones) they just aren't possible untill you get a high enough stats. They even give you a reccomended Dominance stat for whatever controller you bring.
I'm not saying the game will last you 2 years of playtime as it stands but it SURELY has enough content to last me till they release some more since the game JUST came out. Which at this moment is just a promise but here's to hoping (if not well then we'll talk)
On character creation. It's only limiting at the start after just 10 levels you will have a pleathora of new options to work with. I agree that the "faces" are limited being stuck to the skin choice but there are TONS of costume pieces I have on my character at this point in the game. The only limitation I see is the fact that 75% of players pick black and dark red as their colors... makes for a very similar community haha
Raids being only 8 a negative? That's double the amount. Most EVERY game is double the amount for a raid. Normal party is 4. 1 of each role and a 4th and honestly if we had 5 or 6 characters in a party they would have had to add a TON more enemies to each "Engagement"
You are right in thinking the ps3 held back the pc but.... it still amounted to an enjoyable experience in my oppinion
I'm not trying to fanboy here as I think there are 100 things that need fixing for the game to be right... but the points talked about just are not accurate There's a decent amount of content it's just not "Leveling to 100". Character creation is only limiting out of the gate but that changes as this superhero game you actually acrue items and costumes as you level and complete breifings and missions. And the only 8 men thing is just silly. I'm not saying play this game because it really just is NOT for everyone some people will just not enjoy it and that's fine... But be realistic with your expectations.
I always look at join dates. Doesn't everybody?
oh yes, if you join just to make a post about how bad something is. I disregard
doesn't help that it's a review from a site that i've well never even heard of
Pretty pathetic people go out of their way just to defame a game. Get a life.
DCUO rocks.

Not sure what he's on about, but what a shite review. The game is good. It still has too many bugs, but they'll get sorted out. Nothing gamebreaking. I'd rather read the user reviews underneath GiantBomb anyway.
Yeap the game definitely isn't bad at all. There is some certain things about the combat that need tweaking (like the fact that some attacks don't feel like they actually connect or make contact with your target) but, all in all its pretty good.
Also, Archery combined with Psionics kicks a lot of ass.
This is not a game.
he joined at this site just to bash the game. would just ignore these kinda bullshit.
I had to make an account to respond to one point of this review.
I never thought I would see someone complain about feeling like the signature characters are too weak compared to the players. If he really wants Batman to come rescue him, well, that tells me way too much about him.
Guys, the review exist outside of wether the OP is a new member or an old one.
Hearing a bad review about a game your enjoying is never easy. If being a CO player taught me one thing, it's not to pay any heed to these reviews if you're having fun.
Although I was genuinely puzzled for a bit about his opinion on the costume mechanics but the article is from a console players POV so fair enough. The rest of it meshes pretty well with my experiences in the game to date.
DCUO just launches so i'm sure many changes and a long life are ahead of it. I think many are just expressing their dismay that the game isn't the giant-killer they thought it could be.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

Don't get confused with that I thought and what the reviewer thought, I added my own opinion so read the link before you bitch about stuff I said and then blaming that reviewer.
I thought customization was weak, you cannot change anything about your face and height is 3 presets, everything is reall just presets of which there aren't much to choose from. Playing Champions Online gives so many more options that DCUO should have done. I know there is loot in the game but like in every MMO there isn't unlimited amounts of armour so you see loads of people wearing the same stuff. Where as in Champions the creation is so diverse I'd be surprised if you saw anyone who looked even close to you.
The OP left out the part in the review where Jeff clearly states he is having several issues with the game on the PS3. Laggy Combat, Long Load Times, Ect.
So of course he is going to give the game a bad review if combat is lagging it it take awhile to load into new areas and such. I know this isnt the normal case because I play on the PC and the game loads within 1-2 seconds and combat is about as smooth as silk.
But I do like how the OP left out all them key points that where in the review on the page.
Actually hearing a bad review is still hearing a bad review. As a reviewer it's not so much your personal opinion that matters as your most objective opinion. Putting the guy who hates all MMOs and even th concept of a MMO in charge of reviewing a MMO is probably not your best move. Unless you're pandering. All "professional" reviews I take with a grain of salt, a review by some random I just see as entertainment.
In this instance it seems the reviewer lost context and sort of just ranted a bit. I don't think the game is perfect or the best thing ever, and I'm not a big DC fan, but I am leary of a review that is 40%. The feel of Gotham alone is worth 40%... plus there are apes. So that's like 50% right there, if we were to be completely objective.
How is he trying to defame a game by posting a review from someone else on GiantBomb?
C'mon guys.. Theres a concerned poster then theirs rabid fanboyism..
Btw Giantbomb is a major video gameing site that has been around for quite some time and even had DCUO beta keys up for grabs back when this game was still in beta.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
Hi Random Stranger,
I am glad you took the time to make an account to warn us about this video game! I think all of us were just moments away from purchasing said video game. Your timely, informed and very objective warning has been heeded by the masses. Job well done, sir and/or miss!
Good work,

A good reviewer would not comment on something they did not actually experience first hand.
I will agree that the game has the best realized urban setting that i have ever seen. Gotham is simply jaw-dropping. While I was awed by the environment at first, it's not enough. Not for 40%
How can he say there is nothing to do at max level when he never got to max level?
A good reviewer would not comment on something they did not actually experience first hand.
The problem with this is that is someone who is having issues decides to leave the game, they seldom wait until they hit max level.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Bah anyone would half brain who isnt fan/hatter wont puch much trust in Score of review. These threads names suck imo, you should write Informative/Uninformative or such kinds at thread name. It is impossible to be objective on scoring, how can you if everything in life is subjective (objective means that majority approve of that type of rating or smth like that). This review is average in all. Some information but you need to use brains to gather information you need.
To be honest no matter how many good points DCUO have I would rate it 1/5, max 2/5 because I purely hate superhero things...
Hello,
I played Closed Beta and I am now a paying customer. This is the first game I have paid to play in a long time. I personally enjoy it quite a bit. Yes the UI and power descriptions need work but they are working on it. Some argue the chat filter issue but that is in the game to protect the young kids who will be playing because they beg their parents to let them play the new "superman" game or the new "batman" game...I do hear they are working on a way to enable and disable it though.
People worry about customization, the basic character creation can be limited but you get new costumes and what not as you play..As for initial character creation, I have made every character look the way I wanted them to. With that said it is not as in depth as say Champions but I actually found Champions too over whelming. Also thsoe who complain about customization, in most MMOS everyone looks the same by the time you get max level anyways due to everyone wearing the same epic gear for the same class. You don't get that in this game.
Combat/Gamplay, I also enjoy. I feel like how I move my character and what I do matters in combat, that I am just not pounding away at number keys or f keys in a certain sequence to win. Instead I am moving around dodging things rolling around, swooping down from the sky etc. I wish more games had this kind of combat. I will say this I found some of my quest lonely without being in a league. This is due to being in an instance prevents you from talking to the outside world. This can be some what a turn off to some players. To me it encourages grouping etc.
Powers, yes you can only have so many powers up at at time, does this limit the game not really. Instead it makes you focus on your character and have your character do what you want him/her to do. Also you get iconic powers, weapon skills, travel skills/powers, Innate abilities etc. So much you can do. I have not seen any two players with all the exact same powers loaded up etc. I also enjoy the class switching on the fly thing. Any class can be DPS on top of another class, either controller, healer, tank... Personally I favor DPS no matter my class cause I'm a loser
Endgame- I have one character who is 30, and another who is like 28. On my 30 I am still finishing up several level 28-29 quest lines. With my level 30 I have done one duo which was amazing and also have done a few raids etc. It is amazing and quite fun. Also you have several racing events to do and other feat challenges. Doing thigns without dying/using a cola (healing potions) etc. All quite fun. The game rushes you to 30 because that is where the game starts to get interesting. DC/SOE is planning on doing weekly special events as well, once the game gets established..The PVP ring wars are also quite fun and they are several times a day. I wouldn't do it though unless I was 30, even though at level 20 I took down a level 30
Anyways, just my thoughts,
Dustin
