Ohhhhh this has got me giddy like a little school girl, i really loved those old dog fight days in old PS, nothing quite like 2-3 full gals dropping on a hot zone and turning the tide! Can't wait to start flying again, will have to shell out for a new joystick

It looks like they are going for a more modern look to the game than a futuristic, maybe they are changing the timeline or something..

I don't know. Looks pretty futuristic to me. Not enough wing to fly like a normal plane. No visible rotors to fly like a 'copter. = sci-fi or along the lines of stealth fighters/bombers that replace normal aerodynamics with computer fly-by-wire stability system.

After looking at it a second time, has anybody else noticed a striking resemblence of this rendering to some of the aircraft from the movie "Avatar"? o.O... Not that I mind, I would love to get behind the flight stick of some of those from the movie, especially that cargo plane, I love troop transporting :P.

You do realise that that very closely resembles the original galaxy from Planetside which launched in 2003 / 2004? So any idea that SOE has copied Avatar is beyond absurd. If anything you should say avatar copied planetside.
I'm no idiot, I have played planetside since it's release (Still do). I was simply making a comment regarding the "New render" not the old galaxy, which looks very klunky and more heavy. This looks very sleek and fast, and the coloring / cockpit / landing gear look to be inspired from the movie. Sorry for making a simple observation mister grumpy pants.

I'l have to keep an eye on this. I miss the old days of working as a transport expert in the outfit i was in. Not to many did that and a good transport pilot was always a good thing to have.

Actually comparing it to the old Galaxy...
It has the same bulging bottom side, the vents are set in the same location, and the bubble cockpit is still intact.
Everything about the original Galaxy's form is still there. The differences comes from the swept lines that now come off the vents, across the hull, and the scoop on the front side of the ship where it used to be domed. Anything less 'chunky' between the two seems less aesthetics, more polygon count.
Also, didn't the original Galaxy have landing skis that popped down? Those worked fine given all the ships took off vertically, Kinda why helicopters largely use skis too (Save for the likes of the chinook, though it puts/gets hauled about the ground at times). Is the ship supposed to be off at a rolling start now or did they change to landing gears for visual giggles?

You're right, poly's do play a role with the chunk look. And yes the original has 3 ski like landing gears that pull out when you get close to the ground. But the fact it's wheels is odd, which granted, makes it feel a bit more realistic. However like you said, brings into question whether we will deal with aerospace or hover like controls now. I wouldn't mind actual "Flying" compared to hovering, it would prevent some of the old annoyances of Reaver and Mossie's farming infantry.

The new galaxy looks great but the new vanny looks too much like a real modern-day tank.
