While this is aimed and kids, it's still going to attract many older gamers. That said, do you think they should have a mature server, or servers suited for certain ages? Like a 6-12 year old server, locked by age of the players based on account information, a 13-17 server and an 18+ server? It seems to make sense as this game will attract all ages, so it'd only be right if people could play on a server with people their own age. It'd also be good for keeping people like internet predators away from younger kids who play.

No, I don't think they or any other game should have servers based on whatever you think is 'mature'.
How would you enforce this maturity rule? Require birth certificates for either server type? Require that a person leave a server with their avatars, and their friends, because they had a birthday?
well it was made for children so i don't see why this is needed.
Okay, bad idea.
I'm free on Friday.
Because i don't want any pervert dirtbags to play and chat with my children.......
There should be age based servers for this game, not to free the grown ups from the kiddo's, but to protect our kids from those dirt bags.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
This is a very good idea which they should do. Perhaps make it so you need a valid 18+ ID to play on an adult server. Like the parental controls.

Ok so you guys want to protect your kids. That's great. Also think about this:
I'm an adult gamer who's been playing mmo's for about 6 years now. I love to build things so this game draws me in. Well I also like to work with people and build guilds that use voice chat...see where I'm going? I'm not a predator obviously but nonetheless if there isn't a safety in place some parents are going to fly off the handle that their kid is being asked to join a guild or even a quest group.
I've seen this happen before, I try to get someone to help me with a quest and above there head it starts to say "this is my child and I don't allow him to talk to other players". Can you even imagine how frustrating that is?
I for one will NEVER pay for a subscription to a game that makes me play with children. Not because I have anything against them, but because I know the risks and the problems. Now I know this is AIMED AT KIDS, I got that. But the company is going to lose a wide player base and a good deal of SUBSCRIBERS if they don't put in some kind of help for adults.
And I hope they don't go stupid with the filters like Runescape or Wizard101. I'll write bad reviews for a week solid on every gaming website I can find.
yep, there should definitely be a "less restricted" server, where everyone can play without concern... you don't really need to define ages, just put a warning...
LEGO Corp pays attention to two market groups: kids, and their parents. I very seriously doubt that they're going to try catering to grownup MMORPG players. I also very seriously doubt that they should.
Paying attention to what kids and their parents want has made LEGO one of the most incredibly successful toy and game companies in the world. This online game of theirs is a drop in the bucket as far as their corporate power is concerned.
I suspect they're going to find out what kids 8-14 want out of this game, and crank that up to 11. If that pushes all the 30+ gamer guys out of the game... they'll just replace us with thirtysomething parents playing with their preteen kids, in a safe online environment.
We gamers are a niche market. And they know it. They are totally mainstream and making money hand over fist.
I don't know if they will make age restricted servers or not but I think it would be a good idea. I am 40 and the gameplay based on what I have read is very intriguing. I know I can't be the only adult that sees the appeal of building and creating stuff.
I don't know...maybe I won't be able to really get into it because it is legos. But I played the Star Wars lego game and I thought it was pretty cool. Also, humor goes a long way.
Hi, There are no current plans for an Adult server. There are many adult LEGO fans who enjoy the game and one route you can use is to create what is called Best friends. This is made to allow parents of 2 kids that know each other outside the virtual world to connect and have "free" chat between them. You have to Validate your LEGO ID first though (IE it checks your adult status using your SSN or driver licence).
Downloading it now, haven't started playing yet. Don't know if you can make guilds or not, but if you can you could have a 20+ guild. I know I would look for something like that.
rofl, have fun implementing that, theres a reason why theres no good age verification, it doesnt work, anything you do that has the slight possibility of working is just gonna get bypassed anyway.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
this game has the most hardcore chat filter ive ever bashed my head into, you cant even try to be helpfull alot of the time due to being unable to say most words longer then 5 letters long, anything numerical is blocked, in 1234567890 form and tryped out numbers form, forgot to try roman numerals. cant say words like killed or died or death, about all you can do is say hello/i need help/want to be friends/lets team up and kill that big mean dragon even web links and such are all blocked, im sure the hello kitty online preds or 4 chan could find a way eventually to say something innapropriate to a kid in the game, but theyll need alot of computers running alot of algorythms and alot of luck to find anything the filter will let fly.
the games great fun, no reason a parent wouldnt enjoy playing with their kid, let the kid play, have a blast watching and helping when they hit one of the harder puzzles. honestly your kid shouldnt be alone with a pc connected to the internet ever, takes less then 2 seconds to find and click links to permanently brain scarring awfull 4chan porn!
Yes no "check" is 100% perfect and kids will get around it just like how weirdos will get around restrictions.
If you ahve two types of servers you reduce the chance IMO of having these things happening.
Alot of people like legos and the game has a lot of potential, can you image have a guild and being able to have "guild cities" were you and your guild build things?
Also what is an MMO if you cannot properly interact with people?
Different game developers. The Traveller Tales Lego games are fabulous. Awesome. Some of the best games ever released to appeal to both kids and adults.
Netdevil makes Lego Universe and they apparently took their idea from Lego Island. Which is over 10 years old, marketed to 7 year olds and outdated. Can't even compare these two developers. TT put the bar up for Lego games and Netdevil doesn't seem to even want to try to reach it.
