Are the people in Guild Wars a bunch of pricks or do they actually play the game and have good clean fun?

I hear bigot comments involving Mexicans, Frenchmen, Canadians, and Asians everyday. I try to ignore them.

Yeah I agree, a lot of people are lame over the internet because they can't talk trash to others in real life. And yeah it seems to me everyone over the internet is racist...

Haven't seen any bad behavior on the european servers. Though it's hard to tell when someone is using foul language there, most of the people talk german or french.

Think I've seen less than I've seen in other MMORPGs. That's to be expected though since instead of having 100+ in a zone all talking smack to eachother and escalating insults ( Hi, WoW! ), there will only be 10-50 people in a zone looking to join groups. That means they'll tend to tone down the idiocy to get invites. Then you mix in the factor that people will more often be in a guild and possibly turn off local chat until they want to do some trading or group searching. Once in a 4v4 pvp match there was some kid that spouted off a couple lines of idiocy after we beat their team. That was once in 21 matches, so doesn't seem too bad to me.

Some are pricks and some are not :P

The basic thing is that, you would have someone to talk with in ENGLISH :)

That's why I joined the US servers and it's a really good thing that you can transfer your toons over to the other realm.

Basically, the people who play the game have no social skills. I was part monk and would often have to refuse to rez people until they stopped abusing other team members.

My guess is (and apologies to 12-16 year olds who are mature), immature teens who havent developed social skills are buying this game when they otherwise wouldnt play because of the credit-card barrier. They are rushing to the pvp part of the game, abusing people and generally being an annoyance.

It trashes the team-based architecture of the game, people quit mid mission making the harder missions take days. It also has a plus side, when you find a co-herent bunch of people, you usually stick around for 5-6 missions and really gang together as a group, appreciating what an asset it is to play with mature players.

Expect to tolerate idiots, be the leader of the team (too many leaders is fine and helps you put morons in their place). Have some monk skills to help out the morons who run in tanking everything, its the only way to progress through the game if one area is moron infested.

The game looks better now but to be frank, i berserked the game and found that only morons had done so too, at that time. So basically I was at the top end of the game, lvl 20, and had a lot of problems finding like minded people.

And ... oh yeah... the game sucks, lasts 4 days and has no depth. Dont buy it :P

i've been playing since the game was released and haven't seen any racism or any abuse at all really.

I havent had any problem like this at all.  Maeby the peoply that run into these problem run into by making them happen. I got 3xlvl 20 RP toons and 1k+ fame rating..  Besiden the accationel "your a moron" after you kill off a team in tombs i havent gotten or heard any racist or anything said. So im beginning to think that ppl apprently only meet idiots and 12y old who smack talk might wanna try and rethink how come they attract them. Couse apprently noone from my guild have had this problem.  But then im sure we are just 29 lucky players who have all missed all the idiots and noobs.

I haven't really encountered anything that stands out in my mind. Nothing more than what I would encounter in other games. A nice thing about the multiple districts is if you find someone spamming chat or annoyed, you can quickly switch districts and continue doing what you came to that location for.

Sure you'll find characters dancing (seems more prevalent in Pre-Searing than Post), but it's not really different from other games. Sure GW seemed to put a lot more into their /dance emote than you'd normally find, but in any game with emotes, you'll find people using them repeatedly (emote spam). I don't care what game it is, there's always someone. Shoot, in past games I've played, there's been players who have just run around in circles nonstop for a number of minutes. For what purpose, I don't know, perhaps attention or simply to be annoying?

I haven't experienced any of these issues (Although I haven't really played much).  This no monthy fee concept was bound to bring forth a wave of immature kids and many of us knew this from the start. Regardless, the way the game is set-up can easily limit these potential annoyances.  image

The community is crap, worst i have seen out of any game (Yes, even worse then Anarchy Online), i find it best to spend as little time in the lobby as pobbile, and only group with friends, its also a real pain to buy items, more often then not, they advertise the item at one price, and you come to buy it, and all of a sudden, the price goes up about double,

    13-19 swrd 300g

I message person, "strg hry up"

i go to the Storage, find him, initate trade, put 300 gold in, submit offer, wait for sword

i get response, nub 500g now, you nub pay more, i cancel trade, walk away, get another mesasge saying "omg nub my frendz gun kill j00"

Similar things have happened about 1/3 of the time i try too buy somthing.

And i wont even go in to the experinces i had in PvP.

Ducky I have to agree with you....I dont get how others havent experienced this unless they havent interacted with the community at all.
The other day I was looking for a group and I say "W/N 12 LFG for Garfazz"
I get a reply back in general chat "Dude ill grp with u wen u stop usin a char name from PS2" My character name is Jax Swift and supposedly that is a PS2 character name? I dont know, I dont own a PS2.
Anyways this guy goes on to make fun of the fact that I use the same name as a PS2 character and his lame ass friend spams in HAHAHAHAHAHA ever 2 seconds. Welcome to my ignore list kiddies.

The other bad thing about the general chat is the trade spamming. I cant count how many times ive PM'd people(ive stopped doing this and go right to the ignore list) telling them to stop spamming in the All channel and use Trade, and I more than likely get a reply like "STFU ass, stop being such a bitchy fag and get a fuckin life OMFG noob". ::::04:: <------ This face is not laughing.

Many times ive gotten onto a mission team for a certain mission, and while on the way to it, the leader or another person demands that we go do a mission way out of the way, when frankly ive been on it already a few times and dont want to help some ignorant prick do his/hers. If we end up doing his quest, I could probably say 100% of the time he quits the group, because after all he just wanted to complete his quest and doesnt give a crap about anybody else. If we say screw you, we are doing the original quest, he quits the group.

The helpful-ness of the community is also by far the worst. If I ask any kind of question I either get no reply what so-ever even though the lobby is full of people, or I get told to go read the f-in manual, even though this question is no where in the manual.

First I apologize to any people who are mature in this age range. I think the reason the community is the worst ive seen is because the grand majority of people who cant afford to pay for a monthly game(pre-teens and young teens who cant get a job yet and dont have a CC) can play this game. I remember when I was in middle school and early highschool. Especially in middle school, I was a little jerk along with the other kids. I think online this comes out a little more because there are no consequences to being an ass to others. Its not like you are going to get the crap beat out of you in real life, so why not make fun of others and be a general moron? What's the coincidence that you will meet up again in-game with somebody you have been a dick to?

The other main thing that gets at me is being able to just click out of the game. Im sure that many of you have experienced teamates quiting the mission team in the middle of a mission, no good bye, no "Hey I have to leave", nothing. No consequences for absolutely screwing over your teamates and wasting their time. I get when people have to go due to RL issues, I do myself. Its when there is no acknowledgment that you are leaving or "sorry I have to go", just further shows off the immaturity that exists among others.

So I would have to say that this community is by far the worst MMO community I have ever experienced.

are you guys on the US servers? becuase I haven't seen much (if any) of that on the euro servers (except the quitting, but that can be CTD's as well as people having to leave for RL)

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

i think the following words need to be added to offensive word filter

    pwned,pwn3d,pwnt,pwn,nub,leet,l33t,omg,omgz,r0x, j00

That would help alot, but then the average message would be,

       --- --- i --- ---

    *omg nub i pwn j00*

Myko, Yes were on the US server.

Just as a counterpoint, I've never seen this kind of thing and I am on the US servers as well. I'm only up to the Wilds, so maybe it gets worse as you get further along. The only thing I've seen that annoyed me was one time in Ascalon, there were a group of people playing Craps or something and the chat spamming from that was horrible. I just went to a different district and it was fine.

For the missions, as soon as I join a group, I uncheck "all" so the spam goes away and talk to the group about what mission is being contemplated to make sure we are all on the same page. Also, what the interest is in doing the secondary mission. Better to discuss it up front than be disappointed later. The reality is that some places have 4 or more missions/quests leaving from the same city and there's no way of telling what everyone wants to do without being explicit.

Other than the occasional Cowboy (they all seem to be Warrior's by the way) I haven't had much problem with the community.

Well, I have seen both sides.

On the one side, you have of course the immature people, simply acting stupid and offensive (probably cause they don't know better) and those that quit without telling.

Now I know this game can crash without warning, it happened to me before and to friends, but a lot of times the game starts to act up first and then crashes. I for myself think it is only fair to warn the team if this is about to happen (sound is messed up, then the cursor and so on). But yes, people just leaving whenever their quest is done or whenever they think they died too often is quite annoying. But then again I have spontaneously teamed with ppl and just had a blast. I was having a lot of fun, but tbh I wish that was the case more often.

Another thing that is bothering me, are ppl just running off and dragging and drawing big groups of mobs to the rest of the team. I mean especially later on in the game it is important to stay close to each other and not run off into different directions. I would call this common sense, but I suppose some ppl think it is fun or they just need extra attention.

Concerning trade, I have had no problems at all,but then of I have to admit I have not been buying or selling too much stuff. But the few times I did, I had no complaints or couldn't complain.

The things that bothers me most is that a lot of ppl are just so not interessted in helping other players. I just got to the Desert part and was desperatley looking for some ppl to join my team or to take me to another city, as I didn't know where to go.

Out of, I'd say 50 people, not a single one joined or answered. And those 50 ppl were not in teams yet. Now that is what I call sad. Usually when I see people asking for help, I don't mind. It's chance for items, xp new places and just (maybe) meeting some new people. So yes, I would love to see the GW players to be more interessted in joining teams and just sticking with the team they started.

I havent traded much, just 2 times but increasing price AFTER someone wants to buy is just messed up. I sold my silver but I wanted first more than the npc (didnt notice silver at dye merchant), buyer said that was more npc price & he waited while I checked. We settled so I got more than (npc) buy price & he got a good discount (compared to npc sell price).
(You can sell dye to the dyes merchant for decent gold btw, other npc:s give 1 gold for it).

But I have seen ranger wanting to pay 150 gold for 3 charr hides in public chat (Ive sold 1 charr hide for 100 gold so that sounded low to me), & now you can make Fur with it from the new collector. (=4 Charr hides makes 1 (rare) fur square from collector in Old Ascelon (new npc to fix availability for fur squares).

Im on EU server & I guess buyers/sellers cant be that stingy/messed up since most dont seem to speak english (although "omg nub my frendz gun kill j00" isnt english either).

Ive gotten up to yaks bend & so far only some groups have people that listen, right now war/*sub* tend to rush ALL the time. They expect healers/nukers to be npc henchmen with infite energy or something. Teams that have people that know each other tend to listen since they dont want to mess about (strangers to me, they know each other).
(Got a guild invite after I grouped with 2 from the same guild incidently, chatting after mission & clicking ctrl+left mouse on mana bar helps.(Joined another guild from another forum)).

Also if you manage to complete the mission you get the items you left behind (unless someone in team took it after loot-timer times out).

But as always: "free game = horrid community", although L2 & WoW have managed to break that rule (must be Diablo2 -> Warcraft3 ->WoW -> L2 transition or something).

    "Wonderful" thing happened today.

We were running around in the desert area (crystal desert?) and did one of those mainquests, I can't remember which city it was (capture and keep the throne). First we had a full player team with a healer who even told me to kick the healer henchman cause he was such a good healer (I know I know, shouldn't have listened). Anyway this guy was not able to heal right. I don't know what he did but he didn't heal us, that's for sure.

Now after we failed miserably we went back to the outpost and he starts telling us that we would all be level 20s and that we shouldn't take those level 18s with us, cause he would have to heal them all the time.

LoL he went on and on about them being too low so the original 3 of the old team left and just filled the last spots with henchies and we made it without a problem. Now this makes me wonder, do those ppl that talk of themselves as "great healers", "extremly strong warriors" (and so on) try to complensate something or are they just so full of themselves?

Anyway, the morale is, don't trust those that talk about themselves as the greates, strongest, fastest and so on. Sorry, but I just had to get that out. Ppl like that just really make me mad.

All I do is PvP and for Guild Wars which i'm going to buy, I just want people who are not pricks but still competitive. It seems like my kind of game but people tend to ruin games with immature comments etc. But reading all these posts it seems alright.
