Anybody that is reading these types of threads should take them with a MASSIVE grain of salt. I don't know if people here are just trolling the game or what but it's a completely different atmosphere then what you get in-game. People in-game are having a blast, and are enjoying what this game offers. The first day everyone was talking about other MMO's and WoW, but now people are actually into the game and happy that the beta was extended so they could play more. I'm also enjoying the game, the higher I level up, the better my character plays and feels. The game sort of grows on you, if you don't give it a chance or even pass the tutorials then your just shooting yourself in the foot. I admit, I got into Beta 1 of Rift and I practically spent 10 minutes playing the game and thought "this game sucks, it runs like crap" and then uninstalled it. I came back, and gave it a second chance in Beta 5 and spent much more time with it, I'm glad I did.

AoC hasn't improved.   Wanna know how I know, because you can still swim up waterfalls.  LOL!   Seiges are still a joke.    Class skills are still broken and they can't seem to balance classes no matter how many times they rewrite them.   AoC is still just as linear and closed off as ever.  The new zones are just a bit bigger is all.  On top of that the end game has become a boring and tedious grind.

I have to say that I find it odd how different people react to playing the rift beta even taking into consideration how different people are who like mmorpgs (some liking PvE, others PvP, some crafting, some grinding factor reputation etc).

When it comes to myself I find it hard to enjoy any of the current mmorpgs when my head is full information and speculation of how GW2 might turn out. I had the same thing happen when waiting for AoC: all those nice promises of a new type of mmorpg made all the old ones seem so repetative and old.

If others are like me then I can understand how reading about GW2 raises the expectations of what any new mmorpg should bring. Going from reading the gw2guru forums to trying out rift beta is painful, the same thing might happen when gw2 releases, I surely hope not.

The Game is the Soul system and the Rifts so I guess its all fine with you.

You guess wrong. The Soul system is just a neat way to combine and change skills, the rifts just public quests, far from "the game". Those two features are not enough to make it worth while.

DCU and AOC both look better imo and those are my two main MMOs.. They are also a lot more fun than rift. I find the Rift combat unbearbly slow and it just feels clunky. I mean even darkfall and fallen earth are more fun than Rift.. and they look like they came out in the late 90s. lol

youve got some straaaaange opinions lol I life fallen earth and all, but it AND darkfall are about as clunky as you can get in the combat department....

oh and saying DCU looks BETTER than rift?? time for a new prescription there....

Yes DCU looks better than rift. lol Rift just looks like EQ2 on ultra settings with a pretty sky. And yes I admit FE and DF are clunky, but they are more fun than Rift. Which is what i was saying above. Never said they weren't clunky, just more fun.

I think your opinion boils down to your sole preference, I have a few friends who bought DCUO one on pc and one on PS3 and I played a buddy trial, all three of us agree the visuals are not comparable to rift due to genre differences and simple quality, technicaly rifts engine is far more complex than DCUO (due to it NOT havign to run on PS3), the character models alone are far more detailed. I suppose I could put it this way, If I wanted to play a game that looked as though it was drawn in pen and ink id play DCUO, if I wanted to play a game with more realistic looking visuals, id play Rift. also forgot to mention, if I wanted to play a game where I could get to max lvl in 3 days id play DCUO....terrible leveling curve.

as to rift looking like EQ2? I dont see that at all, EQ2 engine was and is awful, the character models feel like lego charactersm make out of various pieces haphazardly stuck together, awful awful. and the world....oye EQ2 falls way short there as well.

Im not certain im even going to sub to rift yet after the 30 days, but I know 100% for certain this is the best MMO launch ive seen in the last few years for SURE.

only way to find out is to play the rift beta dude, its wicked easy to get in, not sure if there will be any more beta events thou. On GW thou, GW1 left a really bad taste in my mouth so im ultra wary of it.

Trion impressed me at all the shows.  But the beta is lacking.   It's a cookie cutter mmo base with a different skill system...  Nothing revolutionary there.   Fallen Earth has one of the best crafting systems in any mmo TO DATE.  WoW will never die due to its huge fanbase.    Rfit will become another Aion, or AoC, or WAR....  just totally flop and have to change the game around it to make it work.

Would I play Rift if it was f2p?   Yes.    Is it worth 15$ a month?  No.    I'm subbed to WoW and fallen earth.    This game hasnt one upped either of these games.   Combat?   Fallen earths fps element makes it amazing for PvP.   WoW is famous for its raiding.   Rift is famous for its glamours shows,  amazing CGI,  but nothing else.

When are people going to learn to just ignore devs, and play the game themselves? I think when people read interviews with developers, they fantasize about what they think the devs mean by this or that, and then when they play the game they're disappointed.

Not saying the developers didn't saying the game was going to be something it's not. Just saying that I don't read interviews by developers. I play the damn game, and if I like it, I continue playing.  If not, then I stop playing.

Peronsally, I like the WoW type combat system. Combined with the robust soul system, the game is a blast. Someone is finally doing what Blizzard is doing - taking a good idea (not their own, mind you) and improving on parts to create a greater game. Haters will hate, but the lovers will love. So be it.

You are dead wrong. Poorly produced? lol. You don't have a clue mate. This game is very good and fun.

good luck waiting on GW2 an Tera, like Q4 2011 at best.

Mate... Actually play the Beta for a decent amount of time, finish the tutorial, go do some real stuff like breaking down materials and closing some Rifts. Then, when you've done that, come back and write up a real review.

Rift is a really good game, the only thing I have against it (And this is a small thing) is that it is a bit too much like WoW.

There's a lot to like but I admit as excited as I was in the past I am not nearly so as I once was after being in all betas.  I hope it does well for those that like it.(I know what it's like being a fan of a game that isn't well thought of)  I am a bit irritated with the devs for being SO by the book.  It's really dissapointing and I didn't have huge expectations to begin with.  It really is too much like WoW.  Now I havn't seen everything maybe the real fun comes later?  Anyways right now I'm holding judgement and I'll stick with my current game.

A poor attempt at baiting. Hope it doesn't get out of hand.

If you actually did try the game and made your decision that it wasn't for you after playing for more than an hour, I'm sorry the game is not for you. Hope you find what you're looking for in TERA and Guild Wars 2.

I've been invited to all of the betas. I played the first two every day. The Third one is where I started slowing down. I logged in only once during the fourth, and haven't touched it at all during the fifth.

The idea behind the 'souls' is good but in reality it's just a reskinned talent tree. The class system in Dragon Age Origins is better, in my opinion.

The graphics are beautiful and the lore is decent, but I hated the rifts and invasions and that's a BIG part of the game and something that many love. I, quite simply, don't.

Therefore I, unknowingly until now, determined by the 4th beta that this game just isn't for me. Does that make it a bad game, no, it just makes it a game that I don't care as much for after having played it religiously for two-three betas.

I played it till level 20 at first beta event.I was pushing myself to play it to the level cap hoping that i might like it at the end.It was a huge dissapointment.I logged back again at beta event 5 resumed from lvl 20 and i just closed the game after a few minutes.

Not to mention that this game made me resub to wow, that i havent been playing for 2 years.

Oh.....and I agree with your first sentence enough that I didn't even bother with this most recent beta event. Played in all the others and finally just said eff it.  But.....to each their own.  If we were all alike the world would be very boring, so I'm actually glad some people like RIFT.  It proves we're not all the same.  YAY FOR DIVERSITY!

I like Rift, but it's nothing special. If it weren't for the fact that I'm bored of WoW atm, I wouldn't bother playing it. There's nothing Rift does that WoW doesn't, and in most cases WoW does it better. The Rifts are either huge zergs, or I'm the only guy there with no hopes of closing it because the last spawn is an elite with 9k HP (yet the Rift is labeled as minor)

The large scale invasions with bosses that require a huge effort to kill are fun, and that is certainly one thing that is unique to Rift.

The class system is overwrought and a mess in my opinon. There's 368 soul combinations. That doesn't factor in individual talent choices within those 368 combinations. Some of those combinations have no synergy at all, some of them are redundant because of identical abilities, and none of it is going to matter when theorycrafters tells the community that "X" combo is the highest DPS, HPS, best tank etc. Those issues aside, Trion developers are masochists. Class-based MMO's have proven difficult to balance in the past, and what does Trion do? Make a game with 368 combinations to balance.

Overall, I think Rift is in great shape for beta, and is ready for live service, but I just don't see what all the hype is about. It's new and well polished, but in the end it's WoW/Warhammer with a new coat of paint.

  • MothanosMothanos Member UncommonPosts: 1,910

Rift is just number 14 in the dozen of mmo's who just failed to stand out and beat the crap out of the competition.

it has a crap engine like warhammer, your in denail if you disagree with that.

People bash wow into the ground, but just make a trial account and do some pvp at level 10, just expirience the smoothness of walking and using spells.

Guildwars almost hs the same smoothness of playing, dunno how to explain it, its just the whole move and fight system of those 2 mmo's that are unequaled.

Warhammer AIon Rift dont extend and improve the genre, they take a step backwards....

Even on high settings with a beast of an computer it offers a nice glow and effects, but the gameplay just sucks major a$$.

Sorry if i sound like spoiled angry old man, but damn people its been for 6 years that wow is king of the hill, and i want some1 to kick Blizzards buts...and so far only GW2 might live up to that criteria.

Although this seems like a trolling thread, I'm gonna try to get my thoughts on Rift as I've experienced so far.

Honestly, it's nothing new. There. I said it. Rift is just another usual fantasy MMORPG. If you like the lore, the story, the races, what have you, cool, that's good on you, but its not going to be the next biggest seller, because it won't stick out.

And one of my personal pet peeves with this game is, is how they sold this "new original" world of theirs, yet to me, it looks like they just took traditional fantasy elements and put a twist to them. Not even really a cool twist, it feels like they did a few things just so it won't be like the other MMORPG next to it. It seems like lazy, and very misleading to me.

I think all of these developers need to stop trying to make an original or unique world, and make a good world for players to experience.

    Groovy.

  • XthosXthos Member UncommonPosts: 2,740

People are more upset with newer games and style, not Rift....They were looking for it to be something that Rift never said it was gonna be....

I prefer more sandbox in my mmo that Rift has, but no game since I left VG like 1.5+ years ago, and the endless wait for 'the game', I am probably playing Rift....'the game' may never come again.  Gonna look at the Earthrise beta too, but it seems it will be a work in progress for a while.

Hope you guys wait goes better than mine, but I don't feel like being gameless for another 1-1.5 years again or more...Never played WoW, besides beta, so no crappy game that I hate, but can't get away from either, as many seem to post.

Rift is OK, our guild is in the beta and we are going to give it a try.  For the most part, we are looking to forward to playing together again as this will be our first MMO since we left Vanguard last year.  It's nice to play a game that has a ton of money and developer support behind it.  But on the other hand, it doesn't hold a candle to Vanguard and feels like it's on rails and is very simple in comparison.

The community is a whole in Rift has been very disappointing.  Some great folks of course, but way to many immature players spewing their idiocy into genernal chat and the forums.

The game still IS in beta, and while it is very polished and virtually bug-free I'm hoping that can make some improvements to bring a little more depth and complexity to the game.  For example, the quest are incredibly bland and just don't leave you with the desire to log back in.  Combat is also pretty dull.

  • LauZaIMLauZaIM Member Posts: 46

Ok so, the general consensus here is that the reason people aren't going to play it is because it doesn't bring anything new to the table that WoW doesn't already have. I can live with that. But, if someone doesn't want to play with cartoon graphics, the same old lore, the same type of quests reworded, and would like dynamic events and a better class system, why not play Rift instead of WoW? Why does one have to fail because it follows the same design as other games in its genre that are successful? Why was both BC2 and Black Ops allowed to succeed? They are basically the same thing..
