Finally, Finally a good MMO comes out: DCUO

After an awful, awful 2010 (remember STO, FFXIV, and APB ugh!) an MMO releases in 2011 to my delight! DCUO! I spent so many hours in this forum bashing the games of 2010 because the industry was just releasing TOTAL CRAP. I was actually infuriated if you read any of my previous posts. FFXIV just took the cake for me, lol. NOW in 2011 we get a decent, polished, fast moving MMO that is actually fun to play! I still have a few reservations about the title, but it is SUCH A FRICKING IMPROVEMENT OVER 2010!!!!

Anyone feel the same out there?

Anyone feel totally different?

Anyone out there just want to troll my thread? LOL

Have a good one!

If you enjoy FPS games or like twitch gameplay, you'll probably like DCUO.  But as for the genre itself, I think majority of the people in the MMO genre don't like twitch gameplay.

    We'll see.

Yeah, I'm one of those who isn't looking for twitch gameplay in my MMORPG's so this title probably isn't for me, but glad to see that its a good game that's providing folks the entertainment they've been looking for.

As far as compared to 2010 releases, Yes, DCUO came out solidly doing what it intended.

I for one, do like the twitchy game play. I am probably the demographic (mid 30s) that is not supposed to. But I'm a twitchy person, I so far have done very well even in PvP in DCUO.

I have more issues with longevity in this game. What is the point of PvP? Still, like Warhammer, you can always at least find PvP, which is a plus. But I'll be max level soon and I don't see enough variety in power sets to alt a lot. Aside from different visual effects, 75% of the fight is still movement and Lmouse Rmouse.

I was hoping to get into it because I like DC lore as well as Jim Lee's art, but I'm not really looking for a MMO of Final Fight. I'm glad to see people enjoying it, and hope we see more quality non-fantasy MMOs!

DCUO,  Rifts  and tera I can pretty much say will be solid MMOs.  GW2 and Swtor,  if they even release in 2011 have a good chance of being solid as well.

Was disappointed personally, thought it was shallow in almost every area. I'm sure it will improve but I just can't see any lasting appeal. Each to their own!

Been playing DCUO for about a week. I'm bored of it and don't even wanna log in anymore... though I keep forcing myself in hopes that it will get more exciting down the road, but I doubt it.

I personally found in my playthrough that the game was insipid and shallow.  Far more suited to an action console title than anything mmo related.  I also felt that their putting it on PC was little more than an attempt to squeeze as much money as possible from current subscribers to one or more of SOE's games.

IF they are able to add meaningful, deep content on a monthly basis then my view may change.  As of now it doesn't offer any MMO gamer 1/10th of what we are accustomed to from even the shoddiest of f2p import titles.

Not to mention, that if you give a man who is dying of thirst a cup of morning urine he will think you are the bestest thing eva.  By your own description, I am tempted to think that you might be the poor sod dying of thirst and Smedley was standing by with a fresh piping cup for ya :P

This seems to be the most sensible and calm discussion of DCOU I've seen so far.

It is not the be all to end all of MMOs, but if you like that style of game and the hero genre (and providing that SOE comes through with more content) then it may be the game for you. If you don't like a twitchy action oriented game or the hero genre then this game is going to be terrible for you.

    I can't believe I'm saying this......

but I thought DCUO was an AMAZING game too....until I hit the cap.  I took my time hitting the cap, I explored and got feats and did alerts and pvp and had sooo much fun.  However, I can't push myself to log in and farm another 2-8 marks just to get an item that has like +4 stat A and +3 stat B and +4 stat C.  It's not that much better really.

I dislike the itemization at high levels and my backpack isa lready full of blues that I want to sell, but there is no space to sell.  I keep waiting for the big patch, but I don't know what can really solve this problem.  The AH will be nice to get rid of my junk....but then it's stil back to farming marks for armor that is barely noticable.  I do want to note that I DO have fun PvPing and PvEing in the game, but it only lasts about an hour when the realization hits that I'm just arcading it up.

    Anyone else feel this way?

Meh, this MMO is not going to solve my issues I have with the current MMO market.

Reason? Wrong genre, wrong publisher. :-(

isn't a bad game for the ones that like button bashing console games like we are used from Superhero games. The UI and chat was verry bad when I played it, did they fix that? if they did, it could become a good game.

This post sums up why i avoided this game at least near its launch.  The game has only been out for two weeks and someone who is trying ot take their time is already at the cap.  I've been playing mmos for awhile although I'm only 25 years of age but if there is one requirement that is neccessary for me to purchase an mmo its longevity.  All the mmos that have been coming don't possess that trait which is a bummer.

I'm going to continue following this game in hopes that more content updates and what not will help it.  But the main thing I'm hoping for is that the leveling pace is slowed which may end up having to happen when people hit the cap get bored and leave all within the first month.  I want this game to be successful don't get me wrong.  There are some appealing aspects but i just cant purchase it until I know i can get more than a few weeks worth of satisfaction

I don't really have that problem, and I'm not really sure what server you're playing on but things are rather different for me.

Though the PvP gear for T2 doesn't increase my toughness a WHOLE bunch its still something I'd like to get to max my toughness.  Supposedly there are weapon drops from raids that give you up to 95 DPS which is roughly 30 more than you get from regular weapons.

Last night I achieved a feat for beating 25 players in a PvP match without dying ( and the equally impressive feat of beating 25 players in an arena PvP match).     I have 46 skill points, and decided to roll a tank in my spare time.  I have a bunch of gear in my inventory that I can sell,  but some of the more rare ones I keep in my bank until the broker goes live.

Last night our league also had it out with another major legion on the server in little bohemia,  this is a weekly occurrence for us.    Some of our members already have over 50 skill points.

Also, last night in little bohemia (Public Enemies server)  a GM was running around playing as Super Girl.  Really awesome to see that in the open world.

As for those blues you have,  sell them,  you can't trade blues, apparently they are all bind on pickup,  but you can sell purples and greens and trade them as well.

To OP: this game is NOT POLISHED.

On UI I give it 1/10. Terrible.

I should be able to hit ctrl + r to reply if i want. I should only need to press enter once inorder to get into quick chat and not have to wait 3-5seconds before I can start typing.

The whole mess with voice chat, riduculous.

  • SinakuSinaku Member UncommonPosts: 552

Was considering picking this one up until i read a post about people being level cap and high end grinding already and even within the first week. Bummer. To the OP glad you enjoy the game though even if its not to everyone elses liking. Hopefully everyone else will have a game come out soon they can all enjoy.

So far this game has been a load of fun to play and is a great change of pace from the same old same old. Who cares if you can hit cap in a week or two I know people on Lotro who have grinded out alts to cap in that amount of time its just some of us have more freetime (and insane dedication to the grind) then others. I don't find the general UI broken its just different and takes some getting used to,  I do find the social options broken  however but hopefully this is something they take care of in the near future.

To me it feels like WORK. You HAVE to go in EVERYDAY so you don't stay behind. It did not feel like this when I was playing FFXI.

Its good to hear that someone is happy.  I'm looking forward to a couple of games yet to come and hope to have the same reaction.

Agreed.  Really comes down to the social aspect of MMO gaming, and with FPS gameplay, you're either twitching or you're talking.  (And if you're doing both, that's Tourette's.)

Had no idea it was twitched based game play.

How does it compare with a game like DFO?

The lack of reason for the pvp sounds like a pretty big downfall to me.

If the combat is really that fun there is no reason they can't make some great pvp content to keep people busy and slowly add new content every 1-2 months.

This game was fun for a few hours as the newness factor was there, but got old quick.

plus my finger hurts. still. 3 weeks later.
