It is worth it. Word of warning though. After playing Ryzom it is hard to get used to any game with:
- Rats drop gold and swords - Looks like a hybrid of every fantasy&historical theme ever invented - Graphics, terrain and weather effects are not awesome - Mobs just stand around doing nothing waiting to get killed - is full of leet kiddies with extremely stupid names and try to duel you every other minute - You are limited to predefined actions and spells
the way the world fits together, the mobs arent static, they actaully behave like animals and each mob type has its own individual behaviour
if you want a game to enjoy, wonder at and explore its definately worth it
in would reccomend anyone to do the free trial, since i started playing this, any other game i try just f doesnt hold my interest as its all a bit too boring and not immersive enough for me now
Ryzom is my first step in the mmorpg world, and what an experience !! No orcs, no dwarfs no rebels/imps , only new stuffs and refreshing countrysides, and sure big time.
Ryzom was my first mmorpg as well, and I was hooked right away.
It is new, it is different and it has by far the best community you coud wish for. You have living flora and fauna, you have to figure out what mob does what and so on. You have a lot of freedom to explore and to try, you have challenges no matter how far you are with your levels. You have the chance for "multi-classing" and so on and so on.
And yes, just what was said earlier. You have a 2 weeks free trial you can check out and the nice thing is, you are not limited to the refugee island (the newcomer area) but you can leave as soon as you feel you are ready. So if you have doubts, just give it a try and let the game itself convince you that it is worth playing
Oh thats funny, seems that Ryzoms is magnet for those who enter mmorpg. Have met lots of those people up to now, and I have to count myself to that group too.
'I can just tell you:
Worth trying it? No. You can try wow, try d&l, but just can love SoR. (okok that might be quite subjective, but, yes I am fallen in love with that game)
Worth loving it, definitive.
It is said very often here and elsewhere, one of the best things of SoR is definitively the Community of the game. And, once I heard someone saying the Comm makes a game loveable. That Homin was right indeed. Beside the grafical aspect and the sound which fits better to the gameenvironment than in every other game I have played of course. I think the thing with the Comm is because SoR is a kind of niche product and attracts a special kind of Gamers, not the common ones of wow and co.
It is fantastic, and has an unbeleaveable amount of potential. Users have developed so many possible features (their dreams of how could be) and discussed in forums about that as they would be the developers themselves. hehe.
Any is game is only going to be worth what you put into it in the long run.
I have found it to be well worth it both during those times when I had only a little time and the periods when I lived and breathed it. If you like playing solo, there is plenty to do and explore, but the game really comes alive as you play in concert with others.
The cost is minimal, the world is fantastic. You get to make your experience what you will!
