Two Worlds II: It's out now

just2duhjust2duh Member Posts: 1,290

It's Jan.25th release snuck passed me after being delayed in Septemeber, and with nothing else of interest atm i'm pretty excited to give the series another shot.

The first one had it's fair share of problems.. it was one of few RPG's I could not bring myself to finish, but after reading up on the sequel some more, looking at screens, and watching a few vids floating around, I have to admit I hyped myself up.

What did that the most for me was reading a hands-on preview on IGN from way back in July (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1104572p1.html), more importantly the section on how the story plays out.

"Reality Pump is hoping to not only make the decisions you make feel important, but to give different experiences entirely depending upon how you act. Some story elements will only unfold to players that make specific decisions."

The things they mention in that section paints a picture resembling an open world Dragon Age+Mass Effect to me, that is probably an exaderation on the epic scale, but something even close to a marriage of those games would be nothing short of enjoyable.

Going to pick it up later today, if my local Gamestop has it in stock yet that is.. I swear they make me feel like i'm in the farthest corner of hell sometimes lol.

You do know it's delayed until Feb 8th due to TopWare being the U.S. publisher, right?

By the way, it's a great game, much better than the first one. Although controlling horses is still a pain in the ass.

WAH?! I was in another thread on G4 and they said they bought it yesterday, it's even listed as released on G4.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that TopWare took over the EU publishing, and Reality Pump were overseeing the US release personally.

Either way, going to check at gamestop in a few hours, going to cross my fingers now though >.<"

Well, maybe they sorted it out then. That'll make a lot of pissed off U.S. players happy.

Yup, it was there :) I live in the far east coast of Canada, and if it's here then it should be everywhere lol.

As for how the game itself is i'm installing now, but that preview and video review seems to cover all the need to knows.

Live in the US, been playing the EU ver for months.  Its pretty good, and looks really nice if you can set the graphics to max.  Its a definite improvement on the first one, but there are still some issues that I won't go into.  Enjoy once you get it!

Did they improve anything over the EU version?

I too am a US player that enjoyed the EU version.

However I was a bit put off that the largest continent on the in game map, I explored maybe 15% of it at the very most before completing the game.  It seemed like a very optional landmass.

This is more or less what the first Two Worlds should have been.  It's an incredibly solid free-roam RPG in the vein of the Gothic series, but it appears to be made to appeal to more of a mainstream audience.  That said, it still falls short of the original vision for the series, and still doesn't compare to titles like Oblivion and Morrowind in terms of the ability to do whatever you wish to do within the confines of the gameworld.

At least I have been able to enjoy it without waiting for a year after release on custom player mods that truly unlock their potential.

Ever since Morrowind, then Oblivion and Fallout II plus New Vegas, they're all so very bland at launch, offering too few enemy types and easy to play through with minimal consequences it seems.  Plus their textures and character models are disgusting, but that isn't to say the stories were bad or working through the quests and just exploring.  I honestly don't know how anyone can enjoy these titles on console without mods!

Anyway, hopefully Skyrim will be great with its new engine, but all in all Two Worlds II has been fun!

Correct, sorry I forgot to mention that in my excitement ^^; Got it for PS3.

But with every other version out and on track with their latest release date, it would be a safe bet the PC version should be on time atleast and it's not that far away either :)

Havn't had much time to play with it tonight, only about 30min. It is leaps and bounds better than the first, most of that is shown in that video review posted earilier, pictures speak louder than words so no need going into details.

I kind of feel it would be a bigger success if it went under a different name though, seems nearly everyone is on the fence about it since the first bombed so hard to so many.

One down side i've seen within my short playtime is something mentioned in that hands-on preview, pop-in's. It is a larger problem than I like to see, hopefully something can be patched to improve the issue, but as is, it litterally happens everytime it switches to a dialog scene or "cinematic"(they still use the in-game engine for these it seems).

I suspect this is more of an issue for the console versions though, a PC should be able to process things much faster.

So, if anyone is in position to get either the Console or PC versions, I would recommend waiting it out until Feb.8th, because it seems this will still be a game best enjoyed on a PC like the orignal.

The largest continent is actually pretty small in the single player version as that map is used for the multiplayer section. Must admit was abit disappointed aswell before I knew it's the multiplayer continent mostly. Must also admit not have jumped into the multi player part yet.

Overall the game definitly improved but as some have said it still has some issue's, like one said horseriding can still be much improved, sometimes creature's will float in the air, I also have a feeling that Alchemy in 2W1 had more different type of potions I could make. But that's just a feeling. But I still enjoy the game very much.
