Fellow rpg players, please give me your opinions..

Ok, before i ask my question, here is a list of classic rpgs i played and beat, and new mmorpgs i played..

old:

crono trigger
7th saga
lufia
illusion of gaia
plus many more that i cant remember..

mmorpg's:

ragnarok online(played for a while, then stopped, very fun)
world of warcraft(meh, played for a week, then stopped, not that fun)
MU online(ok game, but not enough areas and to many loser pk'ers)
knight online(meh)
rose online(meh)

Now, i am looking for a new mmorpg to play, as now i have the time, i am having a hard
time figuring out which to play, here is the style of mmorpg's i like:

when you equip something you can see it on you(unlike ragnarok, lol)
vast world to explore(unlike MU online)
doesnt take 3 years to get to level 30
friendly helpfull ENGLISH community
must be able to activate account with a game card(like i did with WoW)
good character customization
a wide selection of character classes to pick from..

here is a list of games i thought about trying, if i am correct, i think that you can make an account
with a game time card..

lineage 2
everquest 2
city of heros
guild wars(its free, i know, lol, but it doesnt seem like a real mmorpg)

cant think of any now, but i prefer games you gotta buy, not download..

i am a hardcore rpg fan, but lately the games i have been trying have been turning me away from
rpgs, like MU online, i always get killed by other players, i ask questions, and never get an answer
and it drives me nuts..

please can i get some good mature replys, and peoples opinions on which mmorpgs are good in there opinion, and are worth the money..

thanks in advance..

wow all the games u wanted to try compltely ignore the standards u have set.

L2 has a huge huge grind, little character customization, bad economy, and a lot of korean and chinese players.

CoH lots of character customization, not too big of a world.

and once u get 80% to the top leveled little to nothing to do.

everquest two suffers a huge grind factor. and i think it will attract all the farmers of all languages with SOE's decisions. SO DO NOT PLAY THIS SITE WILL AGREE WITH ME ALMOST UNAMIMOUSLY.

but u wont like guild wars all too much..... from ur posting style i just feel u wont.

thanks so much for the reply..

i made a mistake in saying about the level grind, it took me a while to get my characters in ragnarok to a high level, i had a level 91 wizard, 71 assasin, 64 rogue, 52 monk, plus many other characters i made and leveled, then deleted, lol..

actually the grinding doesn't bother me to much, since you reply'ed to my topic, i will ask you these questions..

1: can you make a everquest 2 account with a gametime card?

2: are the characters in eq2 very customizeable(sp?)?

3: lol what other mmorpg's are there if everquest 2 sucks! lol i gotta play one!

i think i will end up playing city of heroes, because i love super heroes, lol..

im notn sure about the gamecard in EQ2.

The customization in EQ2 is average.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PLAY EVERQUEST 2.

    for these reasons.

They are allowing players to auction items for real money....THEY ARE SUPPORTING IT AND GIVING THE SITE.

if this at first sounds like a good idea. this means that the players will be able to afford uber equip at lower levels will have allt he upper level equipment without knowing what a good price is.

so what happens is some of the better more common items are sold for 5 times what they should be. i watched this happen in L2 trust me.

Also they have NO MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS OVER EVEERQUEST 1. the reason i say this is it is basically the same game.

their are a bunch of other reasons too, but im too lazy to cite em all.

Maybe u should do guildwars email me at Dantetheslayer@gmail.com with ur character name(start on RP server)

I agree with him about L2 and EQ2 CoH is a pretty good game i played it for about 3 months. The custimization is the best out there and the powers are fun at first. There is a level grind in the game and a death penalty wich takes XP's away.

The upper level missions are fun for a while and i believe the company adds content pretty regularly as far as story line is concerned definately worth a try as you can have fun from the very beginning of the game and when you get bored you can spend hours on the character creator::::32::

If you do not mind the lvl grind try Lineage 2 because there are great rewards later. BUT DO NOT TRY IF YOU ARE SCARED ABOUT THE LEVEL GRIND!!!!!!! Seriously lol. I am not a hardcore player but I am not scared about the lvl grind because I always play with my RL friends. Hehe.

If you are scared about the lvl grind, try Guild Wars. I have played Guild Wars, pretty good though it does not feel like an mmorpg but who cares.

I think AC2 goes into most of those catagories, but im not sure about the game card and also the population does kinda suck. But if you actualy see people they're usually very helpful.

I heard alot of bad things about games like everquest 2, lineage 2 and all that,
i was gonna try them, but meh, i'll stick to coh and gw..

my only problem is my pc specs arent that great..

    dell 4500
    256 ram
    nvidia geforce4 mx 420
    40 gig hd

lol seems like crap, but i played UT2004 and WoW on this pc, and they ran ok, WoW

im sorry you would have trouble running Quake 3 a 5 or 6 year old game on that.

there is no way in hell you are running CoH.

I know that alot of people may have bad things to say about FFXI...

BUT im telling you.... this is the mmorpg to be playing.

Everything about it is great... yes there is a bit of a grind... yes it takes a while to do anything... but these are the only real downsides to the game, and it is ironically, these things that make accomplishing things such a sweet reward.   Ive played ALOT of rpgs... and quite a few mmorpg's.  I played for about ... i cant remember 3 or 4 months and I had a lvl 60blm/30whm.  Yeah i worked my tail off for it, but it was soooo worth it.  Ive recently had to start all over with a new character, which I wouldnt recommend to ANYONE EVER.

mmorpg's recently played: FFXI = great   Anarchy Online = OK, pretty neat.     W.O.W. = boring compared to FFXI.... and way too easy.. unless you're 13.... which you might be, in which case I would say go for it, you might like it better.

Try the game. It comes with a 30 day free trial. YOu have very little to lose, and a great experience to gain.   (FFXI)

GOod luck, hope you find your game!

Meh, EQ2 isn't as bad as Vamp is saying, but its not great, i'd recomend CoH or perhaps Asherons Call

Guildwars well if you get in with a good decent group of people then it will seem like a mmorpg as good as the rest of em going solo it just feels like a regular diablo style play.
  • DregaDrega Member Posts: 225
eh EQ2 isn't as bad as vampyre makes it out to be. Mainly because his main argument is kidna void, they are only allowing you to buy items for cash on special servers. Does has a grind though, but nice char customization and decent RPing. DAoC is a game id recommend though, good RPing but just an ok char customization.

well, i'll get a few things straight..

about the eq2 hating by some members, to each there own, but if people want to buy
game money with real money, then let them, it just shows that they can not earn
    it them selfs..

everquest 2 doesnt look that bad, 2 things are stopping me from buying it right now

1: my crap pc specs, i am adding more ram in 2 weeks..

2: i am not sure if they sell game cards, and if i can make an account with a game card

because i dont have a credit card anymore(long story, had one a few years ago)

but the main thing i look for in a mmorpg, besides good character creation, and a general good mmorpg, is if i ask a person a question, they actually help me with a answer, instead of called me a
"n00b" and walking away, its happend many times..

thanks for the replys, keep em comin..

    sorry i forgot to ask,

in term of advanced graphic demanding games, i heard that my video card can not run eq2 at all,
i have a nvidia geforce 4 mx420, i want to upgrade it along with more ram, but
i dont have much money to spend right now, but in 2 months i am getting a new computer top of the line, so anyone got any ideas what kind of video card i can get for around 100$ cdn
    that can run eq2 good?

also, i may get all 3, guild wars, city of heroes, and eq2, or maybe just coh and eq2, not sure..
