Ok i joined this 5th beta event.
Started a High Elf Rogue and picked as souls (or talent trees if u want to call them) Ranger at start ,and Bladedancer as i started gaining lvls.
Ill do a str8forward compare with wow concerning the things i noticed since most ppl even for a small ammount of time saw wow on a friend 's pc or played it themselfs. Mind that i personally played 5 years in wow Hunter ,warrior and rogue up to lvl 85(cataclysm).Keep also in mind i m an expirienced mmorpg gamer played also Aoc DDO, Lotro ,Shadowbane and tried many others too.
GRAPHS: Graficks are better than wow . They somehow remind me a mix of ddo lotro and aoc quality concerning mobs and player characters.. A bit worst than Aoc 's characters but they are good allright.Concerning areas,objects ,trees they are doing their job well concerning game's specific style and adding to the atmosphere.
CLASSES: Way better than wow at least for my flavour. Being 5 years a hunte rin wow all i see in wow nowdays are hunters all they do is pew pew,laying traps, and jump backwards to avoid close encounters with enemy meliers roogus warriors dk's retris etc... N O M OR E :] ... My second talent tree is blade dancer and i divide my talents equally as ranger and blademaster. You see the mechanics on Rift's hunter is gaining combo points and if suposely a mellier jumps on me i do same dmg as mellee as i do ranged. Whether i shoot from distance or i engage in mellee i do same thing. Gather combo points and unleash finishing moves with bow and/or my melee weapons. Did i mention i have a pet like wow hunters? At start u are getting a boar . im not quite sure how the poet things work concerning taming other pets as u lvl or if u just use prefixed pets. The ESSENCE here though is that IN COMBAT i dont have to run if a mllier jumps to me.. I can fight back..SO more options for me concerning combat choises and options. Conclusion Rift's hunters pawns wow's hunters.
ANIMATIONS: For some reason while they seem decent animations whether u r strafing or turning and run around they somehow feel bad.Dont know why . Reminds me abit of aoc and lotro. Combat moves are ok. I saw next to me a tall human guy figthing with his 2 handed sword and opticaly the animations on his combat moves seemed great. I have a small objection on combat speed of auto-attacks here. I think they should slow them a bit down. I was attacking with dual wield daggers ,using also special attacks beetween them and pet dmg as well i couldnt see the numbers. Whoever likes fast combats wont have a problem but me personally? Im in favour of slower and more tactical combat style..Like it happens on oblivion ..u study your ooponents and u carefully land blows..but..thats just me...
COMBAT:Here we have a problem. One of the main reasons i quitted aoc was that i found myslef driven by the combat system to spam combos as fast possible and due to the game mechanics there was no big difeerence on whoch attacks and combos u used,as long as u spammed them fast.. And that was making combat boring and repeatable.Something similar happens here concernin g low lvls at least. Im not sure what happens in high lvls at rift but i hope that the tactical factor and players choises concerning which skill that deals dmg u choose has a meaning and a point. And im not talking about cc's and stuns etc etc .I had 6 skills to use which all they did is just dmg. No debuffs or something just dmg which means since they dont have any cooldowns there is no diference if u use a skill or b skill cause u can spam either of those 2 with same result. All that diferred was that those 2 skills had same name. I also had 1 bleeding attack with bow that requires 2 secs casting and ofc the ranged finishing move and the melee finishing move. I certainly hope that the DEVS take good care of the combat system and evove/correct it properly where ppl see there is a problem.
Usufull Notes:One intresting thing is that while the 1st hour u spend on a game is crutial ,i mean by that , that after playing 5 years wow i feel truly so bored by even kill 4 pigs with 2hit points,and doing quests is so friking boring for me in wow, i found my self completing one quest in rift after another without being bored and killing mobs wasnt as boring proceedure as wow. Maybe it s the fact that my dual class character shooting arrows and melleeing wherever i wanted broke the monotny.
For example i quited vangaurd after 45 mins of playing it, i quitted eq2 after playing it 30 mins only because the combat remind me of wow only worst and killign few npc's was so boring.No offence to vangaurd or eq 2 fans they have some elements as games like housing, crafting and other stuff that blizzard does not even dare to implement ,so they wont distract wow community from their braindead zombie activities watching trade channel carefully admire their mounts or bulldog companions,leeching honor in av,farming rep with quest while watching manipulating news on tv etc etc...
Conclusion: So..is Rift IT? i dont know..Ot seems rift's devs have alot of work..things to improve things to take care off.Mostly concernign combat and animations in my opinion. Classes mix with souls needs a thought. My advise is to learn from wow's mistakes and instead of player's options about their own class to be narrow..EXTEND them..Give polayers freedom about the class affairs..Its one of the strong and addictive elemnts in his game and a hell of a selling point for Rift.

Alot there to read but I saw that you were complaining about the lack of buffs that you could cast. You get a choice of 3 souls from I beleive 9 "classes". One of them should have a support class type skill.
But I do agree with you about the spam button aspect of combat, especially melee.

still do not get the big deal about this game when a whole new genre with TOR coming out to look forward too
Im guessing the big deal with this game is that there will be much life on world with ppl and parties roaming around rifts and world map and lot of random conflicts will occure.
Did you get a chance at beta?
SW:TOR is probably 6 months away in any case. Besides, if Cataclysm is any indication, TOR will be a monorail quest train with a chat wheel, sort of like a Dragon Age with a chat channel. Great as a single player game, as an MMO though ... remains to be seen.
I like Rift so far, yes it is an MMoRPG that is very heavily influenced by the EQ, AO, DAoC, WoW style of the genre but thats just fine, that is exactly the style of MMoRPG I enjoy, so if your looking for something completely different its not here, personally I am not sure you need to be looking at MMoRPGs at all, but thats up to you...
On a side note I completely expect SWTOR to basically follow this same style of MMoRPG with a little more emphasis on story, so dont get your hopes up that that game will be something entirely different.

Did you have to keep logging in over and over or can you just keep hitting ok to refresh the screen(not a troll pls need help here
