Easy enough right?

What sort of crazy physical attacks do you always have to tell friends about?

What kind of acrobatic wave of death dealing have you executed that you like seeing carry on in generations of MMOs to come?

Just give the name of the ability, what game it came from, and why you liked it! You can list one or two or five or however many come to mind.

Not a single ability, but I miss the 'twisting' that certain classes were able to accomplish in DAoC. If you're not familiar with the game, after an aura or song or whatever had been cancelled, it persisted for a while, allowing you to have two separate effects running at all times, provided your fingers were up to it.

Lots of fun, despite the carpal tunnel.

    Playing: FFXIV, EVE

Mine all involve drowning people as an Undead Warrior or Mage in WoW.

1.) Mind control helmet in early WoW. When I was level 30-something in Stranglethorn Vale a lvl 60 warrior jumped me on the beach, so I swam out into the ocean while she chased me. Swapped in my MC helmet, went to the very bottom of the ocean and let her catch up, clicked mind control helm and put her on stay and watched her drown to death.

2.) Polymorph in WoW. Drowned several higher level people with Polymorph + Frostbolts as well on my Undead Mage. At first they though I was stupid because I kept alternating frostbolts with polymorphs and healing them back up and they kept swimming after me. When they realized their air gauge was what I was attacking and changed directions it was always too late.

3.) Hamstring spam underwater as an Undead Warrior with a shield on. Outlast on HP and breath.

Many MMOs: The oh sh*t button. That one skill on a 30 minute or 2 hour or really timer that saves your arse. I love that.

Spiteful Spirit:Necro:Guild Wars: come on hurt yourself, again...again...love it.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

    Ooh, all good stuff.

The King's 5 in no particular order.

"Carnival of Gore" was a 2hand axe ability in the top % in Shadowbane. My minotaur had about 130% in his 2 handed axe skill and a grand +40 str rune. The skill didn't always hit with all of it's effects on, but I did manage to 1 hit crit and kill a Templar in his cute lil' angel form.

Backstab EQ classic. It's in a lot of games I know, but man I shanked the crap out everything with my half-elf rogue in that game. It was really my only move! But so much of the game from there was about finding position and keeping the big baddies from knowing you're the one gettin'em from behind. >,-

FFXI's Monks Shoulderbutt. It may have had another name like shoulder charge or something, but my toon would kneel down a little and lift in such a violent manner. Good damage and utility too!

WoW- Warlock's 2 most used dots way when (may have changed now) but the combo of Corruption and Curse of Agony. Thousands were killed thanks to these lil' tickers from me. So much fun to dot people in pvp and see how long you could get away with it.

KNOCKOUT BLOW! Anyone else use the Super Strength set in City of Heroes or Villains? My goodness this is the King's favorite. In particular with the alternate animations. A good ol' wind up and BOOM! Straight to the moon Alice. It was one of those skills that always had that 'gamble' feel for a direct damage melee hit. So many down to the last few ticks of health and power between me and another player or boss mob and it'd hit and I'd win, or it'd miss and I'd have to give it another go. Plus it made me feel SUPER in a super hero game. Some of their other melee sets didn't really do that for me.

My favorite by far was the bard song Melanie's Mellifluous Motion from EQ1. Especially when the group wasn't expecting it and I was very drunk. Random short teleports by the entire group. Loved it.

The only other one I can think of wasn't so much a move but the original hard packed snowball in WoW. Knocking people off the AV bridge and sending AFKers back through the zone-in in the cave was great while it lasted.

    Shadowbane:

Used to play nephilim(sp?) mage bard .... back before they changed it so nephs couldnt be bards... so i was one of the unique ones for a little while.  But soooo many useful abilites .... i wasnt doing any damage or healing ... but BOY did everyone take me into group for my chants for uber buffs. ... PVPing 10vsEveryoneyoumeet was so fun back then.

But I have to say my favorite power of all time has got to be Summon from Shadowbane .... especially once you start chain summons for banes ... aawww good old days when you can summon any army all by yourself by summong other summoners .. who summon other summoners .. and so on.

EDIT: ooooo i forgot wizard group teleport.

Wizard teleports entire groups across walls and so on... god i miss that game : (

I liked the Split Arrow skill for rangers in Vanguard, this was the ultimate skill to leveling.

Or using sneak and hide, run into dungeons and charming BUG type bosses pulling it out to kill with ranger in Vanguard.

The dread knight abilities Scythe of Doom and Ravaging Darkness, I was able to tank and solo up to 12+ mobs in Vanguard.

Also the head shot AA from EQ 1 for rangers. It made grinding AA's so much quicker.

Fear kiting was awesome, AoE spell that slows movement speed then AoE nukes on Wizards and Druids in EQ.

Edit: How could I forget....Getting reptile slayer / Dragon slayer spell book and using the chain lightning spell killing dragons super quick, of course you need a whole lot of spell damage increase modifiers and mana regen / lower mana cost equipment to really make it worthwhile.

My favorite is Energy Bolt (Cor Por) in Ultima Online - the sound, the damage and the years of misery it caused..

Other than that, whatever move it is my Wife uses in Vindictus where she grabs an enemy, punches him in the face a few times and then throws him at a wall... that's up there on my list, as well.

Ha, that reminds me of the hobbit slapping gloves in LotRO.

    Power Leak in GW

Theres nothing more satisfying, than putting a hex on a warrior and then burning half of the monks energy with power leak, when he tries to remove the hex.. :)

All would be from Tabula Rasa

The rangers carpet bombing could sweep entire army which was always fun

Blasting mortars bosses with a rocket launcher was very satisfying as well (blasting anything with rocket launcher was fun in MMO)

The snipers skill preparation allowing you to one-shot many common enemies

those where the skills you want in a game;)

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Fav spell of all time for me wasnt one that was given to players but one given to a mob. Turbine released in its first MMO(Asheron's Call) a lvl 666 WHite Rabbit that had a wicked spell titled Bunny Smite(Drains 1000-6000 points of the target's Health. This was a 1 shot spell yo get hit with it you died, and for those that say this is impossible the last time i played Asheron's Call the highest i saw somesones health was about 800hp.) The way you saw this spell is if you were the one that did the most damage to the White Rabbit. Of all the people that I know went after this fearsome rodent only 1 ever resisted the spell.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

    AoC fatalities.

Sin has some good ones, dual wield conq also... the Demonologists are pretty awesome, especially if you can get the exploding head one.

  • sazabisazabi Member UncommonPosts: 389

most spells in guild wars. mesmers especially. the various conditions to spells like if you cast X spell on enemy while he is casting Y, you get Y in place of your X.

spell disruption, spell control, spell stealing , whatever spell related... done right.

    Lineage 2:

Critical strikes,  the animation and the sound just really came across as if it did hurt a lot.

Gladiator finisher moves really always looked awesome, the combination of moves in the animation.

    WoW:

Shapeshifting : One of the coolest things really, druid shapeshiting is just awesome.

This might sound slightly cheesy but...WAR's Sorceress' Word of Pain, before it got nerfed, just because it used to hit like an ice-cream truck of doom out of seemingly nowhere lol.

    That aside...

WOW's Mage's Polymorph (who wouldn't want to see their hated foe turn into a sheep/turtle)

GW's Necro's Spiteful Spirit (stop hurting yourself, /bonk, stop hurting yourself, /bonk)

    GW's Ranger's [insert any interrupt/condition shot here

GW's Mesmer's [insert any interrupt spike hex here]

    ...amongst others. =D

Any other fans of EQ1 Wizard's Ice Comet? I never got it myself, never played a wizzy, but I helped my friend form it and make it and that seemed like it took forever. Then we went merrily about on the pvp servers having people chase my rogue into a face full of death. The animation was cool too!

Guild Wars: Perfect for situations where you are defending and waves of mobs charge at you while you have already killed a shiteload of mobs: Explosive Growth + Aura of the Lich. The carnage...

City of Heroes - The lightning strike ability brutes get at level 32, in Elec line, don't know the name. You turn into electricity and strike some distance away.

Champions Online - Lead Tempest. You shoot your two guns around you like in the movie Equilibrium. Not sure if the game developers saw this, but I always guessed so. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/

Huh. interesting, i can't really think of any except from those two games. but those are the top 2.
