Lets hope they'll polish it out before the PS3 release.

yeah, ps3 release no longer has a date.
There is no knowledge that is no power.
let us hope it never does. ff14 is unworthy of the ps3, or my PC for that mattter. there is nothing they can do to make into the best mmo ever made.
how many people will really stay subscribed to FFXIV when Rift, TOR, GW2, Tera comes out.
FFXIV is already dry in population, once all the major titles have hit the street, where will that leave FFXIV's subscribers?

I was under the impression FFXIV currently does not have a sub fee for this very reason. From everything i've read it sounds like they have gone back into a development phase, with active players, until they can improve the game enough to be listed as a "top mmo."
From my estimation, it might be June or July before they are happy with their product. I mean, they did replace the entire development staff, and most importantly they are listening to their players. Just read the letter from the new director to see what I mean.
In all honesty, as soon as they change alot of the issues they said they are addressing, I will gladly resub to FFXIV.
But, with all that said, in its current state it is not worth playing.
If it isn't worth playing in a free state, then it means this game has some serious issues that could possibly destroy any chances it has in competing with games that are releasing before they can implement any meaningful fixes. Many of the upcoming games are releasing in Q2 of this year and you're slating any fixes for FFXIV for Q3. That does not bode well for SE.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Well, I said June or July before they are happy. Meaning, there are no major changes left to make. The director said they are about 30% done with a major slew of changes. Which, might bring it close to what most mmo's are at launch.
Probably the most serious issue is RIFT and GW2 seem to be VERY polished. Where as most mmos launch in an unfinished state. If 2011 is the year mmos finally start releasing in a finished state, then yes FFXIV will have a very hard climb.
The one thing FFXIV really has going for it, is that it is trying to follow up FFXI. If it can become more like FFXI, hitting its niche market, then it will be a much larger success. Where GW2 and RIFT seem to be going after the "WoW" players. Which IMO is the best market to go after because it is so large. Either way, I bought it at launch, and read up on the dev posts, and I am very excited in the direction it is going. It seems like they finally got a director that really cares about its subscribers opinion. And, is making the right decisions. I will definately be trying it out again once they make all the changes they are working on.
um... Rift might be going after WoW players. But GW2 is not.
Few things worth mentioning:
1. GW2 is B2P
2. The focus on the personal story. There is HUGE audiance who are all for single player games.

Only TERA is a serious competitor for SE and even then the FF name will make up for the gap in gameplay if needed.
Still, they can't stall forever. 6 months of development sounds alright, and PS3 might be 9 months away still.
WOW...only TERA?
FF has it's own playerbase. Those are people willing to give it a 2nd chance when ps3 version will be released and propably no other western game will steal those people from SE. If they manage to make this game fun they will get players, maybe not millions but enough to make some money.
Yep.. as much as people talk about doom & gloom the only thing that can kill the game at this point is the developer's inability to fix it in time.
First off, I don't know what B2P is. (Sorry, Buy 2 play maybe?)
Secondly, I realize that it has a large focus on personal story. But, generally (haven't played it) from what I have seen it "feels" like WoW. Now, don't get me wrong, I currently play WoW. Alot of things about WoW should be copied. And, I do like the GW2 artstyle alot better. But, from what I have seen it does seem like they are trying to make it famliar to WoW players.
Now, when I say it is "similar" to WoW that doesn't mean it is WoW or a WoW clone. I just mean someone that has only played WoW will be able to pick it up and play without ANY issues. Now, IMO that feel is becoming the standard in mmos. Because honestly no one wants to learn completely new controls for every game. This is not an insult, just what i've gathered from videos.
And you better believe arena net wold LOVE to steal 2 or 3 mil WoW players. To not target that market is just plain stupid.
I'm sorry but how does it remind you of wow?, the combat is totally different ( and I mean totally), the world is totally different, the quests work totally different and I can imagine the crafting will be nothing like wow's either.
How does it remind you of wow?

Jeff Strain (One of the founders of Anet and formerly a higher up of blizzard) says differently.
So they are patching 14 still? Are they actually "fixing" things that people hate? Which I'm not entirely sure what that is. But is it becoming "playable"?
They're are making the game so it's familiar to WoW players. In one of the vidoes they discussed why they had to put NPC w/ marks above their head. They're not making GW2 to be similar to WoW, but familiar to WoW players.
And please point me the similarties you speak of between GW2 and WoW.

Well, overhauls are planned.
<-- huge FF fan, but I skipped this due to such XtremE! hate from those that played. I guess I'm glad I passed. But I still am interested. I hope they apply these "overhauls"
Well, that was a good decision for the time being.
Great read, thanks for linking. I really appreciate when developers come out and talk about there experience with games/progress on their current games. One reason I have hopes for the future of FFXIV. Thats a speech I would have liked to hear live.
And let me rephrase my standpoint. I wasn't really saying the gameplay was like wow. But the ui/feel was like wow. Which is a GOOD thing. Quest markers, similar keybindings. All of those are good things. The less you have to reteach your player the better. When I say feel I do not mean the graphics/models or even the gameplay. I LOVE the cuts away to cutscenes. And the dark artstyle.
Anyways, prob not even the right thread to be discussing GW2 and WoW. Since it is a FFXIV thread lol
